Think about this, in a little over one year the steelers will have lost 3 players who could be considered the best at their position in the league (shazier, bell, ab) and have a hof qb who was contemplating retirement recently as well. Teams rarely recover from that — they need to be thinking of the future.

Poor little Antonio. The Steelers, including Art Rooney II, have repeatedly tried to contact him and he hasn't returned their calls. I am looking forward to the interview where I can hear how Tomlin was a meanie, Big Ben yelled at him at practice, and the all of the other Steelers like JuJu better.
I really think that AB has mental issues and needs some help.

Many Steelers fans are fans of the team, above any 1 player. Probably true of most teams/fans, but IMO, it seems to be true of Steelers fans to a higher degree. And, AB seems to be very “me”-centric. He wants the fans to take his side over the teams, and his feelings are hurt that they aren’t. Even if the situation was different (he played week 17 & all of this came out after the fact), most Steelers fans would (I believe) side with the team over AB, and his feelings would still be hurt.

As always, nobody can agree on who the Steelers should take in the upcoming draft. It seems like many teams have 2-3 players in 90% of the mock drafts out there, but that the Steelers are all over the map. Below are all of the players that I've seen mocked to them, it'll be interesting to see if it actually is one of them in April.

I think you highlighted the need positions. If White slips to them I think the Steelers have to take him.
I've read in several places the Steelers are enamored with Harmon. I am okay with that if AB is traded and we get another #1 but otherwise we need to go defense: CB and LB.

And the hits keep on coming. LJ Fort throwing Boswell under the bus on Twitter, saying all 4 teams in conference championship have elite kickers. Needless to say everyone torched him for it. This kind of sh@@ will be never ending and you'll be looking at a 6-10 team next year.

JJ Zacharisan talked in his podcast how if Boswell had made a few kicks Pittsburgh could have had 2 wins tacked on. Honestly it’s not Boz’s fault. FO and Tomlin ####ed up royaly not seeking a way to get him on IR very early in the year. It is getting rather embarrassing the complete and total disrespect out of the locker room. Do they not have players that put an end to this ####? Shouldn’t Heyward or Decastro be putting an end to this? Who wants to cross them?

It is apparent no one in the organization gives a damn. They have become the joke of the league, which I could never have imagined happening. And who does it all begin with??? But Tomlin has a great regular season record, so I guess we'll have to put up with this until he is ready to retire. Because according to most people he isn't going anywhere anytime soon, which is going to make the next however many seasons just brutal.

It was wrong of Fort to air that publicly, but he's 100% right. Bos sucked this year and cost us at least 2 wins on easy kicks.
Morgan Burnett announced that he would like the Steelers to release him. I agree that the Steelers should cut him, but if he's going to air this crap publicly, I'd ask for him to return some of that signing bonus and reduce our dead cap space. If you want out and want to tell the world, pay the price.
I think we need to move on from him, Dupree, and Gilbert. But we should be able to trade at least Gilbert I think.

Yes. He should start by firing Tomlin. I have no doubt the players know Tomlin is not the answer to help get this locker room re-focused, disciplined, and able to reach the team's potential, but only ARII can pull that trigger. It's not something that guys like DeCastro and Heyward can fix.
It's sad that the focus has been on Boswell. Dude kicked 5-6 game-winning FGs last year and you didn't hear the FO making claims that he was the only reason we made the playoffs then, but now they want to blame him for us not making the playoffs this year. Total lack of identifying and addressing the real issues, which starts with ARII.

If the Steelers want to keep Bos they need to suggest that he see a kicking trainer and a sports psychologist. His form seemed off from previous years, coming in at a steeper angle, and his head is clearly not right. I'm not saying he has mental issues, just that there's some reason he's lost his confidence/mojo and perhaps talking it out could help.

I thought it was revealed he had a groin injury. Like I said, the front office and Tomlin were the culprits here. They knew they had more options then just cutting him (and let’s not pretend that teams don’t advantageously use the IR). The kicking cost them multiple games.

He had a groin injury in week 16 though, that didn't affect him in weeks 1-15. He was amazing in 2017 and not in 2018. Sometimes it just happens, but the Steelers are going to be on the hook for dead money if they cut him. I vote that they try to use the offseason to correct the issue instead.Bojang0301 said:

I guess there is a possibility that he was dealing with an injury all season and it just never came out. I'm hoping that's the issue and that it wasn't mental.

The possibility is there, but his camp made it sound like it happened during week 16 walkthroughs prior to the game.

