***The Official Milwaukee Brewers 2007 Thread*** (1 Viewer)

I gave these reasons in SLBDs win total thread on why the Brewers have reason to be optimistic this year.

It's been a while since they have given fans reason to be very optimistic. Of course the big step in the right direction is when the Selig family were no longer involved with the team. They ran the organization into the ground. The minor league system was a joke and Bud did everything he could to make Milwaukee an example of why he needed to help the small markets. The new ownership group led by Mark Attanasio has done a great job of turning the organization around. Doug Melvin has been a nice addition as the GM.

The minor league system is producing players again and they have been willing to spend some money. Hopefully they can be in the NL Central race all season!!!

1. Hardy and Weeks return and if they stay healthy that will be a good start to winning more than 81 games.

2. Sheets is back and poised to have a big year.

3. The continued development of Fielder and Hart given the chance to play everyday.

4. Johnny Estrada is a nice upgrade on offense.

5. An above average rotation of Sheets, Capuano, Suppan and Bush. I think Carlos Villanueva will emerge this year and they have a great youngster in Gallardo ready for a callup.

6. An upgrade in closer with Francisco Cordero

7. Bill Hall

8. Ryan Braun is a monster hitter in waiting with a brick for a glove. If he can can come around on his defense he will be a major upgrade for the offense because 3B is a weakspot until then. I doubt Corey Koskie plays again.

4. Johnny Estrada is a nice upgrade on offense. Agreed, HUGE upgrade over Damien Miller

6. An upgrade in closer with Francisco Cordero Meh, but its nice to have 2 decent closers...IF Turnbow keeps his head out of his ###

7. Bill Hall 'Nuff said but he has to continue to play well after he got his paycheck

8. Ryan Braun is a monster hitter in waiting with a brick for a glove. If he can can come around on his defense he will be a major upgrade for the offense because 3B is a weakspot until then. I doubt Corey Koskie plays again. Braun should be up by the break but his glove scares me...really really scares me
I'd also add that the Jenkins/Mench competition for playing time should only make each other better. Hopefully one will pick up the slack if the other hits a slump.I'm cautiously optimistic about the Crew this year. There sure are alot of "ifs". But its a fun time to be a Brewer fan. I'm along for the ride!

Did Bush have jitters tonight or what? I'm waiting for my DirecTV to get installed next week so haven't seen any games yet.

Oh well, Sheets on deck for tomorrow should be a good one. 2-1 Brewers is my guess.

Bush threw everything up in the zone. With his lack of a dominant fastball, it must have looked like a beachball coming in. Anything he did manage to keep down was an obvious ball. When you make Mark DeRosa look like George Brett, you're having a bad day.

Brewer fan living in Milwaukee, but I don't know much about the other teams in the National League.

With that said, I'm wondering...

Can the Brewers keep this up?

Is this just a streak or are we seeing how good they are and how great this team is going to be?

Also, what does their record need to be to make the playoffs in your opinions?

I don't see why they can't keep it up. They're a young talented team playing in an awful division. I think they'll be the team to beat in the Central just because who else is there?

As a complete team they actually are not playing very well yet. They are leaving a ton of guys on base every game. The future has arrived though. No more waiting for high draft picks to develope. They're here now and several have a years experience behind them already. They are 13-0 when leading after 7 innings. They are young and they are learning to win games where they used to lose close games. Sometime in the very near future they will really start to believe in themselves. The rest of the league will probably understand what they are capable of long before ther do. They also have much better depth than they have had in 15 years so injuries won't be as devestating as they used to be. Sheets has pitched horribly so far, minus opening day and really is nothing more than our #3 or 4 starter because you just can't count on him being there. Yes they can keep it up. Will they?

For any local Brewers fan who are looking for a cheap way to see a few games this year.

Get 1/2 price Brewers Tickets

to 6 pre-selected games + 2 bonus games (8 games total)

The Old Time Ball Players Association is a group that promotes baseball history in Wisconsin & baseball in general and has a great deal worked out with the Brewers for ½ price tickets to (6) pre-selected games plus (2) bonus games per year.

The deal worked out with the Milwaukee Brewers to allows OTBPA members to attend 6 pre-selected games plus (2) bonus games for ½ off the regular ticket price. Cost of the OTBPA membership is $10 yearly. All you have to do is present the coupons from the yearly mailer to any ticket window and decide on where you want to sit. Field Level, Loge Level, Club Level & Terrace level seats are included in this deal subject to ticket availability of course.

There are some limitations. Uecker seats, Cubs games, special promotions or fan giveaway games are not included in the ½ price ticket deal but that still leaves a lot of games where you can get a field level seat for far less than a regularly priced game ticket.

The 6 pre-selected games + 2 bonus games (8 games total) ½ price coupons are:

Wednesday, April 4, 2007 vs. LA Dodgers

Tuesday, May 29, 2007 vs. Atlanta Braves

Friday, June 22, 2007 vs. KC Royals

Monday, July 16, 2007 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

Sunday, August 19, 2007 vs. Cincinnati Reds

Tuesday, September 25, 2007 vs. St Louis Cardinals

1 Monday-Thursday game in either April or May plus

1 Monday-Thursday game in either August or September

The OTBPA also has a great annual spring banquet at Serb Hall that includes a guest speaker that is affiliated with the Brewers in some way, free beer and soda from 5:30PM until 6:30PM (when the banquet starts) and a Raffle after the dinner portion is over. The Raffles include a cash raffle and a huge amount of baseball related items/collectibles that awaits anyone who purchases either of the two raffle tickets. The banquet is a blast and is only $10 per ticket. The raffle this year is on Thursday, April 12, 2007.

