Phil Knell apparently holds the single season record with 54 and is over 13 in front of 2nd, but that was in 1891

If you cut the list to the last 80 years or so, the top 2 are Tom Murphy (1969) and Kerry Wood (2003) with 21.

Joba is pretty much known at this point around most of the other big baseball cities as a punk who likes to hit people when he gets cranky. Please tell me even the NY fans realize this?

As for AJ Burnett, I have no idea. I've been to a lot of games in other cities this year but haven't heard anything about him being as hated.
 Where do you hear this nonsense? From Kevin Youkilis? Here is his game log

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...p;t=p&year=

In games where he's hit a batter he has an ERA of 2.85. In games where he hasn't hit a batter he has an ERA of 4.63.

Shall I post my ownage smilie or should somebody else??

I don't understand. You're answering my question by posting his stats from games where he's hit someone? It's like you're answering someone elses question.Your name is JOBARULES on a football message board. Take his rod out of your rear for a second.

You remember the whole Aubrey Huff/Joba incident earlier this year? That was Baltimore. This isn't just a Boston thing. Joba is not well liked, Joba leads the league in hits batsmen. Where is your ownage? lol. I'd call that premature ejaculation.
Huh? He didnt hit Huff. Huff mimiced his fist pump. If you wanna call him a punk cuz of his fist pump thats one thing but he doesnt have the reputation as a headhunter unless your name is Kevin Youkilis. You said he likes to hit people when hes cranky. What do you mean by that? Do you mean he gets cranky by waking up on the wrong side of the bed one day? Or do you mean hes cranky because he is not pitching well in that game? Because I have clearly proven that most of his hit batsmen come in games he is pitching well which disproves your cranky point.

Honestly I dont know what your point was. Sometimes I think you try to incite arguments by making stupid points (like the Yankee bullpen point you made in the Yankee thread).

I thought Girardi pulled a bush league move in Spring Training before he coached his first game with Yanks...so it wouldn't surprise me if he was quick to ask his guys to send a message.

How is he perceived in NY in that regard?

What move are you talking about?I will admit this Yankee team seems to retaliate more than the Torre led teams.

His fist pump irritates alot of people and hes had some highly publicized press about beanballs vs Boston. But outside of Boston I didnt think he had a reputation as a punk maybe a bit arrogant.

Yeah I guess technically the words headhunter didnt come out of your mouth. I guess you meant something else with this comment.
I have a completely different definition of a headhunter dude. You need to stop jumping to conclusions. Hitting people in the hip, elbow, back which Joba does when he gets cranky, is not head hunting.

2 way different things, and I'm surprised you even made the jump like that.
Again please explain what you mean here? When does he get cranky?

Not sure what kind of explanation you're looking for. When is he cranky? Whenever he seems cranky I guess. :blackdot:
:diamond: OK I guess only you know when hes cranky.

I think if you got outside of NY, you'd find the perception to be much different.Do you watch MLB Network at all? For the most part unbiased guys who never have a kind thing to say about Joba. I believe after Joba made that diving catch 2 month ago and then spun around and yelled with his fists pumping Mitch Williams said over the clip "Punk". And it's no secret he's no fan of the Red Sox either.
I watch MLB Network a lot. I dont remember any negative opinions about Joba. I guess Ill need to watch more often. I do know they have talked about the bullpen vs starter thing ad nauseum.

I know you said you are not a Sox fan but you dont think there is any chance your views are a tiny bit biased by the news and vies of the people that surround you?

:hophead: You claim not to care yet you're in the threads all the time..

If I didn't care, I'd NEVER be in the team threads.....

Seems like you're on some mission to help prove that the Yankees and Sox have excitable, boisterous, fanatical fans....

Good job, with your help, the word is spreading, it's Finally catching on

Sending the goon spikes first into a Japanese 2nd-basemen's chest, to retaliate for a 160-pound reserve outfielder trying to make the team injuring his catcher during a collision at home.

