The Pool's Top 25 RBs - your current rankings (1 Viewer)

thecardiackid

Footballguy
I tried to seach one out to bump, but the search function wasn't working (error messages) - so I gave up and decided to start up another. Now that we've got one game to judge, we're coming up on week 2, and a lot of situations have already changed, I'm curious to see how the pool ranks em' today.

I think this would be helpful - to get a current / updated cross-section of views - w.r.t. forecasting trades / values and potential starter questions, without getting specific about any particular player, situation, or offer.

I'll give my :2cents: first. Please do not hijack and turn this into a looooong debate about anyone's picks. If you think more info would be helpful regarding someone's rankings, please feel free to ask for explanations. BUT, I'd rather not see 20 posts about why Tatum should be 15 spots higher than M Bell though FWIW.

Just give us your top 25 forward w/ maybe brief descriptions as needed to justify your rankings.

:stickstoeinwater:

1. LT

2. SA (will resume his dominance soon)

3. Tiki (GMen's line looks great. PPR might even end up higher)

4. Rudi (knee looks better and he's become more of a factor in CIN)

5. SJax (no TDs yet, but looks very solid - and Bulger will pick it up)

6. LJ (4 games w/o Green won't help his cause)

7. FWP (TDs still a ?, but 1400 isn't)

8. McGaehee (thought he looked good @ NE and will get the opps)

9. R Brown (still needs to prove something but could go higher)

10. C Taylor (hard to ignore 31 carries)

11. Gore (hard to ignore 2 scores AND 5.4 ypc w/ 6/83 rec)

12. Westbrook (dinged again, but the main guy in his offense)

13. Dunn (finally getting some respect)

14. Edge

15. T Bell (has a chance to be the 20+ carry guy now in DEN)

16. J Jones (MBIII is the backup, not 1/2 of the RBBC)

17. Portis (missing games early and still hurting)

18. K Jones (very involved early, but rushing is ?'able still)

19. Caddy (I think he falls even more)

20. T Jones (still getting in shape & will return to last year's form w/ Rex respectable)

21. A Green (bad offense, but he looked good)

22. F Taylor (as long as he stays healthy JAX loves to run)

23. Dillon (Maroney will keep him out of the top 20 in a full RBBC)

24. Bush (can't ignore 20 touches a game - but RBBC)

25. D Foster (can't be that bad)

Then L Jordan, M. Bell, Maroney, Droughns, Deuce, Rhodes, Jacobs, Lundy, Barlow/Blaylock

Your imput is much appreciated. :bye:

1. Tiki Barber [screw those who think he'll be worse because he's 30+. 20 less yards than Alexander on 11 less carries last year.]

