The ***OFFICIAL*** Washington, DC thread (1 Viewer)

I think the better question is: How much heartbreak can we all take in one night?
Wiz playing with house money after a Game 1 road win. Only the Caps can deliver any real heartbreak.

(Now watch the Wiz blow a 25 point lead as John Wall tears his ACL)
DELETE THAT CRAP NOW!!
NO IT'S NOT POSSIBLE!!! NOT POSSIBLE!!!
The most DC sports moment ever. It was the Raptors too IIRC.
I remember it from the Michael Ruffin-Mo Pete disaster against Toronto. But, they were discussing it on the Junkies this morning. They all remembered it as the Toronto game, too, but apparently there was another one. I don't remember which game it was. Buck has done that call at least twice.

Caps and checking the Wizards score on my phone. I hate baseball. Plus there's 213 regular season games left. This is still basically preseason.

As far as I'm concerned it's from the Ruffin game and only the Ruffin game. A perfect moment, captured perfectly.

Buck might be the best play-by-play guy we've ever had around here. He nails the big plays both ways at the end of the game, and something about his voice just perfectly encapsulates the Wizards experience. You can hear the combination of frustration and inevitability every time he says "and a nineteen point Wizards lead has been cut to two"

Probably. It's hard for me to even think of many others. Who was before Buck for the Bullets? I watched some Bullets games in the 80s and 90s but have no idea who called the games.

I always enjoyed Frank Herzog on the radio, but that could just be fond childhood memories of him saying "Touchdown Washington Redskins" in the glory days. And Ron Weber was a good Caps' radio announcer. But, again, it could just be that I'm remembering back to my youth and thinking everything was great back then.

All I know for certain is that Dave Johnson (Wiz radio and United TV) is horrible. Can't stand listening to him.

Like the time he called dagger on a game-losing air ball? I like Buck.

Herzog is a family friend. I'm trying to get him up here to play golf sometime this summer. Lives in NC now.

I have a hard time with Laughlin and Joe B. Would be happy to have Fornes/Koken back.

:lmao: :lmao:

And, of course, Buck will always have his "Playboy" interview with Gibbs. Classic.

btw, i'm pretty sure i saw mchenry sitting down stretching, under the 14th street bridge on the mt. vernon trail yesterday. 95% sure.
Wearing yoga pants?
no i was not. she, along with every other woman in the dc area not in work clothes, was. god bless em.
Hemlines are rising the the DMV, for sure. Unfortunately, all too many of them are revealing lower halves still very much behind the curve of 'Spring Training'. Timing still a bit off...

The retracted dagger! Another instant classic. Got my hopes up for a second.

I actually give him credit for never slipping in a snarky comment about Leonsis relegating them to the upper reaches of the lower bowl (the reason he blew that call). I'd have been pretty pissed off in his position.

BTW you perverts missed some sort of nurses' rally on the Hill this morning. Easily the best commute of my life.

Gonna be quite a weekend. Thursday night Game 5 at home, Friday night Game 3 at home with a 2-0 lead, Saturday ? Game 6 hopefully with a chance to shut down Nassau Coliseum, Sunday evening Game 4 at home. And a possible (let's be honest, probable) Game 7 at home on Monday night.

Sorry kids, looks like its community college for you.

I assume anyone who's a Caps fan got the email about the presale for the potential Game 7, but if you didn't and you want to give it a go, shoot me a DM with your email and I'll forward the link/password to you.

Definitely didn't expect the Wiz to be up 2-0 right now
The home team is 11-2 in the NBA playoffs so far. The Wizards are the 2.
Who would have predicted that? With the way the regular season was going for the Wiz, I was totally prepared to be down 0-2. To be going back home up 2-0, very impressive. Even if the Raptors were falling off towards the end, the Wiz have looked damn good.

cant help to still have that gut feeling that there is still so much time left for lucy to pull away the football. but for now? eat it lucy!

They can't stop the stretch 4. Turns them from the Knicks into the Warriors. Literally- I think their points per possession number with the stretch 4 lineup is slightly higher than the Warriors season-long league-leading number.