:hophead: the goon. Perfect description for Duncan. Not sure if that was Girardi's call or DUncan did it on his own but it wouldnt shock me if it was the manager's call & yes Id agree that's bush league.

It is well established within real baseball circles that Joba is an underachieving punk. No one likes the guy.

NO ONE

 I have a hard time determining what's justified and what isn't in baseball these days...there are so many unwritten rules. But it did seem odd that Girardi of all people was upset about a play at the plate.I think in general baseball players and managers have the maturity of 12-year-olds.

I'm thrilled that the Yanks are finally getting a reputation as protectors of the hitters. In fact, I don't even mind so much when they are the instigators. Doesn't hurt to be known around the league as a team that won't take #### from anybody. Too often, the Mussinas and Pettittes of the team would fail to back up the big guys. I also blame Torre a lot for that. I had to laugh last night watching Baseball Tonight when John Kruk was talking about how he knows the Dodgers coaching staff and if someone had hit Manny, there'd have been retaliation. I was like, what the hell is this idiot talking about?!? Joe Torre NEVER retaliated from what I saw.

Second, Joba's got a reputation amongst non-Yankee fans as something of a punk. And as a Yankee fan, that is a fairly apt characterization in my opinion. Not saying he IS a punk, just that he could easily be seen as such with his antics and theatrics and propensity to hit guys, etc. I'm admittedly not the biggest Joba fan in the world and I can see how fans of other teams would absolutely hate the guy's guts.

That being said, Mitch Williams is the biggest moron ever allowed onto a baseball set so if he called Joba a punk that actually hurts the debate. It actually seems as if Williams really knows nothing about the game. He tries to be funny and isn't, thinks he makes original, genius points when in reality it's either old news or makes no sense, etc, etc. I can't STAND him.

:goodposting: :bag: For far too long Torre's Yankees ate #### without giving it back....

No. What we realize is his MAJOR effing issue is throwing 100+ pitches in 5 innings. Know why? He loses control and tries to get cute around the corners. This leads him to plunking people. He loses control.
As for AJ Burnett, I have no idea. I've been to a lot of games in other cities this year but haven't heard anything about him being as hated.
Fairly certain Burnett leads all of MLB in wild pitches. /argument.

To Michaels point. I'm actually Happy that Joba is such a punk. It's good for baseball to have such a polarizing figure on the leagues top team in my opinion. It gives us something to watch for, someone to root against, something to talk about. I like it. As far as Mitch Williams goes, that's neither here nor there was just making a point that it isn't just Sox fans that think Joba is a punk. I think Harold Reynolds at one point said something to agree with Mitch that night about Jobas rep but I honestly don't remember for sure.
About Mitch W, I hear ya...I mostly just wanted to use the opportunity to spew my hatred for him. Pretty sure from watching that he drives HR mad as well. How Reynolds deals with him, I have no idea. And I don't mind seeing Joba as a hated guy, the enemy. It's more fun to win when everyone else hates your guys anyway (86 Mets as a prime example...have any fans EVER had more fun rooting for a team than Met fans in the mid-80's?).

Thanks for clearing this up for me. I've read this whole thread thinking it was "joba drools".. which is WAAAAY more accurate.Yes, he is a classless punk. Right at home...

The reason Joba has bad games is because he's not pumped up enough. If he did fist pumps after every thrown strike than he'd be a hall of famer imo.

I think you were owned by Jobarules when he showed the stats about Joba pitching better in games he actually hits someone. I dont think you could of meant anything else except he hits people when he is pitching bad.

for the record, i hate the yankees and Joba

^^^Hitting a guy or not hitting a guy doesn't directly apply to pitching better or worse in a game. The two are not linked by any means. So no.You typically will plunk a guy when you're in NO trouble at all because it would be stupid to do so in a game where you are getting shelled.Joba Rules is actually making my point for me with those stats.
So he gets cranky when he's pitching well? Weird

He seems to be pretty cranky regardless of the situation. Guy needs some medication seriously.
So then saying he hits guys when he's cranky is a dumb comment because according to you hes always cranky. You mightve well said he hits guys when hes white.