Honestly I won’t cry if it’s only to move up or only garners a couple picks outside the first round. Teams know by now what these headache WR’s over 30 years old bring... nothing but trouble. Selfish, childish individuals who don’t change and bring the locker room down if no steadfast leader (ala Tom Brady) is in place. This is a deep WR class. They could walk out with two high level athlete WR’s and have James Washington with a year under his belt and survive. Maybe not prosper as much but when it’s time it’s time.

I think there are things Tomlin deserves blame for and there are things he doesn’t deserve blame for... let’s leave that nonsense to the Tomlin thread though. Last update was that it was a “contusion”, hopefully nothing sneaks up two weeks from now.

If we can't get a 1st for him, or move from 20th into the top 5 picks, then I'd keep AB. Will it be a PITA, yes, probably. But the team is in win-now mode, if they can't get decent value for him you have to find a way to make it work. Whether that's finally dropping the hammer and fining him for every infraction, or coming up with some way to appease him. They'd have to figure that out. We can't afford to trade a top 5 WR in the league for peanuts.

I agree. I am sure the Steelers have in mind what they want for AB and if they don't get it or somewhere close they'll hold on to him. Then the ball will be in ABs court: play with the Steelers or hold out. The problem for him is that he's signed for three years and if he holds out he will be effectively retiring so I don't think that is a realistic option.
I originally thought they would work all of this out but now I really don't know.

Lots can happen between now and then (in either direction, though. Things that could help facilitate a move and things that could hinder it).

I wonder if the Steelers would trade him to an NFC team straight up for a 2nd round pick. If they can’t sort through their differences in the offseason, I would be thrilled if they can get a 2nd for him.

If you couldn't get a 2nd would you stoop to a 3rd? What about a 4th? At what point would you say "I know this guy is going to be trouble if we keep him but we can't accept anything lower than a X pick" or are you of the thinking that getting rid of AB for anything would be "addition by subtraction"?

I don’t think they should trade him for less than a 2nd. At that point, put him in a position where he cooperates or he holds out and effectively retires. The only wrinkle is if he actually plays for the Steelers but tries to sabotage them (e.g drop passeson purpose, not block, give half ### effort, etc). Not sure if he would take it that far.

I can't see his ego allowing him to drop passes or play half-%^#. Come game time he'll play hard.
My worry would be that he would just be a PITA: missing practices, acting out on the sidelines, showing up late for meetings and causing division in the locker room. Kind of what he has been doing but upping his game to be even more disruptive.
I think the Steelers are going to be holding out for a #1 but may accept a bundle of lower picks if they don't get any bites. The question is has the AB situation gotten to the point where he is such a cancer that you need to get rid of him at all costs because he and Ben/Tomlin/whoever can't work together?

I think if they can’t get a 2nd they ride it out and hope that his talent gets them a Super Bowl before the window closes.
I thought was still amazing last year and is still the most difficult WR to cover in the game.

"Drama" is a fairly new concept though... nobody gave a #### about football in the off season back in 1977. Drama is now insatiably sought after and used for ratings grabs.
Trying to think of the oldest, news-grabbing scandal that was larger than the game itself (which is now common on a week to week basis)... maybe some of the Dallas Cowboys stuff in the 1990s? Even that was largely unearthed until an ultimate "reveal all" type book was published.

Yeah as bad as the Love Boat thing was if that happened today they might have to disband the whole team!
The point I was trying to make with the 1977 team is that a lot of that was bad blood between the coaches, players and ownership but they managed to get past it. Maybe everything is too open and egos are too fragile nowadays but maybe they can get past it too. Time will tell I guess

Yes, I believe this may be the case where anyone who thinks they are someone is so worried about their brand.
I wonder how much of today's NFL athletes see what is happening in the NBA where players have taken control and conspire to build super teams and play together and want that for themselves? Problem there is on a roster of 12 a LeBron James turns a loser into a contender. In the NFL however the best player at any position might take a team (on his own) from 3-13 to 5-11 if the rest of the roster is dog meat.

Yep I get you. I was just asking if at some point you say we need to to get at least this (whatever this is) or we'll just keep him and hope for the best. Or do the Steelers say to themselves we'll hold out for the best offer but ultimately we need to get rid of him for the sake of the team no matter what it is.

I think that is precisely how they are likely going to operate/play this. Do they want a first+ for him if he's dealt? Sure, of course they do. But teams know he's clown shoeing them now, and will have to assume he'd be willing to clown shoe the new team too, plus he's over 30, etc, etc, so that'll all get baked into the perceived value. If the situation drags out, or degrades, the less they'll be willing to take to move on, I'd expect.
It doesn't make me happy, necessarily, (nor am I happy that Brown has decided to become a full-time clown shoe) it's just what I expect them to do.
