The Three Stooges (1 Viewer)

Begrudgingly, I am going to see the movie, as my kids want to see it.

If it does nothing else except get them interested in watching the old shorts, my work is done.

Not sure of the episode, but remember watching curly eating a bowl of clam chowder where there was a live clam shooting soup into his face.

Toss up for "Moe, Larry, the cheese" and the "cat's meow" skit where they are in an Arab country and everyone things Larry is cutting up a dog and a cat to make a hot dog and burger.

Moe, Larry, the cheese (I was referring to a different episode where Curly is a fighter in a ring, but this is a similar skit):

Curly(like an apple) "if at first you don't succeed, keep sucking until you do succeed"

"Super Service"- from where they are working at gas station. Me and brother always say this, but pretty sure no one else has every gotten the reference when we use it.

Curly singing when cooking, Conan always does this on his show during cooking segments.

I have the Stooges "Golf with your friends" poster framed.

I think it's one of the ones where they try to make the guys nto gentlemen. At one point, Moe says to Larry and/or Curly, "Mingle or I'll mangle."
That line and the way he says "Spread Ouuut!" as he enters a room with Larry and Curly just destroys me.

The fire station one is classic. All the other firemen respond to a call while Moe-Larry-Curly sleep right thru the fire alarm. Later, Curly goes outside to unroll a firehose but rolls it onto the streetcar tracks, which right away comes by & chops up the hose into pieces. Curly then picks up the pieces and neatly stacks them back in the fire station like nothing happened.

I love the ones based upon Pygmalion/My Fair Lady where a few snooty upper crust types try to convert the boys to gentleman.

"Hoi Polloi" was the first one I remember - apparently one of the more violent episodes.

The episode where curly is a boxer and everytime pop goes the weasel plays he goes off. Could be Larry Fine's Finest moment. When he is running down the street knocking people over, then steals the truck. Pure Genius.
 Maniacal genius.
:goodposting: I didn't know this until now:

"In 2002, Punch Drunks was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant", the only Stooge film to achieve such an honor."

There was one where Curly starts panicking and whining "I CAN'T SEE, I CAN'T SEE!" so Moe inquires "Why not?" and Curly exclaims "Because I got my eyes closed!!!"

Moe proceeds to bop Curly.

I loved Moe. The guy just didn't take any #### from anyone and handled his business.

Moe to Curly: "pick out two" (fingers)Curly: "one, two".Moe: :pokey: His scowl was the goods.

This episode has always been near and dear to me and my brothers. Just so many little things that made us laugh. Larry's look around when he steals the radio. Curly's finish when he is looking/walking at camera at the end. Larry after tuning his violin before big fight makes this face, i love it when a comedian can make me laugh with just a look. Moe telling the girl not to worry about him, he won't get hurt in fight. Maybe the only episode the stooges did not know each other in (at the beginning). Larry working for a bowl of soup, if he's good. I could go on and on. I can see why this got those accolades from the NFR.

Freeze at 8:50 and check out the audience!
I'm just re-watching this at lunch - great stuff.Other golden moment in the second part of the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=7kdVzRdUiF4&feature=endscreen (5:15 mark) - the other fighter spits into the spitoon, and then they go over to Curly, who talks into the spitoon like it's a phone.

I don't really have favorite episodes as much as I have favorite parts of episodes.

When the carts start rolling down the hill in Three Little Beers is one of my favorite parts:

Start the link at about the 5 minute part for this scene:

Another scene I liked but don't know the episode was when they were about to be hanged and Curly sees a mouse and flips out and goes crazy and knocks everyone out.

Watching the Stooges this morning there is en episode the I've never seen.

Uncivil War Birds

It's almost bizarro Stooges .Dixie instead of 3 Blind Mice ,crazy southern accents , the boys in blackface , very strange dialogue

Moe : "Brother , you just ejaculated a mouthful" :oldunsure:

I don't remember the episode. They're walking into some high society party. A guy meets them at the door and says, "Gentlemen..."

The stooges all look around and say, "Who came in?" I quote that one all the time when greeted that way.

I never saw that one either, and when I was really into the Stooges, I saw every episode. I'm thinking that this one was never shown on television (at least in my market) due to the controversial subject matter (blackface).

Stooges were always on TV after school when I was growing up & thought I saw the entire catalog

You Nazty Spy! should also be recognized. It was the first film (although just a short subject film) to satirize Hitler and help bring attention to what was going on there.

ETA; Moe was the first American actor to play Hitler in a movie.

I used to think it was strange that the Stooges were doing Hitler spoof given that most of their work in the late 30's. Never looked up the timeline of when they made that short (Jan 1940) until just now. I had just assumed that most anti-Hitler outrage didn't happen until 1942 or later.

I also found it interesting and sad to hear how badly the studios screwed them over. They were mega superstars but the studios told them the movies were flopping so they could pay them squat. Different era for sure.

Other trivia:

Joe (who replaced Shemp later on) did the voice of Babu in the animated series I Dream Of Jeannie.

That's a pretty hot chick and some weird stuff for a kids show.
