The Reds Rotation (1 Viewer)

On The Rocks

Footballguy
Just wanted to bounce some thoughts around.

I like Harang. And everything I have read about Cueto this spring makes me think he is a stud.

I am not convinced Arroyo is anything more than a 10 game winner. He looked great making it through the lineups of the NL his first time around two years ago but he has looked very avg. at best since then.

Volquez has looked good this Spring but I can't imagine he is going to be an overnight sensation especially pitching at a launch pad like Great American Ball Park.

That leaves Belisle, Bailey and Fogg.

The Cincy Enquirer seems to have a daily change in who they think will round up the lineup. Right now they seem to like Fogg as the guy.

Is Belisle really that bad?

I think it will be interesting if they push Bailey to the pen. Do you think that is really an option?

I think Bailey will either start the seaon in AAA or in the pen....but I think by mid season he will be in the thick of the lineup along with Harang, Cueto and maybe Arroyo.

Thoughts?

is Cueto going to start the season in the rotation? sorry not anything to add just a question.
Baker hasn't made any specific guarantees about Cueto or Volquez being in the rotation, but it seems as if he has repeatedly hinted at their inclusion in the starting rotation.According to the Reds website today, "Baker has all but said that Cueto will begin the season in his rotation, but hasn't made it official. 'I don't want to squelch other guys and I don't want him to think he's got it made yet,' Baker said. 'I don't think he's that kind of young man, but I want to keep pushing him and keep him rolling.'

Several other reports have speculated that both Cueto and Volquez will be in the Reds starting rotation to start the season.

I really like everything I am hearing about Cueto and will be targeting him in all of my drafts.

Thanks for the reply! He isn't listed on Yahoo yet that I can see.

How do you pronounce Cueto? I want to draft him based on what I've read, but I want to say his name correctly. Is it "Cue-eh-toe" or "Quay-toe"?

Its QUAY-toe.I think it is down to Belisle and Fogg for the 5th spot. At this point, I think we can consider Cueto the 3 and Volquez the 4. If Belisle doesn't win the job, he'll still make the team as a reliever. As for what I think of the rotation, I think its as good as it has been in years. I think Harang is as consistent as they come these days and that Arroyo is a better pitcher than he showed last year. Volquez and Cueto both have great stuff and I think have the mental makeup to succeed sooner rather than later. Even Belisle is a decent option when you compare him to other team's 5th starters. With all that said, they're still playing in Cincinnati, where it will be very difficult to end with good pitching stats because of the ballpark. If they do what I think they can, they still may not be great fantasy options. However, they could be helping the Reds to a pretty solid season if anyone hits.

As a Bailey owner it hurts to say this but the kid just does not look ready - they are better off sending him down the 1st few months - I fully expect him to get called up by midseason though and hopefully help teams down the stretch - Fogg is a short term solution at best!

Cueto's got long term stud written all over him, but I think it'd be foolish to have high expectations this season. The kid's only pitched 22 innings of AAA. Whether he's starting the season in Natty or not he'd be best off pitching another month or two in Louisville, as sems to be what they're correctly going to do with Homer. Volquez has a low ceiling, but he may be ready for the rotation, I just wouldn't expect anything better than #4 or #5 numbers. Same goes for Fogg and Belisle except neither have much if any upside, but we all knew that. In the end Natty has a quality ace, a decent #3, two not terrible end of the rotation guys, two youngsters that aren't ready, and another young question mark that appears ready but has limited upside. Saying this rotation is average may not be incorrect, but it'd certainly be optimistic.

Volquez is such a tease, he should have a G-string full of ones everytime he goes out and pitches. This guy will disappoint when the games actually count.

Cuerto has pretty nice minor league numbers with WHIP and Ks

Should I drop Homer Bailey in a keeper league to pick up Cueto?

Bill Bray....he looked good for his second consecutive appearence yesterday.

I look at him as being pretty critical to the sucess of the pen.

When he came back late last year he looked solid....and he has been brought along slowly this spring due to more injuries.