2. LaDainian Tomlinson [Hasn't lost a step.]

3. Steven Jackson [Looks amazing, needs more of a nose for the EndZone.]

4. Shaun Alexander [sucked, but is still great overall.]

5. Warrick Dunn [Age? What's that? Still amazing.]

6. Rudi Johnson [Looking great.]

7. Ronnie Brown [2 TDs in the first week is rather rare. Especially against the Steel Curtain.]

8. Willie Parker [115 yards. 1 TD. 'Nuff said.]

9. Larry Johnson [Doesn't look like last year. Isn't yet proven, so hopefully last year wasn't a fluke.]

10. Chester Taylor [Hutch is huge for him. 31 carries? Damn.]

11. Brian Westbrook [still great, but needs to get more rushes.]

12. Frank Gore [Looked awesome with the most Fantasy Points of RBs.]

13. Willis McGahee [He's still Willis McGahee, and he has shrugged off injury.]

14. Tatum Bell [This guy's amazing. If he can get 20-30 carries a game, he'll be a super star before 08.]

15. Fred Taylor [see Tatum Bell, and add "If he can stay healthy".]

16. Laurence Maroney [The next Tiki Barber, but with dreads. B)]

17. Clinton Portis [He's great. Wait until he's healthy again. Gibbs is still his coach.]

18. Julius Jones [broke a personal record against Jacksonville's D. :o ]

19. Ahman Green [i think Gado is better, but he got traded. Damnit.]

20. Jamal Lewis [Looking good, but he still needs to show me consistency.]

21. Kevin Jones [Needs to be more consistent.]

22. Cadillac Williams [boo. Bring back the 05 model.]

23. Reggie Bush [100+ All purpose, 2nd string, amazing. Gary Kubiak is a moron.]

24. Edgerrin James [Looks like #### behind Arizona's weak line. Indy's line made him look better than he is.]

25. Jerious Norwood [Damn. Amazing. 10 carries, 66 yards, 2nd string.]

LTSA (will resume his dominance soon)Gore (for real)Tiki (GMen's line looks great. PPR might even end up higher)R Brown (solid even against a great D)FWP (will get TDs too)SJax (m'eh, just can't knowck him lower yet)Rudi (depends on palmer)LJ (not as talented without the dominant line)Dunn (finally getting some respect)Portis (missing games early and still hurting)Bush (will gradually take the lions share) McGahee (speed back)D Foster (will perform better than week 1)C Taylor (getting the rock)Dillon (will eventually give way to Maroney)Edge (will improve)Westbrook (may start losing touches)J Jones (MBIII is the backup, not 1/2 of the RBBC)K Jones (not sold on him yet)Caddy (dings hurt)T Jones (should be better)A Green (will lose carries)M Bell (the better Bell in DEN)Barlow (will get more carries and show improvement)

After just 1 week, dropping Lamont completely out of the top 25 could be a little of an overreaction.

He will probably do poorly again this week, but should recover nicely going into week 3.

LJ 6th = overreact. That was a game where nothing went right for the team and he STILL got almost 150 yds. More than ever, he appears to be all they have, so they will ride him. Still top 3 in my view.

Tiki's rank depends on how TD heavy your league is, as he may not see a single goal-line carry the whole season. Jacobs was a significant vulture last year, and that was when he was running upright. He now looks like an actual NFL RB, and even Tiki admits he will be the man in those situations. If your league has PPR or a cumulative yardage bonus like mine, he'll be top 5 still, but if it's more TD focused he could fall a little bit outside that mark.

FWP a bit too high, and this is coming from someone who has him. Ronnie should easily be above him, as should Westbrook as long as he plays 14+ games. Portis will also produce more PPG, though health is questionable. And Chester and Gore could also end up beating him, though that is more speculative.

I would rank Ronnie 5th above Tiki, were it not for the Suggs news. Now it's up in the air...

Willis should not be top 10. Still not much of a factor in the passing game, his YPC is still under 4, and it remains to be seen if he can get in the end zone more often.

Chester and Gore's rankings are premature but definitely possible. Both of these guys get all the carries, catch the ball, and have easy schedules. Chester's team figures to run the ball more due to being ahead, but Gore is easily more talented.

Caddy that low is overreacting, and Jordan outside top 25 is wrong (again, he gets all the carries).

Bush is another guy whose ranking depends on TD scoring, much like Tiki.

A Green (will lose carries)
He had about 20 carries last game, and the coaches have stated (1) they want to get Ahman Green more carries (link is somewhere in the A Green thread) and (2) they want to run more compared to the pass, than the past - aiming for 40 carries instead of 28, a game. What gives you the idea he will "lose" carries? And to whom? He will be rested like all backs, but if Green is healthy, he is their workhorse. It is a question of health and durability I think, not opportunity when healthy for Green.

Ok, Ill do a quick list of my top 25 right now.

1. LT2

2. S Alexander

3. LJ

4. Tiki

Man, its tough after that.

5. Rudi

6. R. Brown

7. S Jackson

8. Edge

9. Parker

10. McGahee

11. Portis

12. Dunn

13. Jamal Lewis

14. Westbrook

15. Ahman Green

16. Gore

16. F Taylor

17. Caddy

18. J Jones

19. R Bush

20. K Jones

21. Chester Taylor

22. D. Foster

23. L Jordan

24. T Jones

25. McCallister

I guess that would be it. Within the tiers you can definately interchange most guys, and some could definately be argued up or down. Its not a clear picture yet.

ETA: The next guys that definately could be argued on the last tier or two would be:

Maroney

Dillon

Droughns

Indy's line did not make Edge look better then he is. Edge is a great back in his own right. He may not finish in the top 10 backs this year, but that doesn't mean Edge isn't one of the best backs in the league.

Morency :) Regardless, he is an injury waiting to happen. Sorry if you own him, you will likely disagree, but he's had his time, age is catching up.

