The Texans Backfield (1 Viewer)

How do you see the Texans RB situation playing out? Mixon's injury sounds long-term, Chubb is over the hill, Pierce has been a disappointment since his rookie year and Marks is a total unknown.

Are you nabbing any of these guys in hopes they take over RB1 duties?

For me...the only one I'd bet on would be Pierce. He simply may have just been a bad schematic fit with Slowik. Same time...I'll be sitting at the $10 minimum table with this one.

I think all of these guys are worth a swing given the price. If you love your backs, no sense mucking around with this group. Limited ceiling behind a bad O-line. If your backfield feels shaky, I think it's worth taking a look at least for the first week or two.

I lean Pierce because he's still on waivers in some of my leagues and have been surprised by how far Chubb's name has gotten him in some of these re-drafts. I'm skeptical that what has happened since Pierce's rookie year is only about scheme, but I have been more than happy to pretend this is the case handling his dynasty rights for the past three years. To be fair, this guy has shown flashes (most notably, week 18) when given a workload.

I'm team Pierce as a very late/free flyer, he was a square peg in a round hole ever since his rookie season. The key to Pierce is the change to the power gap run scheme, this is the same system the Texans ran during Pierce's rookie season. They actually switched to that scheme later last year, the one game Pierce got touches he ran for 176 yards.

I have three in one league after waivers due to injuries yesterday. No one seemed available so I thought welp let's see who looks good from Houston.

I think I can make an argument that any of them can become the lead back

Bad O-line and no clear cut starter. Chubb gets the first crack at the job, but expectations are very low. Woody Marks is at least somewhat intriguing, as he could carve out a lasting role, but he hasn't shown he is starter worthy. Pierce brings younger and healthier legs than Chubb, but not the vision or experience. It is difficult to have any confidence in the Houston backfield right now. I would absolutely LOVE to see a bounce-back season from Chubb, but I am doubtful it will happen. As with his former Bulldog teammate Todd Gurley, knee injuries have derailed his career.

I've grabbed as much Marks as I possibly can. For his price there is basically no risk. He looked really really good in the preseason. They moved a future 3rd in part of the deal to move up to get him in the mid 4th of what many have called the deepest RB draft since 2017. I think he is more talented than any of the RBs on the roster today, noting that I would never have said that re:Chubb 2 years ago but I just don't think he is the back he used to be and the Texans are going to very very quickly run him into the ground. Pierce is a JAG journeyman that can play football and fill a role. Mixon is done.

IMHO they really want Marks to be that guy but even if I'm right about him being the most talented RB on the roster today, he is still a rookie and it doesn't mean he has the most knowledge NOR ability on the team. That is different than talent. For example, the notion of playing fast due to the complicated and challenging nature of the game... well rookies may or may not be able to do that and you might want the slower or worse vet simply because they know where to be and when etc.

My sense is they're going to give Marks as much run as he can handle. I have zero faith any of the rest of them are worth rostering let alone starting beyond maybe these first couple of weeks.
