[Rec] I have seen multiple time and still fear getting to the last 10-15 mins. It starts slow, and is about a Spanish reporter staying at a firehouse for interviews when **** hits the fan.
I still have 7 more horror movies on my list. I watch a lot of them on my own, so they drifted to the top of my list. It is the last (only) found footage, so i will do a mini-list of those soon too. I am fan of the subgenre, but there are plenty of landmines too. They are the ones most likely to scare me.
I don't know if I've ever seen a found footage horror movie. Blair Witch was on at someone's house in HS or college but I remember hating the shaky camera stuff and just kind of writing it off as sucking but I honestly don't think I really paid attention enough to it to make a quality assessment. I was just kind of a db and was like "it's just a stupid marketing ploy, none of this is actually real".

I despise found footage movies. Lowest form of movie making IMO

not sure there’s ever been one I liked. Granted I tend to avoid them

Cloverfield is pretty good.

Wall-e maybe.

There are some legit good superhero movies but they won't make the list since KP has a wierd adversion to them and cgi.

Train to Busan
I listed a few i really liked, but my action leans elsewhere for sure. I probably wouldn't watch one myself, which is what my list was mostly about, and if i did, it would be odd ones like Kick-***, Super, or Watchmen. Iron Man, Spidey, Batman, and Cpt America were my favorite "normal" ones. I don’t like the DC movies or the spacey Marvel ones- GotG, Thor.

I am more likely to imagine myself in the situation vs a slick bigger budget horror, that's why the good ones really get to me. The best ones also have a decent reseaon the camera is there.

Sounds like you need to try one in Oct! I might have some suggestions for you. ;)

it would be odd ones like Kick-***, Super, or Watchmen. Iron Man, Spidey, Batman, and Cpt America were my favorite "normal" ones
most of those were good and better than deathgasam
Maybe, but i watch horror and horror/comedy waaaay more than action.
I know and I think that's fine. There are some very very good ones that we both like and will make this list. Well at least 2. I dunno if you like Zombieland as much as I do.

Rules. I haven't cried that hard since Titanic.

Although, it was heartwarming when Bill Murray admitted that Garfield was terrible.

Yeah I get it from a realism standpoint but I find them gimmicky and hard to watch

#72: ADAPTATION - 61PTS

#40 on ilov80s' list
Not just one Nick Cage but two!
you say that like its a good thing
He's a polarizing guy and I get it, but when he's in the right role, I love him. He's such a weirdo.
The longer the hair, the worse the movie.

#38 on KP's list
This should have been on everyones list
I struggle with QT and I had anywhere from 0 to 3 of his movies on my list at any time. For this one the positives outweighed the negatives by a lot. There are a few scenes in this movie I would say are some of the best of the century, starting with the opening. His love of the silly shlocky violence will never click, and there are actors he likes to work with that I think are terrible. Now that I know it's coming and understand a little more where he is coming from with his nods to old movies, I seem to tolerate parts like the theater shooting a little more on rewatches.

I was just failing to make a joke but I like a fair amount of Cage movies. Other than the 2 (or 3) big ones from the 90's, I did think the National Treasure movies were decent and Gone in 60 seconds was a fun film. Never even knew Windtalkers was so not liked but I liked it so figures.

It avoids the missteps that make me cringe a bit with some of his other movies but I think you are right, the ending doesn't quite land fully for me. The best parts of the movie are the opening famr sequence and the bar scene. The rest of it isn't quite on the same level.

I don't cringe at any of his films that I've seen other than the Hateful Eight---huge disappointment. Very little of his witty dialogue mixed with his usual gratuitous violence. I can take the latter with the former, but not without. Not to mention that the majority of that gratuitous violence was aimed at the JJL character. I actually really disliked this movie.

As for Inglourious Basterds, I agree that the theater scene near the end was some revisionist history that was indulgent and not necessary.

Like 80's, I think the opening scene (one of my favorites ever) and the bar scene are fantastic. The strudel scene, and many of the others, elevate this movie into my top 100. Not to mention Christoph Waltz's performance throughout.

#71: LOST IN TRANSLATION - 62PTS

#39 on ilov80s' list.
This is in my top 20. I don't have a single criticism. This is the one that should be on everyone's list. This is Bill Murray's best performance IMO. Scarlett Johannson is, well...also great. The soundtrack is awesome.

If you dislike this movie, I'm switching to beer.

yes but it's not like his films are meant to be historical
My gripe is that often the endings and the violence don't fit most of the rest of the movie. The tone is off for me when it happens. It sticks out to me more on the movies I do like, which is why I had trouble deciding where to rate his movie. IMO, movies like Django have a different feel to them at the start than Basterds does.

I am one of the few people who did not see the Lord of the Rings movies. As with superheroes, I have zero interest in that kind of stuff.

I did see the Harry Potter movies because my wife made the whole family watch them while she was reading the books to our son.

It was captivating. I was so invested in those characters.

You know, fightin' in a basement offers a lot of difficulties. Number one being, you're fightin' in a basement!

I don't mind the theater scene. It's absurd but...welcome to Tarantino.
I didn't have any issue with the historical element of it necessarily. I just really walk away from that movie thinking about 2 scenes. They are 2 of the best scenes he's ever filmed but the rest of the movie doesn't grab me the same way.

It's a very long watch if not interested. But like I said, I am not into that stuff. My dad tried to get me to read the books as a kid, nope. But I did see the movies because my GF at the time liked the books and was really excited about it. We broke up before Two Towers came out but I was interested enough at that point to see that last 2 movies with my dad. He loved them so there is a personal connection there for me as well.

Here's the extent of mt fantasy interested
Original LOTR trilogy (never saw any of the Hobbits or whatever)
Game of Thrones (last couple seasons sucked but the first 5 or 6 were incredible)
Willow
Sword in the Stone
