The ***Official*** Perfect Season Celebration Thread (1 Viewer)

Dude - the Jets cheated, but there draft pick should not get an *. Thats just a little harsh.
They did? When? Must've missed it. I remember something like it, but could've sworn the league cleared them of any wrongdoing. As opposed to the Pats who DID get caught cheating. But seriously, they got caught in the 1st quarter of week 1. No way an asterisk applies to their season's accomplishments.

Can someone please explain to me why any team's regular season record, in any sport actually means anything?

Give the Patriots their due. They won AT Indy, AT San Diego, AT Dallas, and AT the N.Y.Giants and AT Baltimore. They had to hang on against Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Must be the toughest schedule in the history of the NFL. Still...this Patriots team had to get some lucky calls and played the Colts WITHOUT Harrison. Congrats on a perfect season, but I doubt they make the Super Bowl, much less win it all...just another good season. Ask the '85 Bears.
Remind me never to have you give me a congratulatory toast  Like it or not, people will be talking about the Patriots for many years to come. They are now firmly ensconced in the anals of football history.
:cough: I think you meant "annals".:cough:

doesn't mean much, other than determining a tiebreaker here and there....UNLESS SAID RECORD ENDS WITH "-0"
What does the -0 get you?
Hey Steviey...this thread is clearly labeled the CELEBRATION thread. Feel free to dissent or complain about the insignificance elsewhere, but not in this thread.Thanks.

Fair enough.

No, but I've been asked to take it elsewhere so I will.

Awesome season. And breaking two NFL records on one play was amazing.

That said, if they don't win the Super Bowl, it will be a lot less meaningful.

:blackdot: I do appreciate a rational point of view.

From that perspective, I can't express enough how exciting it's been watching the Patriots. To have them finish 16-0 and, in the same game, break the single season points mark, set a new NFL record for margin of victory, and to have Jerry Rice and Peyton Manning's marks go down in the same play was just astounding.
This is going to come off as me sounding very bitter, but so be it.Randy had an unreal season, no question. But his new "TD record" is a joke.

22 TDs in 12 games >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 23 TDs in 16 games.

Especially given the fact that defenders could actually touch receivers in 1987.

Congrats to the New England Patriots and their fans. A truly remarkable accomplishment especially in this day of free agency.

Enjoy it Patriots fans. Well earned and I for one am jealous. Wish the Pack went perfect and I am glad we do not need to beat you until the Superbowl. Wow what a team!

GO Pack GO

Doesn't Rice have some scab touchdowns in that record? Moss scored all of his against real NFL players.

Doesn't Rice have some scab touchdowns in that record?
No. Rice played in the 12 non-strike games, not the 3 strike games.Edit: If people want to put an asterisk on Moss' record because he needed 16 games while Rice only needed 12 to set the record, then I think Strahan should have an asterisk on his 22.5 sack record in 16 games since Reggie White put up 21 in 12 non-strike games in 87. I'm kidding of course, but just wanted to give one example of how parsing records like this can get out of hand quickly. Records are records. What Rice (and White) did in 87 may be more impressive than what the current record holders did, but the current record holders indeed hold the record, no asterisks.

I can't help noticing that I'm running into far more Pats fans than I did in the early 90s.

Oddly enough, every one of them happened to be one of the 1,800 people in the stands back then.

Congrats to the TRUE Pats fans who actually did stick with the team through all those lean years.
You'll find that to be true of many Red Sox and Celtics fans too. LA Dodger fans have NOTHING on the fairweatheredness of Boston sports fans, which is why they are so hatable.
I have to call :bs: on this. Red Sox nation may have grown more of a voice over the Theo years, but it is, and always has been, a large, fiercly loyal group that suffered through generations of taunting from our NY bretheren. Not to complain, because the NYY earned it. But to call out any Boston fan as a fair weathered fan is nothing but :bs: P.S. I will concede the Celtics.

Congratulations to the Patriots. That is quite an accomplishment!

Now please let us never have to hear from the 1972 Dolphins and see them with their champagne bottles anymore!
