How in the hell does "Dr. Z" still have a job? That guy is wrong on his predictions 97% of the time!
That's because he usually only picks the tough games and doesn't bother to pick games like, for example, Colts over Cardinals. The guy still has a job because he is one of the very, very few columnists that actually watches tape and breaks it down, instead of just making assumptions, buying into hype, and drawing conclusions based on statistics and popular media opinion. He tapes the games, watches them, re-watches them, and fills up notebook after notebook with his observations and analyses. In a world of Pete Priscos, Skip Baylesses, and Ron Borgeses, Zimmerman is a columnist that knows what he's talking about because he actually takes the time to watch the games and form his own intelligent opinions. His books "The Thinking Man's Guide to Pro Football" and his 1984 update of that book, "The New Thinking Man's Guide to Pro Football" are widely considered the best analytical books ever written about the game.If Zimmerman were fired from SI today, he'd have every other media outlet in the country banging on his door with offers within minutes. That's how he still has a job.

How many incarnations is this thread title (3 & counting) going to go through?
Next should be:How I learned to stop worrying and love The Sporting News
nope, it will be "how to get Big Score and Construxboy to whine"I editted the title to reflect the thread. Something that I'd recomend for a few threads that don't match the title.

Does anyone remember when TSN bought up smallworld? That was the only time I was getting TSN weekly. You would pwn the chumps on the fantasy leagues there and they'd send you free subscriptions. Their :bowtie: content was worlds better than anyone else, but beyond that it was pretty boiler plate.

They just never could get the model where you give your innnernets content away for free and charge for the mag.

RIP

Didn't mean to hurt your feelings OZ. Sorry 'bout that. The thread title changing three times just tickled me, is all.

Ditto.  I never went out and bought it but, for some reason I'm getting it free and It's nice to have around....... I have a little wait each day at the train and for a weekly read its got a good story or two and some nice NFL tidbits... Also gives you a little glimpse at college stuff (football / basketball).....

i signed up for the free one year subscription they were giving to the antsports list. it's been more than a year and it keeps coming. guess they are trying to keep the subscriber numbers up. guess i shouldn't complain given i'm not paying, but about 1 in 3 times it comes with the cover at leas partially ripped off ---pretty flimsy, but i guess it keeps costs down.

What's a little joke between ifriends?frankly, one of my pet peeves is threads that don't discuss what the title or original post indicate. Most often it happens with a news piece followed by FF trade talks (Jimmy Smith retires... "I got Ernest Wilford!!!") :wall:

I own almost every issue from 1970 to present. While it is a good magazine, it is nowhere as good as when the Spink family owned it. Too much Nascar and not enough Hockey for me.

And I did help cause that hijak, so sorry. I agree with you on the annoyance.
