The Official 2011 Boston Red Sox Thread (1 Viewer)

Agreed but it feels wrong to gloat about this one. I have too much respect for Tito and I hope this was more his choice than the teams at least. I think it was his demeanor as much as anything that helped captain the SS Impossible in 2004. Godspeed to a good man, never had anything but respect for him. The rest of that organization is easily hatable, right up to ownership and Theo but hard to hate Tito.

I honestly think he's underappreciated by the nation. I guess they forget quick what those 86 years felt like to throw away a guy who won like he did. He won't be easily replaced and this is indeed good news for the rest of us. But by the same token,'maybe he saw what torre went through after 2004 when the first shoe dropped and the media had exhibit A as to why he should be replaced.

Good luck Tito where the wheel takes you next.

Huge payroll but they had three guys in the rotation for most of the season that aren't major league starters anymore. They were rolling out Lackey, Wakefield, Bedard and Miller. Beckett and Lester didn't do squat in Sept. Lester underwhelmed all season actually.

The lack of support for Tito among Red Sox nation is just weak.

Take it with a grain of salt, but the rumors I'm hearing is that Tito is asking the red sox to not pick up his option. Not the other way around.

Yeah I heard on the radio one of the starting pitchers was drinking a beer in the clubhouse on an off day and Tito was livid and he thinks the team chemistry is ####. Who was the pitcher? (gonna assume it was Lackey)

I'll go with Beckett. He put on 60 lbs. in the past year.

Mut and Lou show on WEEI were bagging on him for gaining weight. They said most guys struggle to keep weight on during the long haul of the season and Beckett got so big he need new uniforms sizes.

Plus you've got Lester who's divorcing his wife that's battling breast cancer.

Might want to check your facts.

Did you just make this up? Do you know anything about Lester's past?

I'm sure he meant Lackey. Anyway, the only thing I know about Lester's past is that he was part of a Boston Red Sox team that choked away the 2011 season.

Got to think management didn't have Francona's back during the season. Wonder if he was forced to keep Lackey in rotation as well as keep on putting Wakefield out there to get 200th win.

When Doubrant was healthy they also went with A. Miller early in the season.

I'd agree on all acounts here

The only way this week could be better is if the Sox were dumb enough to get rid of Francona.

Pretty epic week for Yanks/Rays fans.

Got to think their are talks about whether A. Gonzalez can play third. Bring in Pujols and mix/match with Youkilis at 1b/dh. Bye bye Big Papi. I know they must be happy they missed out on Arod but Pujols would be a shoot in the arm that the fanbase seems to need.

Money is no object when TV ratings determine the real champions.

Count me as one of the few that don't think the Sox are that dumb to let Francona walk.

I didn't think it was a big deal when the Yankees let Torre go and I don't think this will be either.

Francona's a great manager, but 8 years managing in BOS or NY is just probably enough.

I'm not sure how much managers even matter, but either way, it doesn't sound like Francona had the ability or desire to fix what was wrong with BOS this year (or next).

If you manage in BOS or NY and you start dropping the "I can't get good clubhouse chemistry with overpaid superstars" excuse, it's probably time to go (what else the hell are you there for?)

Not sure how he's some huge loss. Like the Yankees after Torre, in a few years, it won't really matter that they didn't try to keep him. They'll plug a fresh voice in, keep outspending everyone and probably win a WS within 2-3 years.

You folks really spend too much time worrying about the Red Sox
Is there any team that has a bigger inferiority complex than the Red Sox? Good grief.
... says the guy who calls himself Dr. Awesome.
That's just arrogance and lookatme shtick. :shrug:Red Sox fans get awfully loud when their team wins or makes a big move in the offseason. They seem to have no issues speaking up until the team goes into a slump and falls apart. Then they get really defensive when people start poking fun. It's bizarre.

Has anyone heard who the bad seeds were in the clubhouse? The pitchers who were drinking on off days? (assuming they were starters).

Pathetic. And I am not sure who to blame, Theo or Tito. Did Francona try to discipline the players and was told not to? Did he allow it to go on?

Source: Epstein 50/50 On Whether He'd Leave Red Sox For Another Team

BOSTON -- Before the Boston Red Sox can advance too deeply in their managerial search, there is another order of business that the club must address with some urgency in the coming days.

Namely, what they plan to do in the event another club comes calling for general manager Theo Epstein, especially since, according to one major league source close to Epstein, it's "50-50" the GM would leave for the right situation.
 Seems like a classic George Costanza "Upper Hand" maneuver to me. Act like you might leave.....make them want to keep you.

The Globe is suggesting that Trey Hillman would fit the Red Sox needs as a Manager. I just hope that they don't hire a retread like Valentine.