It's great for this series, but hopefully it's even greater for the future. They couldn't run it out much this season because they have six big men who deserve minutes and because Paul Pierce is old as hell, but if this display gets Ernie to pull his head out of his #### and assemble a 2015 roster instead of a 2005 one the future could be bright. Obviously there's the ultimate stretch 4 possibility after next season, but they can put together a quality roster even without him. Wall and Beal are a perfect fit for a smallball approach and you can add Porter to that if he keeps defending like this and can hit at >35%

This is probably content more appropriate for the Wiz or NBA thread, but who doesn't want to talk sports this morning?

Title Town USA, obviously.

Has that ever happened before? Caps playoff win + Wiz playoff win + Nats win? Seems unlikely, right?
Nope. Now granted, the earliest it could have happened was 2005. Not sure how many times it was even a possibility.

Ah screw it. its our thread lol.

Only thing I'm worried about is that this keeps Wittman here next year.

i think it highlights the need to get rid of wittman. unfortunately, either ernie or leonsis likes him. or both. but it seems painfully obvious that he has mismanaged the team at multiple junctures and needs to go.

I'm starting to blame Ernie for the lack of personnel to run it more than Witt for not running it Witt gets some blame for other things, like the long twos.

But enough negativity. What an amazing night. The out of nowhere walkoff was the perfect topper.

They can't stop the stretch 4.
For clear-sky fans... what is this lineup in the Wizards context?
Pierce at the power forward (the 4). Having someone at that position who can shoot three pointers means the defense can't keep two big guys near the paint and it opens up a ton of space on floor for Wall and also for Beal, who you may have noticed getting to the rim a lot last night. Guys can't help because they can't leave someone like Pierce a wide open three. Handing a decent shooter a wide open three is the worst thing you can do on the defensive end in the NBA.

The most effective one the Wiz have run out so far is Wall-Beal-Porter-Pierce-Gortat. Toronto can't stop it, or at least they haven't so far. Both games unfolded exactly the same way, with those five playing together as soon as Wall finishes his customary break at the start of the second quarter and the Wiz immediately going on a huge run when they do. Usually you'd counter it by going at the stretch 4 in the post (imagine if Pierce had to guard LaMarcus Aldridge or Blake Griffin) and/or by employing lots of guys who can switch off picks and defend lots of positions, but the Raptors haven't had the personnel to do either of those things so far.

Somewhat of a Trevor Ariza reprise, which they were sorely missing in the latter half of the season, and probably what they expected to get out of Martell Webster. Except that even at 37, Pierce brings more to the table, and that's no knock on Ariza - what we're seeing out of Pierce is exactly how you'd like to see every 'all-time great' end his career, unlike cringing every time Emmit Smith carried the ball for the Cards. Great to see Otto Porter getting significant minutes and doing significant things as well, and while the stretch forward lineup is working against Toronto, I hope Humphries is getting geared up for the next series. I think his absence was huge in the Feb/March, and when they start needing to get bigs back on the court, he presents some unique skills that set him apart from Gortat, Serafin, Hilario and Gooden and can cause some matchup problems of his own against the Hawks, if the winning continues...

serafin is terrible. there are probably scores of 10-day guys out there better.
Yup, I've been saying that for years. He's actually played a lot better this year than I ever expected, but I think he's in Europe/China within a couple seasons.

Well, lets not get crazy, Ariza is a much better player at this point. But the combination of Otto (if he continues to play decently) and Pierce was a much more economical option.

Got game 7 tickets! :pickle:

Also, Iron Horse bar close to the arena is one of our (Ocelot) first draft accounts. They bought some kegs of Lemon Yellow Sun, our imperial wheat. 8% hop loaded easy drinker. Hoppy, but not bitter hoppy (only 40 ibus). Wheat smooths it out and sweetens it up a touch.

We'll hopefully launch a few more DC bars in the next two weeks. If you're at a craft beer bar that frequently rotates taps ask for Ocelot.

If anyone wants to meet me at Iron Horse to pregame I'll buy a round.

I really need to talk to you about this. You, or whoever else is representing/distributing/marketing your Brewery and it's products.
