The ***OFFICIAL*** 2018 Pittsburgh Steelers Thread (2 Viewers)

So Bell is out partying Monday night instead of thinking about signing his deal?  Teammates have to feel disrespected at this point.
Nope, he can do whatever he wants in his time off.  It's not ideal, but I don't think this will change any minds.

Tyreek is amazing in press or off coverage, our only hope is to keep a safety very deep to try and contain the big plays when they happen. Not sure we have anyone who can cover him 1 on 1, but Burns is our best hope with his speed. I'd be shocked if Tyreek doesn't have at least 1 pass over 40 yards, hopefully it's just not a TD.

Also, sweeps could be the death of us.

I didn't say Tomlin was irreplaceable.  If anything is lazy, it's saying he should be fired and then dismissing the question of who should replace him.
I don’t think anyone is saying that either.  I’m just saying options should be explored.

Agreed.  Getting pressure on Mahomes is going to be key too.

I expect Ben to have a bounce back game, especially at home, but we cannot lose the turnover battle and hope to win this game.

I don't think that is going to happen any time soon.  The team would need to suck this season and again next before the Steelers think of switching coaches
If that even.  Rooneys have a long history of showing patience with coaches, and that has generally been an excellent thing.  I am not a Tomlin supporter, but would happily take 5 more seasons of him rather than see Pittsburgh start a coaching carosel.

So having someone good to replace him with is a prerequsite to even starting the conversation imo.

I cant imagine there is ANYONE that wants this dope on the field. If the organization has any brains,  he will never touch the field again

There was a time when taking anything an agent said at face value was also considered naive.

It is possible for two posters to put differing weights on the accuracy or honesty of a quote without either being naive, much less insulted over it.

I realize that Super Bowl championships are the ultimate goal but I would hardly say that Tomlin has done squat.   I am not saying that Tomlin should be coach for life but we could do worse.   As far as that debacle in Cleveland, Tomlin deserves some of the blame but he wasn't the one throwing picks, fumbling the ball and missing a game winning field goal in OT.
What did you think of George Siefert, Barry Switzer, pre Brady Bill Bellicheck?  History has shown us what type of coach Tomlin is and what he will be after Ben.  That's why he needs replaced it's already been too late.

Bell is in Miami partying it up so it doesn't look like he is ready to report anytime soon.  So let's get onto other things:

It looks like DeCastro's fractured hand injury is more serious than originally thought due to swelling.  They should be able to put a brace or cast it up but they can't do that until the swelling goes down.  DeCastro says he thinks he'll be able to play but if not B.J. Finney will get the start.   I like Finney but he isn't DeCastro...

Ben didn't practice yesterday either due to an elbow injury but Ben sometimes takes Wednesday practices off even when he's healthy so it is unclear how serious this is.  Cam Heyward also didn't practice with a knee injury but again some of the veterans routinely take Wednesday off.

Joe Haden missed practice yesterday with a hamstring injury and it looks like he won't be playing on Sunday and could possibly more.

On the bright side Vance MacDonald finally logged in a full practice.   Hopefully he won't develop a hangnail between now and Sunday.

Really,  why would a team want someone on the field whose agent has pretty much said he will not be giving any kind of effort.  Are you  that freaking naive
If they didn't want him on the team, they'd rescind the tag, or try to talk to his agent about sign and trade.  They've already said those things aren't options, so either they are the stupidest organization in the NFL (and remember, Dan Snyder still runs the Redskins), or they do want him in the field.  Why would they take what is essentially a $14.5M cap penalty to keep Bell off the field?  Are YOU that freaking ignorant of the reality of the NFL salary cap?

My take on this is the Steelers will play him when he reports since they are going to pay him $850k anyway (though they may decide to utilize the 2-week exemption while Bell "gets in playing condition" and also because they don't have to pay him for those 2 weeks).

I don't think they would be against trading him but Bell has to sign first and a team has to be willing to trade knowing that he can walk at the end of the season.  That could be a tough sell.

I don't see them rescinding the tag in any case because they don't want to set a precedent and it would forfeit what is certain to be a 3rd round compensatory pick in next year's draft.

At this point LeVeon is calling the shots.  He'll sit for as long as he wants and when he reports the Steelers will pay and play him.

This is my  :2cents:  anyway...

Agreed 100%, which is why I said the statement that no one in the Steeler's organization wanted Bell on the field was laughable and ignorant, despite what Bell's agent might have said.

Yep.  I do think it is possible the Steelers could deactivate Bell once he reports if it is obvious he is not giving 100% or is causing problems in the locker room but I doubt that will happen.  Bell was well-liked by his teammates and I don't think he would be a cancer but you never know...

Worried about Decastro, but even with Finney, if Ben is a go we should be able to put up lots of points this weekend, and hopefully our D can hold KC low enough for a tight win.

Do you think he removes himself from games after X touches or leaves the team again for the playoffs to save his body?

He could but my guess is the Steelers might deactivate him for insubordination if he does.

