I agree. If the Cards are 15 out or something at the break, why wouldn't they shut him down and have the surgery? Other than annoying their fan base. But I suspect they'd understand. His elbow injury scares me. Not because it's going to affect his offensive production because he's been playing with it for a while. But he's probably going to need reconstructive surgery at some point in his career. If the Cards suck this year, it may be as good a time as any to shut it down early and get the joint taken care of.I'd take him if he's there near the end of the first but he's lower on the board than he's been in years.
Sigh...I don't think I would "gamble" on him either, however, I still think he's a top 10. Seems weird calling Pujols a gamble. Now that he's off the performance enhancers, his body is breaking down and his production will level out.
I have the 8th of 13 and I would not touch him eitherI have the 9th pick out of 14 (H2H), and I would not touch him.
Pretty sure that is the point of this entire thread.not too sure where i read this, but i believe that i read that Pujols said if his elbow hurts this year as much as it did last year, he wouldnt tough it out this time and instead would get surgery. So in a redraft, i dont think i would gamble on him at all.
But if he makes it to the turn of a 12 team draft, he's the elephant in the roomPretty sure that is the point of this entire thread.not too sure where i read this, but i believe that i read that Pujols said if his elbow hurts this year as much as it did last year, he wouldnt tough it out this time and instead would get surgery. I think you gotta take him once it gets to the point where he's way ahead of the pack if healthy. If it's close, I'll take the safe route. The nice part about roto baseball as compared to FF is that Pujols doesn't have to be there for the "playoffs". If he gives you 120 games of monster numbers and then shuts it down, he was still a good pick.I'd take him at the turn, no doubt. No doubt and I think it's based on individual projections. Seems like a lot of people may be getting scared off without having all the necessary information. At this point Pujols could be a guy who slips way too far and then outperforms projections. If you are drafting in the second round and he is still out there I think he could be the difference maker in the standings in a lot of leagues. Like you said 120 good Pujols games are worth more than a lot of top 50 players entire seasons if healthy.Spartans Rule said:I think you gotta take him once it gets to the point where he's way ahead of the pack if healthy. At the turn? He's way to valuable, I'd still take him with the 7th pick(which I hold in my keeper league)No way in hell he falls this farDoctor Detroit said:I'd take him at the turn, no doubt.Eephus said:But if he makes it to the turn of a 12 team draft, he's the elephant in the roomDoctor Detroit said:Pretty sure that is the point of this entire thread.awesomeness said:not too sure where i read this, but i believe that i read that Pujols said if his elbow hurts this year as much as it did last year, he wouldnt tough it out this time and instead would get surgery. If Pujols plays only 120 games, the games he missed would probably be due to his lingering injury which he played through all of last year. So if he plays 120 games through that same injury, then i dont see how his per game stats would change much if at all from last year. In which case i would rather have someone else especially in the top 2 rounds where i can get two top 15 or top 20 players with less risk.No doubt and I think it's based on individual projections. He had an off year by Pujols standards but he was still 8th in ML OPS in 2007. Even with his elbow, he's still more likely to repeat this level of performance than guys like Pena and Chipper.I really don't worry about him hitting; I worry about him shutting it down early. If Pujols plays only 120 games, the games he missed would probably be due to his lingering injury which he played through all of last year.
