Rizzo and Fuentes seem like decent rolls of the dice, but this deal hinges on whether Kelly is able to harness his potential.Ken_RosenthalSource: #Padres also getting PTBN in addition to Kelly, Rizzo, Fuentes - 4-for-1. #RedSox #MLBPending physical it is done
Good.Get the deal done Theo.Edes is tweeting that they're most likely still working out a deal. This ain't done yet.
Sounds like they just came to an agreement.Balco said:Good.Get the deal done Theo.Workhorse said:Edes is tweeting that they're most likely still working out a deal. This ain't done yet.

They werent going to sign him to an extension now anyways. They just wanted to make sure they could. Want to keep his salary this year on the books day one of the season to avoid the luxury tax.Hmm. Joel Sherman "Press conference for Gonzo from #Padres to #Redsox expected tomorrow. Will be prospects for Gonzo, but no extension -- for now"No extension. Wow.

Have to sign some middle relief or they are not winning the division. Someone has to bridge to Bard/Paps. Any of Rauch, Sherrill, Crain would be a good start. All Type B FA.Matthias said:Yes.Frankly I don't care what they do with the rest of their off-season.Sounds like they just came to an agreement.Balco said:Good.Get the deal done Theo.Workhorse said:Edes is tweeting that they're most likely still working out a deal.

Huge. That was the one deal the Sox needed to make, IMO.
Interested to see who they turn their attention to next. I doubt they go after Crawford seriously, and will go into the year with a Cameron, Ellsbury, Drew outfield.
I would rather they not re-sign Beltre. His defense will be missed, but Youklis will slide to 4rd with the Gonzalez signing.
Would like to see them go after some bullpen help. Specifically, George Sherril.
The rumor was Scutaro or Dice-K.Interesting. I imagine they'd flip Ellsbury for...?
Beltran has a no arbitration clause in his contract so the Mets/Sox wouldn't be able to get any compensation picks if he hobbles away after 2011.Sox said to be talking to the Mets about Carlos Beltran.
The no extension stuff for Gonzalez is pretty much BS. It has been reported that he got a 7 year extension in the $150-$160M range. But to avoid luxury tax, they won't announce it until opening day. This "no extension" stuff could be tricky with an injured player I imagine. If his shoulder is somehow not right, how do you justify big bucks down the line? And as a Yankee fan, I'm quite concerned with their discussions about adding Downs, that guy can pitch and he'd be murder on that team.
I mean what are they going to do with their overcrowded OF if they land Beltran? Ellsbury, Drew, Cameron, and Beltran?ETA - with how frail those folk are I'm sure it will work itself out.The rumor was Scutaro or Dice-K.Interesting. I imagine they'd flip Ellsbury for...?
Ooooooooofff, pass. Even if the Mets pay half, health is too much of a risk w/ a bunch of current RS OF that are not exactly iron men.Sox said to be talking to the Mets about Carlos Beltran.
BWAHAHAHAHA!!!! OUCH Werth also signed. Better start kissing that Beltre ###.
But my point is, you can agree to this, and if Gonzo tubes this season, shoulder related or not, how can you justify giving him some mongo deal? And if you announce too early, I wonder what the commish office's perception would be of an attempt to circumvent the salary tax?David Yudkin said:The no extension stuff for Gonzalez is pretty much BS. It's kind of hard to think of how Tito will line them up but I would guessLF-Crawford2B-Pedroia1B-Gonzalez3B-YoukilisDH-OrtizRF-DrewC-Salty/TekSS-Lowrie/ScutaroCF-EllsburyI would be shocked if he does anything different with 1-5 since that's his favorite L-R-L-R-L lineup. After that it could be a mix of anything. And yes, homer or not I would take that over anyone in the league. Is this now the best lineup in baseball?
Thats VERY top heavy. I think Papi is gonna be terrible this year also. Don't all teams put their best batters in the top 2/3rds of the lineup?Thats VERY top heavy.
Looks like your boys may be set to sign Ronaldinho.http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...o=feeds-newsxmlThis better not hurt Liverpool at the transfer window.![]()
Over the last two years, the only position players with a higher WAR than Crawford are Albert Pujols, Evan Longoria, Ryan Zimmerman, Joe Mauer, and Chase Utley. Crawford is ahead of sluggers like Adrian Gonzalez, Joey Votto, and Miguel Cabrera
It moved.Crawford is ahead of sluggers like Adrian Gonzalez, Joey Votto, and Miguel Cabrera
wow I didn't know thatStuff like this is starting to warm me to the deal

Why? with Crawford off the market and no one coming to market next off-season, Ellsbury and his rookie contract hold great value. I'm not saying you're wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if they were both shopping him and receiving offers. People talk but there's a lot of baseball folks out there that think very highly of this kid. And let's not overlook what he could do to a franchise if they decided to market him and go after the North American Native American communityHT> aahahaa
Color me wicked surprised to wake up to this... I personally think this was an overpay, the guy's OBP is my main concern. BUT it is just money, and not my money.
Excited to see two 50 stolen base candidates next year...
Also, I highly doubt Ellsbury gets moved
market him and go after the North American Native American community:boatloads:
Might wanna check your sources broskiMy numbers have it like this:Yanks have $175 mil committed for '11(12/25 signed), Sox only $150 mil including Jenks/Paps(19/25).Heard this from two sources: With the Jenks signing, BoSox payroll is actually higher than NYY. But the Yankees still have moves to come. about 1 hour ago via web Buster_ESPNBuster Olney