If LeVeon sits out to week 10 then even if he touches 30x for 6 games he's already reduced his pounding by more than 50% so he has accomplished his goal.

I may be naive but I think he goes with the flow when he eventually does report

I sure hope Ben's elbow is better than it was on Friday cause the clip of him throwing  that I saw on the news yesterday morning didn't look too good.

Decastro out

unless Ben plays A LOT better than last week I dont see how we win this one

Ben is going to light it up this week.  He loves this sort of drama - coming off a bad game, coming into the game injured, etc.  Plus it's the home opener against a KC team that stinks in the secondary.  Its the perfect storm for him.

hope so

It's going to be a long long year. Man this defense may be worse than last year. And how long are they going to wait to cut Jordan freakin Berry.

One of the top 3 worst defenses easily. Offense pathetic as well though. Another embarrassing defeat under tomlin. Okay, maybe both sides of the ball heard me & hopefully they'll make me eat crow

So does Jordan Berrry get cut immediately after the game? This clown is absolutely awful. There are area high school punters that could do what he is doing.

All this time I have #####ed and moaned about rebuilding the secondary and unfortunately they did it was some slow and soft players who I really wonder who taught them how to tackle.  I mean when Sammy Watkins is running you over then you are trouble

And can someone tell me the decade when Tomlin is going to realize that having linebackers cover quick tight ends never works.  Kelce did basically the exact same thing that Gronk does with ease.

Time management was pretty questionable at the end of the game.  Again Tomlin has way more faith in his defense then the fans do.  At least call a TO before the 2 minute warning.

Is Boswell going to be our next Jeff Reed where he has been really good and then gets the field goal version of Chuck Knoblaugh (misspelled badly) and can't kick anymore.

Oh welll at least Ben and Conner looked great.

He is awful, probably the worst punter in the league and it was plain as day last year and this preseason.  Yesterday he was doing what he was told to do (kick away from Hill), just doing it very poorly,  except for the one time late in the game where he got it downed at the 1 yard line.

This defense is vomit inducing.  Such an embarrassment for the home opener.
And I don't think that too much can be done about it.  Unfortunately it is what it is.

LeBeau has been gone now for 3-4 years and this is Butler's defense-- he owns it.  He needs to go at the end of the year if he can't figure out a way to fix it .

It's not just Shazier, but man that defense misses him in the middle.

I haven't been a Tomlin fan for several years now, but I've always been in the camp that it's not like better coaches are a dime a dozen.  But, I'm tired of Steelers teams playing undisciplined football.  Starting off flat in big spots.  Poor execution.  And WAY too much drama with how players talk and act.

I honestly don't know how easy it'd be to replace him with someone good, but it's been a gradual decline under his leadership that the talent of a few players has been able to overcome.  Those guys aren't going to be around forever.  I have a buddy of mine who's convinced it's all tied to Dan Rooney's passing, and the decline is an overall decline of the entire organization.

I was listening to Stan Savran radio show last week and he had Mark Madden on - Madden said the Steelers might be on the brink of unraveling, especially if they lost to KC - maybe there is something to that idea?

I think this season could very well be Tomlin's biggest challenge and it will be interesting to see how this plays out.  If Tomlin can right the ship it may be the crowning achievement of his career.  If it goes off the rails completely then it is probably time for him to move on.

* sigh * Now Antonio is talking about being traded.   What a circus and AB is the lead clown
No, he responded to the Steelers media who acted like he was at fault for a loss where the defense is still giving touchdowns today. The media in this country is gross. He called out Bouchette for falsely reporting an injury and now they gang up like the bullies they are to attack him, his ability and his character. When has AB not given everything on the field? I understand he has outbursts but he’s not half assing routes or blocking assignments out there. Every down is 110% with that guy.

Not disputing that but don't blame his immature postings on social media on anyone other than AB.  And every time he does it hurts the team.   You don't HAVE to answer every criticism with a stupid tweet although that does seem to be a thing in this country now.

AB is one of, if not THE, best receiver in the NFL but all he cares about is AB.

I disagree with your assessment that all he cares about is himself. Simply looking at AB vs Bell and it’s easy to see that isn’t the case. He could have been disruptive during his contract talks and wasn’t. Now does he seem like the most likeable guy when he posts these retorts to stupid commentary? No. How would like to be told Ben made your career, by a former Steelers PR person no less? The fan response seems to counter that stupid comment.

It isn't just this remark, he's done this numerous times as well as sideline outbursts, calling out the backup QB, pouting when he doesn't get the ball despite the team winning, etc.  Some people may chalk it up to passion but it sure looks like immaturity and whining.

Ugh, we looked like dog shirt.

I want to R-E-L-A-X, but it's hard with how terrible our D looked. I do think that the Chiefs look like a top 3 team in the AFC, so losing to them is probably not the worst thing ever, but we really need to win our next 2 games and I'm not sure we can with our D unless Ben plays amazing. He was great for 3 quarters yesterday, but we need him to be 100% lights out to win apparently.

Also, the lack of QB pressure yesterday was disappointing.
