The Redskins will face their 6th straight winless opponent next week. (1 Viewer)

Noticed that this was possible a couple weeks back and it's actually happened now.

When they take on the Chiefs next week, the Redskins will be facing their 6th consecutive winless opponent:

Week 1 - Giants (0-0)

Week 2 - Rams (0-1)

Week 3 - Lions (0-2)

Week 4 - Buccaneers (0-3)

Week 5 - Panthers (0-3)

Week 6 - Chiefs (0-5)

That HAS to be some kind of record, no?

I also thought that it might be some sort of record that they have given 3 teams their first win of the season so far (Giants, Lions, Panthers) but then I discovered that the Bills actually have achieved that same feat this year (Patriots, Dolphins, Browns).

The winless portion of the Redskins schedule concludes after this week, so the largest number of "first wins" they can give up is 4.

The Bills actually have games against the winless Titans as well as the Chiefs, so they actually have the chance to give 5 teams their first win.

Any of the crack researchers out there know if there's ever been a team that gave so many teams their first win?

That's crazy. Maybe even crazier is that they need to win next week to salvage a .500 record against the winless masses.

Hrm, Peter King Reading My Posts?

Well if so, eat it Mr. King! My Bengals are 4-1 no matter how much you may hate them!

Of course King also has an opposite take to the one I have: he marvels that the 'Skins can still be 3-3 after playing this bad. I think it's just about inexcusable that they aren't 4-1 against this sked and looking for 5-1.

Maybe 4-1. That Week 1 opponent is looking pretty good. The rest? Scrub city. Then again, so are the Skins.

Seems the skins players don't agree with you."But it's not Jim. . . . I admire his character, and admire his will and strength. . . . But as a player, when you respect a coach like that, you have to come out and help him by winning games. We're not doing that."

The job status of the Redskins' second-year coach is expected to remain a topic of speculation as Redskins owner Daniel Snyder's team took another step in the wrong direction.

"You look at our schedule, or even if you watch the games, there are games we should have won, point blank. . . . But we didn't lose those games because of Coach Zorn. We've lost because we've had some things happen, we don't always execute the way we have to, but that's not on Coach Zorn. And now, we're getting banged up."

Zorn got dealt a bad hand. He should have never taken that job. Notice Shanahan wants nothing to do with that gig.

Fixed. Zorn may well be in over his head, but this comes down to a decade of front office neglect of the o-line. It's inexcusable that it is in its present state, even with the 2 injuries that they've had so far. Zorn is not the biggest problem here, nor is Campbell or any offensive player.

I think a new offensive system is exactly what Jason Campbell needs to finally become an elite QB.

Redskins are first in history to play six straight winless teams

By Chris Chase

If the Washington Redskins' schedule was any softer it would be on a package of Charmin. If the Redskins were a college team (which, at times, they resemble), pundits would mocking the team's strength of schedule.

As the great Joe Posnanski pointed out this morning on his blog, when the Redskins host the 0-5 Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday, it will mark the team's sixth consecutive game against a winless team. I'll repeat that because it doesn't sound as impressive the first time around: So far this season, every team the Redskins have played has been winless at the time of the game. According to STATS LLC, it's the first time in the history of the NFL that this has happened. The last team to have faced five winless teams was the 1954 Giants.

According to some quick math I did in my head my dad (whom I had to call to get help with the equation), the odds of this happening are 1 in 32,768. (Feel free to check this and let me know if our numbers are wrong.)

Here's the way the Redskins schedule has broken down so far, along with their opponent's record at the time:

Week 1 -- at New York Giants (0-0)

Week 2 -- vs. St. Louis Rams (0-1)

Week 3 -- at Detroit Lions (0-2)

Week 4 -- vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-3)

Week 5 -- at Carolina Panthers (0-3 -- Note: Carolina had a week 3 bye)

Week 6 -- vs. Kansas City Chiefs (0-5)

Obviously, the Giants were winless because they had yet to play a game. Since then, the Redskins have faced the dregs of the NFL but could only muster a 2-2 record against them. (Which is pretty much all the evidence one should need to pass judgment on the future of Jim Zorn.)

New York excepted, the current combined record of the rest of the 'Skins opponents is 2-22, with the only two wins coming against the Redskins themselves (by Detroit and Carolina). After Sunday, last place Washington will have faced every of their last place peers in the NFC, as well as one in the AFC too.

The streak will end in week 7 when the Redskins host the Philadelphia Eagles, a team with a whopping three wins to its credit thus far.
