The OFFICIAL 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread (1 Viewer)

Why is there seven pages of this?

We're not even 40 games in. There's nothing to discuss. We know nothing about these teams yet. Give it a month and a half or two months. Then we can start figuring things out. What are we, 30 games in? Its impossible to tell what is a hot/cold streak vs what is a genuine season-long trend.

C'mon like 12 people like the Indians. This thread is never posted in following a Sawx loss.

from rotoworld:

Red Sox optioned RHP Manny Delcarmen to Triple-A Pawtucket.David Riske isn't quite ready to return, so maybe the Red Sox have decided they want lefty specialist Mike Holtz on the roster for the series against the Yankees. Riske could then take Holtz's spot this weekend.
from SoSH:
Holtz would be a sound choice.Holtz last pitched on May 3 against Syracuse. He allowed two runners inherited from Craig Hansen to score but struck out 6 of the 10 batters he faced.**Syracuse Bottom 8th (one out)Chad Mottola doubles on a ground ball to LF (Hansen's two runners score).John-Ford Griffin called out on strikes.Jason Phillips called out on strikes.Syracuse Bottom 9thRob Cosby strikes out swinging.Mike Mahoney singles on a ground ball to LF.Sergio Santos called out on strikes.Luis Figueroa grounds out 4-3Syracuse Bottom 10thRyan Roberts called out on strikes.Kevin Barker flies out to CF.Chad Mottola strikes out swinging.Griffin and Barker are LHH, Figueroa is a switch-hitter, all other batters were RHH.

Good call.. we should wait till the season is over before discussing the teams. God forbid some of us enjoy talking about our team between games. As was said earlier... feel free to move along.

So now we have one yankee fan, and one indians fan lurking around pathetically in a thread they keep talking trash about. :lmao:

Oh and they post on off days.

So to recap:

New Postings: Days of wins, off days.

No Postings: Following Red Sox losses.

Intriguing... Sox could certainly use another Lefty.
After an excellent ST, he's doing great in AAA, an ERA of 1.69, a WHIP of 0.81 and 24 K, 5 BB and 2 HR in 16 IP. Plus he's a leftie. He's someone who should be given consideration if Tavarez/Seanez/Riske don't pan out.

]Didn't see a thread on this kid... at 25yo, this is the year I think the really starts to emerge into something special. The Red Sox have him in the pullpen due to a lack of rotation slot, but I think he'll have one by midseason....as soon as Hansen is ready in AAA or Foulke gets his #### together (not holding my breath).

For those who've not seen this kid pitch... make an effort to. He's one of the top emerging arms in the game (in my homer opinion).... he's earned the nickname "the animal" for his high-intensity antics on the mound and for the fact that he's just not afraid of anyone up there.

So far this year: 2 appearances.. both 1-2-3 innings. 3Ks.

Last night was interesting because he earned his first save.. Tito went with him in the Bot. 9th with the Sox holding a precarious 1 run lead. Absolute nails.
From the first post in the thread  Papelbon now 13 for 13 in save chances with a sub 0.50 era. He pitches 2.1 hitless/runless innings in Yankee stadium and notches a 4 out save to seal the 2nd win.

God I have such a man-crush on this guy it's scary.

Eventually he WILL give up a few runs, but damn if this ride ain't nice.

:lmao:  :pickle: @ Matsui. I guess we can put aside that debate about Japanese league games counting towards the consecutive game streak.

Also, Bernie Williams needs to retire. Effective immediately. The guy is just emabrassing himself out there at this point.

Re Matsui..... not cool. The guy is class act. While I like that the Yanks have to scramble a bit, I don't like that he's hurt. I don't wish that on any athelete. The guy is under the knife as we speak. :( Bernie got that double to start the 8th and nearly got a rally started....

:goodposting: This brought a tear to my eye.

Oh and Borat is not like you guys. I pegged him and that coward right.

As long as it's not serious, I often celebrate an opponent's injury. Matsui usually kills us. I'm happy to see him out of the lineup for the next few months. That's not a classy approach to things... but hey, I'm not a classy guy.

How could you watch that and think it wasn't serious? It was Theisman-like, arm version.

I don't think classy or non-classy is where we would start when describing you. That'd be much further down the list.

By serious, I meant life or career threatening. In regards to Matsui's alleged, um, "extracurricular activities," good thing he's a righty, or he'd be giving himself "The Stranger" for the next few months.

Please elaborate.

I guess this makes sense (explaining the most important play of the game)...

This game really should have been a blowout, with the Sox squandering tons of opportunities early. They left the bases loaded three times, stranding a total of 15 runners. Lowell and Mirabelli were robbed of extra-base hits by Crosby and Damon, while Bernie Williams, channeling Melky Cabrera, watched a tricky fly ball from Gonzo bounce into the stands for a ground-rule double. The play of the game was Mark Loretta's ground ball to short in the seventh, which saw a great catch by Jeter, a poor throw, an almost miraculous catch by Cairo, and Loretta safe at first as the ball popped from the glove as Cairo tried to tag him.
