Jason Witten TE 'Boys

-his teams no1 target

-high powered offense

-mitts like glue

-great YAC

In any league where u start 1 TE, he should be basically untradeable.

In my PPR league, he is the no1 TE and has almost DOUBLED the production of the next best.

I love thinking about positional scarcity, and he is the prime example of this. The dropoff to the next best TE is so great that over the course of a season I just dont think u can trade him in a fair deal.

He is in my league also good for the #7 overall WR/TE.

Congrats to any of u sharks who took him in the late 4th or early 5th, ride the great white hope all the way to the fantasy summit

In one of my leagues, I only have Cooley and Gates as my TE, but I do have Peterson, Brees and Fitzgerald as my three main studs. I guess I should offer these three for Witten straight up and hope his owner is dumb enough not to realise that he can't trade his TE in a fair deal?

I would tend to agree with you - for TE-mandatory leagues that place reasonable emphasis on TE scoring, there may be no better value at any position.

Witten was going way too early for my liking this year - I actually thought Gates was a great value pick this year and got him in two leagues fairly late

Why is late 4th/early 5th too early for a top 7 wr??and by my reckoning, if he has scored 80 points over 5 weeks and the next best TE has around 40 points, that means if u have witten in ur team u have a WEEKLY advantage of 40 divided by 5, 8 points.Think about that, a position where u can depend on an average 8 point edge on ur weekly opponent.Correct me if im wrong, but i believe nowhere else in the fantasy football world does this occur.

It depends on your scoring - I play in a TD-heavy league, so Gates is actually scoring higher than Witten - and Witten was going earlier than the 4th in most of my drafts. I'm not really disagreeing with you - I wanted the guy in every league I am in, and I have owned him on two championship teams in the past 3 years. But the price was just too steep this year

:goodposting: The OP talked about the value of a late 4th / early 5th acquisition of Witten; in most redraft leagues, he's gone in the early 3rd, or even late 2nd in PPR.

Fair points. And i spose i should give gates his due, there were a few years where he was going very very high in redrafts, and rightly so; he was a very good no1 wr.and in most yahoo leagues, in colston's rookie year, he was TE eligible and GOLD

In a TE-required ppr league, he's more than worth an early 3rd round pick. Dude is TE1 by 40 points, and is actually WR4 right now, behind only Jennings, Fitz, and Boldin (who he will pass next week). Hell, at this point, Witten was worth a 1st round pick.