For more information contact the OTBP Hotline: 262-292-4002.

The Brewers are looking great tonight. They are really beating the c### out of my Cardinals. I had to turn the game off once the Brewers got up by 9. I think they are the class of the NL Central this year.

I get to go see a game in about a month. We are having a bachelor party for a friend in a month. Cubs vs. Brewers on a Tuesday night. I can't wait to see the stadium.

Good luck the rest of the way Brewers fans!

Going to catch a game or two this weekend against the Pirates. When was the last time (if ever) a Brewers-Pirates series was big?

Since 2002, the team with the best record on May 1st....

2006 - White Sox 18-7 (missed playoffs)

2005 - White Sox 18-7 (World Series Champs)

2004 - Red Sox, Twins, Dodgers 15-8 (WS Champs, made playoffs, made playoffs)

2003 - Yankees 22-6 (Lost WS)

Playoff time in Milwaukee?

Are fans starting to show up more?
Attendance is up so far this year.I expect that if they keep winning that they'll begin to average 30K per weeknight and sell out weekends.I've been to many Brewer games, but have never been to a game that was sold out that wasn't 60% Cubs or Cardinal fans. I'm really looking forward to seeing a huge crowd being so excited for good baseball here in Milwaukee

FYI, Capuano took one in the calf and left the game in the 4th. They're saying its just a bruise and that he's day to day.

Up 4-0 right now in the bottom of 5

Chalk up another W for the crew, and a sweep of the Cards.

Capuano is fine, Yost said he probably could have stayed in and pitched. Shouldn't miss his next start.

I wouldn't mind seeing an Indians/Brewers world series. That would be a refreshing change with some of the best young players in the game.

More than 40,000 to see the Crew play the Bucs tonight, putting them at more than 1/2 million for the season so far. The Brewers are currently on pace for just under 2.5 million for the year, but it'd be great to see things pick up a bit and average 38,800 for the rest of the year to finish over 3 million.

Who sees a hole on this roster right now? Aside from lack of experience, I don't really see a weakness that can throw them off the track they are running on right now.

Middle Reilef and 3rd base but if you think about it, Braun will be up at sometime and Gallardo may be up to be used out of the pen this year. Also, Capellen is still an option.

What's encouraging is I don't believe they are playing their best ball yet but they continue to win. Weeks and Hall have not hit yet. Sheets is just now finding his groove. I also like the fact that this team doesn't rely on just one or two players but every game it is somebody else. Go Brew Crew!

 Carlos Villanueva is pitching shutout ball, Matt Wise is pitching lights out too. Spurling is a bit rocky, but right now middle relief is definitely not a weakness at this point.

Dave Bush in the 5 spot is sort of week. He could turn it around though. Remember, this guy led the team in wins lat year. If he doesn't Villanueva is ready to start, plus there is Gallardo. Braun will solve the lack of power out of 3rd base problem. I am a little worried about Braun, Weeks, and Bill Hall in center field all on defense at the same time though. I'd like this team a little better if Gwynn developed and was the leadoff hitter / CF, Hall moved to the corner, Weeks moved down in the order and Hart went to the bench.

As has been mentioned, middle relief has been lights out this year (and Turnbow setting up Cordero is sick) - defense at 3rd is solid with the platoon, and since they are getting power from SS this year, they can give up some at 3rd base. I'd like to see Braun get a shot if he is ready, but I wouldn't mess with the chemistry this team is displaying right now for an unproven player.Dave Bush is a solid guy in the rotatation - an exchangable piece of the puzzle to be sure, but over 162 games, you'll get more good than bad from the guy.I think the only way the Brewers might be better this year would have been to play Gwynn in center and Hall at third from the outset - can't do that now, but that would have made them better defensively, and I think Gwynn is showing he can hit big league pitching. Hall has made strides in CF - anyone who has watched from the start of the season will agree that the first week he looked lost out there, but has looked much, much better of late.

I think they would have done this if the plan was not to bring Ryan Braun up this season. No use moving Hall from infield to outfield in mid-season. I would still look to see Gwynn in center and Hall in one of the corners before too long. Menchkins then becomes Harkins, and Mench is traded to restock the minors after Braun and Gallardo come up. Gwynn is just too good on defense to not find a way to get him in the line-up if he can just hit a little. He'll probably take a hit away with his defense almost every day.

I'm not a huge baseball fan like I once was, but I'll have to jump on board here. Brew Crew is looking damn good! :brush:

Cap is on fire!

Let's hope Hall's 3 for 4 last night (and GW hit Sunday) get him on a tear for a few weeks. Never would have thought the Crew would be sitting 12 over with Weeks hitting below .250 but hats off to the pitching staff. Hope the fun ride continues!

I'm really trying hard to temper my enthusiasm because shades of last year keep creaping in, but this team sure is maknig it difficult not to get too excited! Go Crew!

:banned: :pickle: :banned: :pickle:

This team is down right nasty.

My thoughts:

--Even with Weeks and Hall not producing (Hall is bouncing out of his skid), the top of the order is ridiculous.

--We have inning eating pigs in ALL of our 5 starters.

--Our defense has improved immensely over the course of the past month.

--No matter who we plug in, they produce. Be it Gwynn/Mench/Miller etc. It doesn't even matter if they have sat for 2 days. Sign of a well coached team....

--It's over if we have a lead after 7. It is just that simple right now.

It is ####### great (and about time) to be a Brewer fan about now...

:excited:  :boxing: :banned: :pickle: :goodposting:
