In my various circles of friends, in the mid-00s, no gathering went by without at least one reference to a Chappelle’s Show character or sketch. It was hilarious and broke boundaries. And those first two seasons still hold up even though we know now that Dave is a weird and somewhat problematic dude.

There are two cliches you often hear from consumers about artists like Chappelle:

1. "I separate art from the artist"
2. "Most brilliant artists are troubled/problematic"

I'm too old, too lazy, and too much of a hypocrite to parse every artist's set of values. I'll never attend one of Chappelle's shows or order a PPV, but that doesn't mean I don't find him hilarious.
Wow. You guys talk like he's Bill Cosby.

Guess he's right, he has basically been cancelled for telling "offensive" jokes about the untouchables.

He’s doing pretty well for someone who’s been “cancelled.” He had another big Netflix special last year, hosted SNL in January and won his sixth Grammy for best comedy album last month.
Huh, I didn't know that was a thing.

There was no insinuation of any of that and you’re either gaspingly hyper-sensitive or just good with straw men.

And considering I barely knew who Chappelle was but read an article from the front page of a magazine at the grocery store to hear about him leaving this show that was a phenomenon I had until then not known about, then yes, I’m going to assume that ignorance of his controversial self before the transgender thing does mean (and I mean this figuratively and pejoratively) you were living under the heaviest of rocks. If I knew about him, given my experience and the fact that he was in every publication at the time, I’m assuming most people did.
Oh, OK.

I'm not going to anyone's shows or paying for PPV. I thought I made it clear, but apparently I didn't and folks are connecting dots with me that I don't intend.

Sorry. I wasn't saying anything about what you said, and I think I exacerbated the whole thing. Should have let it pass like flatulence into a stiff wind.

Oh, that would be me that did that. Sorry, I did misunderstand your intent.

Me too. You are one of my favorite posters and I got all bent out of shape over some pretty dumb reasons.

Don't worry about it one bit. I should not have said a thing and regret making your day lesser for having to open my mouth. I've just always been somewhat baffled by Chappelle and his popularity/non-popularity, and I sometimes think working out my own dissonance in public is a good thing, and it often isn't. My apologies, Jayrod. I think you're a good poster and a good dude. Take care. I didn't even submit for this countdown and I sorta ran my mouth. Sheesh. Have fun, fellas. I'll be around.

I think Chapelles stuff was all really funny. I didn't know about any of the stuff y'all have brought up here, except I know because in his specials he riffs on the trans thing which I gather is one special he made a joke and they didn't like it so he made more jokes next special. And the jokes were freaking hilarious lol. As a kid I actually probably watched Mind of Mencia more, which was more or less a blatant Chapelles show ripoff I think.

There was a lot of internet discussion back then about how Mencia ripped off… everybody.

Beth from Yellowstone

Hello, Beth, you're on the air. We'll get to your merger in a moment, but first I want you to hear from Rampter. Who is Rampter? Well, he's a commenter over at the Yellowstone fandom wiki, and this is what he has to say about you. Rampter is best friends with some guy in Wisconsin that goes only by his initials around internet parts. Anyway, herewith Rampter on your acting in Yellowstone.

Rampter·11/2/2024

I love here as a character but i hate her flaws they are so disgusting, they are realistic that's for dame sure i have meet a woman or two that are exactly like this so seeing her acting actully kind of hard some times but dame it makes for good TV and dame she the actor really makes a good job to make it so easy to hate her as a character.

I got to say the actor sure did a good job to make me hate her character so many times i just sit there and hope she just takes a stray bullet or something to the head with her bs childish tantrums she throws every dame episodes.

It is starting to get a little bit annoying thought but hey i am at season 2 half way through and maybe it changes but for some reason i do not think so xD.
As a guy that can typo with the best of them...this hurts to read. I know a lot of you dislike Yellowstone and Beth in particular but I've always liked her and the show. For me, I had the perception that she was just goal oriented and vengful. Although in one of the later episodes she just hits a girl with a bottle for a little bit of a silly reason so she does come off a little more bat **** crazy then I remembered.
This is my first big surprise - didn't think Battlestar Galactica would be that high. Interesting.
Never underestimate nerds on the internet. I've never seen the original and I was reluctant to watch this but I'm glad that I did. So good.
Up Next: The one show that I grew to hate because of this countdown. Mainly because a lot of you don't know how to spell or use apostrophe's. can't copy and paste
fixed.

