The Top 164 (166) Movies of the 21st Century. We have some morning drinking going on. (22 Viewers)

Jack Black who typically annoys me.
he does, which is why I've never watched it. Although, I've said that I liked the 2005 King Kong and he was in that but I don't really remember him doing his normal thing.
Still a horrible miscasting.
Yeah that was really poor casting. That whole movie was a debacle. Crazy as it is, Jack Black is one of the biggest most recognizable and bankable movie stars in the world right now. Which I have to blame the kids for that. Minecraft and those Mario movies.

#93: THE DARK KNIGHT - 48PTS

#53 on 80s' list

double life, parent issues, Oscar winner
You expected all of us to have seen this. I haven’t. Zero interest in superhero movies.
I still think it's worth seeing. I don't watch Avengers or Guardians of the Galaxy or whatever the Snydercut is but I've always liked Batman and Christopher Nolan is master. Ledger's performance and the big action set pieces are worth seeing. But if you have a no hard no superheroes rule then it's hard to argue against that.

144 - FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL
140 - OPPENHEIMER
139 - GONE GIRL
124 - PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN
118 - ANCHORMAN
117 - BLADERUNNER 2049
116 - THE REVENANT
113 - EDGE OF TOMORROW
109 - SICARIO

would have all of these higher.

Oppenheimer, Revenant and Edge of Tomorrow are all top 30 for me.

I am surprised by how pro-Revenant FBGs are. You guys all love that one.

Not quite a 1:1 as far as humor goes, but I feel like Black and Ferrell are this eras version of Sandler and Jim Carrey. In a bunch of stuff, more a goofy lean that kids like, adults often don't think they are funny.. Both of them are all over a bunch of monster hits from the era.

Its' the Leo man-crush. They couldn't admit their love during the Romeo + Juliet and Titanic days . ;)

Edge of Tomorrow is automatically dismissed by many because it stars Tom Cruise, but it's a great SciFi IMHO.

Top 20 SciFi all time for me.

Oppenheimer's low ranking I get. It's long and probably a bit too boring for most. I loved the subject matter and director, so it uniquely fit my interests.

I was mostly sort of joking about everybody seeing all of them, but I understand the superhero angle. More I expected this one to get the Raiders of the Lost Ark treatment and have people grumbling that it's not higher or that it was only on one of our lists. I think we will see more and more of those grumbles as we go, though.

As far as Dark Knight - it is another damn good movie that had to get left off. The truth is for me, the reason to watch it is Ledger, and that is not enough of a reason to watch it. It is maybe the 5th or 6th Nolan movie I would reach for to watch and I am not sure where it would rank in my superhero movies either (I weirdly think Batman Begins is a better overall movie for example) To me it's not the length of the movie, but I do think they made a mistake getting Two Face in there as well as Joker, and I don't like the 2nd half near as much as the first half. Batman are the only DC movies worth watching, but there are a couple Marvel movies I'd probably watch over it and maybe a couple random ones, but not sure. Since my son got older, I haven't bothered watching any superhero movies and don't have the impulse to get my daughter into them. Watching these Star Wars movies has been torture enough and there is only 7-8 of these to get through.

It just seemed to get lost in the mix for some reason when it came out. It was a slow spot in his career, there was the weird thing where they changed the name of it too. It just didn't find an audience until a few years later. Weird to say this about a Tom Cruise action movie but its kind of a cult film.

If I see Joker on this list, I swear I'll 🤮
I was only 1/2 serious when I told 80s that Dark Knight was one I was eyeing to replace, but it would have just to stir the pot and get the crowd going. DK is deserving to be on the list, but I said if I did I would have maybe switched to a Spiderman or Winter Soldier. Then I said the ultimate troll would be switching it for Joker.

It really is, and seemed to catch on much more post-release. I also liked seeing Cruise being the slippery worthless guy at the start trying not to get in the action. Sure, he turns into being awesome at everything because of the time loop, but I dig that turn at the start of the movie.

Yeah, I actually think it helped Cruise revive his brand some in many circles...it's that good.

I honestly don't know if you are saying that is a good or a bad thing.
I like the movie though I care much much less than you do about who directs a movie. I know that you said that its just about knowing that you'll get a quality movie by X director and yea, mostly. I also agree with whoever said it was just a noir with an established superhero.

I do like superhero movies though. I generally think the "its a superhero movie, it can't be good!" is some nonsense.

Dark Knight is not nearly as good as people claim it is. Ledger as the Joker is, and some of the action scenes are truly awesome for sure. IMO it's more about operating in the 'superhero' genre and the set of low expectations that helps make this look like an amazing movie. It would surprise me if people our age grabbed this over other action movies of the era or even other action franchises from this time. It also surprises me when people still read comics and graphic novels, so what do I know. We love what we love.

I am surprised KP didn't have it at all. I figured having in the 80s would leave me looking low on it. And I love it to be clear. Saw it in theaters. Bought it when it came out, thought it was damn near as good on rewatch.

I do too, and be clear that's not MY point. I was surprised how good many of them are, and did like watching a lot of them when my kid was into Marvel. More what I am saying is that I think of them more as starter action movies for teens, and I am surprised that people are age would watch them on their own over something like a MI movie, new Bond, John Wick, Bourne, whatever. There are so many great action movies and franchises that one doesn't have to get that from the superhero subgenre. That is probably my aversion to GCI coming into play as well. They are just not anything I have thought much about or having the desire to return to since we plowed through all of them up to Infinity War.

I did not, but it's in that DK zone of being my 5th-7th favorite Nolan movie. I don't like him that much to have 5+ movies of him on my list. I get my Nolan fix elsewhere.
