The OUT Due to COVID List: PLAYOFF EDITION (Save your szn thread) (1 Viewer)

Three more Kansas City Chiefs players were added to the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday afternoon, bringing the tally of Chiefs out of action due to positive tests or close contact with someone known to have contracted the coronavirus to 13.

Added to the list Tuesday, per the NFL’s daily transactions report, were receiver Tyreek Hill, tight end Blake Bell, cornerback Rashad Fenton, linebacker Nick Bolton, tackle Lucas Niang, guard Kyle Long and safety Armani Watts.

They join tight end Travis Kelce, cornerback Charvarius Ward and kicker Harrison Butker, who were placed on the list Monday, and defensive end Chris Jones, linebacker Willie Gay Jr. and receiver Josh Gordon, who landed there last week.

#WashingtonFootball believes quarterback Kyle Allen has a good chance to return to play since the #Eagles game got moved to Tuesday

he’s got about 49 minutes to test negative & hop on a private jet

otherwise it’s Garrett Gilbert time
Neither Allen nor Heinicke will play. Time for Gilbert Gotfried, QB.

Harrison Butker ruled out for Sunday because he's unvaxxed. Since we haven't heard anything similar for Kelce or Tyreek, that would suggest they're both vaxxed.

In my dynasty league I have six players on the COVID list, including Ekeler, Cooks, and Kelce.  At this rate, I might be lucky to be able to field a team.  I know that we all have to deal with injuries and plan around them, but this is ridiculous from a fantasy football management perspective (which is obviously the least of any of these players' concerns, but still annoying).

Forgive me, but how exactly does this work.  Taysom on list = Out, but Ekelar, Kelce, and others are not necessarily Out?  When was the cutoff day?  X-days before the players game is the Out/Possibly In cut line?

if someone is unvaxxed, they're out already. if they're vaxxed, they can test negative and play still.

So Dalvin is unvaxxed?  I ask because Rotoworld is saying week 17, but not mentioning his vax status.

And Taysom must be unvaxxed too, then, right?

Cook’s vaccine status is a bit uncertain, but reports suggest he is unvaccinated. Beat writers have tweeted that he has been following the protocols required of unvaccinated players (which includes wearing a mask more regularly).

If he is unvaccinated, he has gone on the list as either a close contact or because of a positive test result. As a close contact, he would be required to quarantine for a five-day period and could return if not symptomatic. If he tested positive, he would be required to quarantine for at least a 10-day period, after which he could return if not symptomatic. In either of those cases, there is no way he could play this Sunday against the Rams.

On the off chance he is vaccinated, he would have a chance to play on Sunday. If vaccinated, he can return if he is asymptomatic for at least 24 hours by one of the following options:

He receives two BRL PCR test results that are either negative or produce Cycle Threshold (CT) values of 35 or greater; OR

He receive one BRL PCR test result that is either negative or produces CT values of 35 or greater and a negative Mesa test result from a test taken within 24 hours of the BRL PCR test. Both tests can be taken at the same time or less than 24 hours apart; OR

He receives two negative MESA tests 24 hours after the initial swab was taken, but can be taken concurrently provided it’s two separate new swabs.

Whoops.  Just dropped Miami defense.

me too

this is insane
As did I.  Was thinking that I'd lean towards the home team (NOS), as I had both MIA and NOS to choose from.  Now, I'm wondering if NOS will be able to keep their defense off the field, in which case I'd probably rather have MIA.  Then again, just about every time this year where I think a defense is going to do well against a backup (or 3rd string) QB, I'm wrong.  Case in point, PHI against WAS last week.

I don't know... Maybe I'll just stick with NOS at home.  They looked pretty damn good last week.

New team strategy.  Have a Covid party on a thursday.  After incubation period everyone tests positive on monday.  Everyone misses the following game.  Everyone is back for the rest of the season.

Well, maybe a better idea week 10, but the teams at the top of the conference might want to consider this.

Everyone is going to get it anyway.  Be strategic about it

Starting to seem like 96% NFL vax rate is everyone except star players.
Kind of make sense — marginal players have more incentive to get vaxxed to avoid being cut (not supposed to be a reason to ditch someone but it’s naive to pretend it’s no factor at all) and to avoid being ostracized if they infect a bunch of their teammates. Star players don’t have to worry about the former and it’s unlikely their peers will ostracize them for the latter.

They either need to postpone the season or just play it out without testing.

Otherwise we are in for a very awful next two months.  Then again maybe that gets ratings.

All the players are going to get it.  The vaccine is doing nothing against the variants, obviously.

Yes, if you remove one's own well being, and those in their orbit, from the equation.

I’m continually surprised when I hear one of these marginal bench guys is unvaxxed. You have so few opportunities to make your mark in the league, and it’s sad to see someone voluntarily throw one of those opportunities away because they refuse to get a life saving shot

Because for them their life is not in danger if they don't take it but there are numerous unknowns that could affect their career if they do. That's why they made the decision that they did.

That’s true. We all remember when Damien Williams was in line to start for the Bears in place of an injured Montgomery, but had to miss that week’s game because he was experiencing side effects from his vaccine shot.

Oh wait that’s not what happened. He actually blew his chance because he was unvaccinated and tested positive. I must have been thinking of one of the many other players who missed games because of vaccine side effects. Can you remind us their names? Actually, you don’t have to list all of them. Just tell us one. One player whose career has been impacted because they got the vaccine.

ETA: By the way, you may well be right that that was the reasoning of those players who didn’t get the shot. My point was that, if so, they made a really poor career decision. For a player on the roster bubble, remaining unvaxxed is empirically riskier for his career than getting jabbed.

And in their opinion they weighed the outcomes. Their marginal career only has so long to make an impact and if they have a side effect from something they don't really need, it's over.

The shots are not intended to stop you getting it, it is intended to stop you getting the worst end of symptoms. Of course, the nature of the thing is that everyone that isn't a lineman would get mild or no symptoms the enormous majority of the time with or without the shots, given its an illness that is worst felt by the elderly and the morbidly obese - neither of which your average professional athlete is

To dive back on topic, looks like Rhamondre is out so I'm scrambling for starters in two leagues now, still likely needing to fill a Kelce-sized hole in them

Anyone else starting players  today you usually wouldn’t, just to avoid last minute outs? More so on Thursday I’d assume

guess it’s okay that I lost last week, I can’t even start a real lineup:

Cook, Dalvin MIN RB (C)175.807

Freeman, Devonta BAL RB110.308

Hunt, Kareem CLE RB (C)99.0013

Mattison, Alexander MIN RB89.507

McKissic, J.D. WAS RB (I)108.109

Cooks, Brandin HOU WR (C)192.2010

Godwin, Chris TBB WR (I)223.409

Grant, Jakeem CHI WR (O)55.1010

Moore, Elijah NYJ WR (R) (C)137.906

Renfrow, Hunter LVR WR195.508

Samuel, Curtis WAS WR (Q)10.409

🤷

They literally changed the definition of vaccine....vaccination used to mean immunity, now protection.

Merry Christmas everybody

Not entirely sure; but I was reading something yesterday that said teams might/could remove players from the COVID list today, in the hopes that they’d test negative tomorrow and be able to play.

That happed last week with Holland. He was removed from the COVID  list, but still tested positive and couldn't play on Sunday.