Chappelle's Show

This might a big wiff from me. I think I may have had it on early versions of my list and while I think some of it is just very funny I don't think I've watched very many episodes of this. I know the Rick James sketch gets all the love but I always liked this one. Youtube must have edited out the drug part.

Yep Mencia is another guy who lost a lot of fans, respect and work because he was revealed to be a joke thief which is a big no-no in comedy. I guess you could say he got “cancelled” but we should probably just drop that version of the word from our vernacular because at this point it’s used for disgusting sexual predators who are in jail all the way to someone who has received online criticism from what is equivalent to like 0.05% of the worlds population. We have more specific words to handle this situations like convicted, imprisoned, blackballed, criticized, censured, boycotted, exposed, etc. I think in Mencia’a case it’s a combo of exposed and blackballed.

I was beginning to think I'd never have a show on here again. I haven't seen one episode of like the last 20 shows, and it made me realize I don't watch a lot of TV.

But I've seen every single episode of Survivor. I was a rare one who didn't watch the first season as it aired in the summer of 2000 and became a thing. I started with the premiere of season 2 after the Super Bowl in 2001. Went back and got season 1 on DVD through Netflix a few years later. Now we're on season 48. It's certainly had its ups and downs but I'm still watching.

I used to watch a lot of Survivor, but its been years since I watched consistently.

Honestly in terms of drama/strategy, The Traitors has surpassed Survivor by a lot IMO.

I watched the most recent season of The Traitors and I liked it less and less as the season went on. I agree that by season 48, the strategy component of Survivor has pretty much been established, which is why the show relies too heavily on twists and advantages nowadays that takes away from the social component necessary to do well.

I'm the exact same. Missed 1 started with 2. I've probably missed 5-10 seasons over the years and haven't caught 48 yet, but watching and then calling home to my mom is one of the things that's consistently happened since I was 18.

Very few shows make it this long and remain this popular. If we were truly trying to do some kind of "Greatest" vs just our FBG list of favorites, Survivor would have to be in the top 10. Cultural impact, ingenuity, commercial success, longevity, influence on television overall, etc - all extremely high marks.

I wonder how many of our rankers just didn't rank reality at all, similar as to how sports talk or other talk shows and stuff didn't even cross my mind to rank.

Actually, it's way higher here than on other lists. It doesnt even show up on the aggregated IMDB top 250 shows.

All I really remember about Survivor was we watched Season 3 in Africa. It was on in the hospital room when my son was born. Haven't watched it since. I was surprised when I heard they are on Season 48 now. I never expected it to last this long.

Yeah, it's become a big part of our family as well. My kids started watching with us about season 26 or so, so it became a good time of family togetherness. Now, only my youngest is still at home, and it's at least 90 minutes a week where we bond and connect, and then we call my oldest at college and talk about the episode. We even have a draft every season and who we think will win. My kids are still floored when I tell them there used to be season played with no immunity idols or advantages.

Up next: A lot of people call this the best limited series of all time, but its only the second best according to our list.

I watched my first ever season of Survivor while in Bosnia in 1999. I haven't missed a season since. Huge fan of this show. My wife and I always have a previous season in a slow burn playing. This show was groundbreaking and still delivers. We had a few recent seasons that was getting silly with cast but lately has been back to relatable contestants. Once again, love this show.

I’ve watched every season of Survivor and love it because this is the show my daughter and I watch together. When she is away at school, we coordinate which episodes we’ll watch and which we’ll save for when she gets home. We make fun of the bad decisions people make and always talk about what we would do if we went on the show. She’s home for her spring break this week so we’re excited to binge through the latest season together.

So well done. I think we instantly re-watched it after finishing it the first time.

Chernobyl

This came completely out of nowhere for me. Thought it might be somewhat interesting enough to kill an hour, then watched episode one.

Survivor- I was pretty captivated for a few seasons but I lost interest. Probably would have made my top 100

Chernobyl - Very well done, just too short for me to rank much higher. If you haven’t seen it i highly recommend

I think The Americans is a perfect example of a show that never jumped the shark, stayed consistently good throughout it's run, and absolutely nailed the ending.

Hard to say anything bad about it. Glad to see it rank so high.
I don’t have anything bad to say about it but at some point we lost interest and never finished it
