The OFFICIAL 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread (1 Viewer)

Beckett with a no hit first inning.

The overshift hurts them as Ortiz advances the runners on a chopper back to Pedro. Manny then walks to load them and Trot with a warning track out to make it 1st and 3rd with 2 outs.

Vtek with an RBI single and it's 2-0.

Helluva game last night.. this team is ON FIRE.... scoring about 8 runs a game over this streak. Playing airtight defense and getting quality start after quality start from their staff. I gotta say it's looking good.

Then again, this is the JV East mostly at home.... the Yanks are struggling a bit with them but they're beat up. Boston is absolutely steamrolling through Interleague play however.

Tonight the Sox are going for 12 straight as Schilling faces Glavine. This is one hell of a matchup and will be carried on ESPN for all to see. I believe Glavine leads the career series 12-2 or something lopsided like that. Then again, Schilling typically didn't have this Boston offense/defense behind him.

HEre's to hoping the Sox don't let up and finish this off...

To all you Red Sox (and Yankees) fans - please stop stuffing the mlb all-star balloting with your has-been players. Varitek at catcher?!! With his healthy .256 average. Ever heard of Joe Mauer? - I guess .392 isn't what it used to be. Not to mention Jim Thome (only a write-in, guess I can't blame you clowns for that, he's just a DH - oh wait what about Big Slapi? Nevermind). Only a short time left, better get those votes in so that Vlad Guerrero doesn't get that 8th spot that a Red Sox or Yankees player obviously deserves. No Tigers, no White Sox? Guess the 2 top teams in the AL don't deserve reps. Konerko, Iguchi/Polanco, Crede, and Ordonez are all having better seasons than Giambi, Loretta, Lowell, and Damon at their respective positions, yet have less votes. Go figure

Alex Gonzalez is 4th in SS voting - he is garbage.

Go watch "Fever Pitch" again, whine about the next 86 years (or whatever - no one really cares), and go have the librarian help you use the community computah and hit up mlb.com 25 more times to vote for your lovable losers.

What a joke.

don't feed the trolls
He's right. Is Cano still leading the vote at 2B? He's the third best 2B in the AL East.
No ####.. but that doesn't change the fact that when you put the vote to the fans, about 90% of them view it as a popularity contest. It's just how it is.... something you've got to live with. Change the system or get off your ### and vote. It's just more fun to laugh at the guy though :D

It's always been a popularity contest. Can someone tell Lastings that the Green Monster, while Green, isn't really a monster? TIA

Yeah, you are right. The Red Sox/Yankees fans stuff the ballot box. :lmao: Papelbon, Ortiz, Ramirez deserve to be all-stars. Schilling/Beckett doesn't.

I don't see that many Sox games, but has anyone been more owned by the Green Monster than Milledge has. Or is it a common thing?

Mets have been embarrassed so far. They need a big win here today.

One helluva game. Great pitchers duel early.

Youk once again comes up big in a key spot.. Coco gets the game ball for manufacturing that tying run (bunt single, steal second, sac to 3rd, sac home) and the catch.

Schilling seems to be settling in nicely.. we'll see what happens when we start seeing some real opposition again. Mets have a great core but just can't get it together... they played like Fenway scared the #### out of them.

Sox are steamrolling but it's a bit early to call them the class of MLB. Right now? Yeah... but we've always been streaky... summer doldrums hit and we'll have a cold july or august.... count on that.

Hoping lester can really step in and hold down his spot in the rotation.. someone is going to need to step up as a viable #4 if we're going to make a serious run. ALso, bullpen needs a bit of depth. MDC and Hansen need to iron out some stuff... Tavarez is hit or miss and Seanez is junk. Papelbon.. well, he's still papelbon for now.

12 and counting... Now we head south... Marlins and the pesky ### DRays.. sweeping either of these guys on the road will be tough... simply not gonna happen in TB.

i'd be stoked if we merely win both series. i think the mets will play the yankees tough. hopefully by the end of next week the 4 game lead is still intact.

Yep, Sox are the class of MLB. Period.

Helluva catch by Crisp. Simply incredible.
Yeah the White Sox are tough.....
:goodposting: This series should show Mets fans how far away this team really is. They played timid throughout. Willie should've known better.

Bump for tonights game, bought my tickets 2.5 months ago, first Red Sox game I'll be attending in 4 years. Missed seeing Schilling vs. Dontrelle by one night.

Tonight's game: Marlins vs. Red Sox (Dolphin Stadium)

Scouting Dontrelle Willis

Willis has completed seven or more innings in five consecutive starts and seven of nine. Over his past eight outings, he has lowered his ERA by 2.17 runs. ... Willis has struggled at Dolphin Stadium, losing four of five decisions with a 7.83 ERA and .358 opponents' batting average. ... In winning three of five June starts, Willis has a 2.50 ERA, eight walks and 20 strikeouts in 392/3 innings.

Scouting Jason Johnson

Johnson is making his Red Sox debut after opening the season with the Indians. He was designated for assignment after 14 starts, during which he walked 22 and struck out 32 in 77 innings. Opponents are hitting .341 off him, including .403 (56 for 139) by left-handers. ... Johnson has lost all four of his June starts with a 6.35 ERA.

Marlins short hops

The bullpen allowed at least one run in every game during the Devil Rays series, but its collective ERA rose just .02 to 4.05. A Marlins reliever has not been charged with a loss since May 20. ... INF Alfredo Amezaga made his 17th consecutive start Wednesday and went 0 for 4. He is hitless in 17 consecutive at-bats, during which his average has dropped 42 points to .248.

Red Sox short hops

The Red Sox have won 11 of the 18 all-time meetings, including four of six at Dolphin Stadium. This is their first South Florida visit since 2000, when they won two of three. ... The Red Sox took a club-record 15-game errorless streak into Thursday's series finale against the Mets. The Red Sox are the only team that hasn't lost to a rookie starter this season.
Here's :banned: to hoping everyone enjoys tonights game as much as I will.

Defense

65 errors 2003 Mariners

67 errors 1981 Tigers

68 errors 1999 Mets

68 errors 1981 Orioles

The Red Sox have 23 so far in 76 games, which puts them on pace for 49.

WOW.... The Sox look Good  :hot:

Like I tell my Met fan friends...

At this point you either win it all... OR the season ends miserably.

papelbon :moneybag:

errorless streak broken with Ortiz and YoUk commiting errors
Streak was broken Saturday in the first by Mirabelli.Nice run going here. Exactly what good teams do: beat up on the bad and play the other good teams even.

Just wanted to acknowledge the great play by the rays. Haven't had a chance to watch any of these games due to chaos after work lately, however I gotta say folks continue to underestimate the Rays. Sox really needed to take at least 1 game out from under the rays to finish the short road trip at .500. No such luck.

Let's hope to come out strong in the 2nd half...
