Also I get a very cultish vibe when I go there, especially in the south when I am bombarded with “my pleasure” in response to any request

Can I get some extra ketchup?
“My pleasure “

No matter how they are cut, they need to be crispy enough to hold their shape, but not be crunchy like a cracker, and they need to be fluffy inside still.

Once we meet that criteria, if I have enough space to drag it through ketchup I do like a good waffle fry.
I think chik fila makes a good waffle fry
opposite. i have never liked my waffle fries from chic-fil-a

The ones in the big can are more like a thick and super salty version of a potato chip.

Let's be fair - these are in the potato chip related family and shouldn't be seriously considered for this poll. Where I grew up these were always labeled and routinely called potato stix. I did look up some images and saw that one brand did call them "shoestring potatoes/fries" which was a surprise.

Shoestring fries are thinner than McDonalds regular fries

AI answer:
No, McDonald's fries are not considered shoestring fries. McDonald's fries are a thicker, "thin-cut" style, often referred to as "World Famous Fries". While they are crispy and golden, they are wider than the typical shoestring fry.

Shoestring fries, by definition, are very thin and slender, often resembling a string, and are fried until very crispy. McDonald's fries, while thin, are not as narrow as shoestring fries. For a more precise comparison, consider the following:

In essence, McDonald's fries are a distinct style of fast-food fry that is not the same as shoestring fries.

I find them pretty bland IMO. That's the example I give when I rightfully claim that waffle fries are inferior to regular fries. Chik Fil A is incredibly overrated and their fries are part of the problem.
I've only had their fries twice, but both times I got a single waffle fry that was undercooked and raw. Even the ones that were cooked were mediocre

growing up, i called that potato snack "matchstick."

my sweet spot is between McDonald's and shoestring (though still called a larger shoestring).

I used to make a hand cut sweet potato waffle fry (gaufrettes) for one of my ahi appetizers back in 02ish.

Same. I rarely if ever order a meal from there because of this. Double up on the nuggets or 8 nuggets + sammich. Save those ratchet *** waffle fries for folks who have the palate of a cow's backside.

i don't really like going there anyway. very over-rated imo. i'll go if the daughter and mrs want to

Guy Fieri’s restaurants (which suck but is in the Cancun airport so yeah) serves a very good fry that’s just a mix of like the different kinds and that’s a great idea. More places should so that.
I never eat at that airport. I always wait till I get on the plane. But I do like the free Patron tequila shots as you enter from the duty free store.

It’s usually more of a way to kill time while waiting for the flight than anything

Love the chain, hate the fries
Chic fil a has a good business model. Service has always been good. The chicken sandwiches do not stand out to me vs their competitors, and for me, there are probably 5-6 ff places I would rather have (some providing options beyond chicken).

As for the topic, I have never had chic fil a waffle fries crispy. Very flat and probably my least favorite ff fried potato.

But hey Yubu

Chick fil A seems to elicit strong feelings one way, or the other. Politics maybe? All i know is my teenage daughter is on a mission to try all the chicken places, and her gold standard is Chick Fil A.

I had to go out and get fries on Saturday because of this thread.

See, I'm not really a fan of this style where the fry exterior is pretty brown like that. These kind of fries are usually pretty limp or soggy and lack that second fry to crisp them up. Still better than anything waffle or crinkle though.
Sir - these fries were not limp or soggy.

This was at Lazy Dayz near moda center.

I am Irish so I like them ALL to be honest

-Crinkle Cuts when done right are one of my favs, they hold salt and ketchup in the ridges better than almost any other french fry
-Steak fries somehow seem a little healthier than others, I typically just cut up a fresh potato at home when I want these and put them in the oven

"Hand Cut" is a bogus sub genre. Even when hand cut it typically lands under steak fries as an example, I would not have added that one but it's a good list.