I can't imagine how BAD the guy is who was beaten out by Gallery in TC - that Shell is going to start now. Maybe too much, he'll have to get 380+ carries a game to come close to his ADP (not counting his missing receptions the guys in PPRs were counting on. I've got a guy trying to deal him in one league, but he's still looking for R1/2 value - I can't say I'd be happy w/ him as my RB2 right now, let alone my RB1.Week 3 is his bye. Maybe they can pull something together w/ a decent D, but I'd shop elsewhere.Again, food for thought here.

Interesting omission of both Bells. And the highest ranking of JLewis yet.

1. LT - All around best back in the league; a blast to watch.

2. Tiki - Strong, cohesive O-line, good offense. PPR rocket.

3. Rudi - Powered by amazing offense, bouyed by Palmer's return. Top notch O-line; TDs galore.

4. SJax - This is Jackson's make or break year as elite. I vote "make." Needs more aggression at stripe.

5. LJ - Superb talent; held back by Roaf's depature, Green's injury and mediocre coach. Too much pressure.

6. SA - Have trouble placing him at six, believe it or not. Too many forces working against him; Hutchinson's defection massive.

7. R Brown - Not sold yet; can't get excited about any game I've seen him play recently (saw all preseason games as well as Week 1) but a strong runner with an excellent coach who believes in the run.

8. Portis - The mysteries are getting old, but Portis proved last week how awesome he truly is, playing a as a backup and blazing into third gear to score a second quarter TD.

9. Dunn - This may be his last blaze of glory before Norwood cuts into worklaod, but there is no question Warrick Dunn is up to the task.

10. FWP - Still not sold but willing to give him this slot because he shows me more every week.

11. Gore - I love Gore. I do not love Gore's propensity for injury. Can't move him any higher.

12. McGahee - Despise Bills' offense. Too much talent to be denied when his heart is in the game. Seems to be the case in 2006 with contract standoff looming. Rosenhouse will be on the prowl in 2007.

13. Edge - Will never replicate Indy numbers. Does so much more for Arizona than play RB. Pure attitude, fortitude carry him to top-15 behind that line.

14. C Taylor - Still not abundantly impressed - lots of carries/touches to hit numbers last week. Solid offense, smart, offensive coach looking to make a point and great O-line.

15. LaMont Jordan - Calm down, people. Top10 back in sketchy offense. Expect strong rebound - week 4.

16. Bush - Want to push higher and will based on week-to-week consistency. All we expected.

17. Westbrook - Amazing athleticism, petrifying health. "Pass."

18. Cadillac Williams - Not thrilled about back woes, but they seem under control. Caddy needs the line to get well.

19. K Jones - "Grade Incomplete." Keeping an eye on KJ in this offense. Like the receptions last week.

20. J Jones - The job is his...until he gets hurt. Then we never hear from him again in Big D. Electric when healthy.

21. D Foster - I think Foster's underrated; he'll suffer until Smith's back to keep defenses honest. Need to solidfy LT position as well after Wharton injury.

22. T Bell - I thought it'd take a month; it took a week. Prepare for moderate lift-off. Still can't go 20 carries.

23. J. Lewis - Like what I saw last week, what I expect this week. Health is key. Could shoot up list week-to-week.

24. T Jones - Remember last year's commercial featuring Javon Kearse? "Tick-tock; tick-tock." TJ's a helluva back; Chicago's just got too much invested in Benson to let him rot.

25. A Green- I'll give this to Ahman as a reward for popping 100+ on the Bears. He who giveth, taketh away. Let's see Week 2 and proceed accordingly.

Outside looking in: Maroney/Dillon; Taylor; Norwood; McAllister.

Anyone interested in keeping this going moving forward (week 2 week?)

Good to see it took exactly one week for everyone to be reminded who the best back in the league is. No way would Johnson, Alexander, or anyone else on that list come close to LT's numbers in San Diego the last five years.

Perhaps no greater point made tonight. I never had LT any lower than #1. Matter of fact could have had LJ for LT in the preseason and declined.

As long as there are two Bells, in my book there are no Bells. I think Jamal has everything in line for a comeback player of the year type performance. And I dont own him in any leagues, just what I think. He and Ahman have some parallels (different as they are, running style wise). These aren't old guys yet and could very well have something left (I do own Ahman in a couple leagues).

Pretty good list. I am a McGahee owner and I don't view him as a top 10 RB. 17 is a pretty good spot for him.
