The Top 300 Greatest TV Shows of All Time: FBG Consensus: 50 Lists received. 18: MASH (160 Viewers)

I toyed with adding Wonder Years, but I probably haven’t seen it since it aired and was worried nostalgia was clouding my judgement

Also couldn’t really think of any memorable scenes, just the characters
When I get a chance, I will post some of the top ones IMO.

Something I forgot is that Daniel Stern was not the voiceover for the pilot (played right after the Super Bowl) - that honor went to actor Arye Gross. Only when ABC re-aired the pilot did Stern take over.

Star Trek: The Next Generation

I'd say ignore the first two and half seasons when the Next Generation had the same "look and feell"" of the original series and start with "Yesterday's Enterprise", but then you'd miss "The Measure of a Man". I'd also argue that "The Inner Light" ranks up there among the greatest 45 minutes of TV ever.
This is the signature Trek show. Each season got better and better and better.

What is wild is the original crew transcended better to the silver screen by a country mile.

Wrath of Khan
Search for Spock
The Voyage Home
The Undiscovered Country

Are better than any of the NG big screen flicks. It just never translated better on the big screen.

But as a show it’s hands down my favorite.

I have a soft spot for the original series and still watch it. I even loved the Saturday morning cartoon as well. Underrated!!!

DS9 was really good too.

I still have to watch Picard on Paramount + yeah yeah I know I know…..

I really believe that I've displayed fairly decent intelligence throughout my young 49 year life. Having said that. I'm just now getting what all this "pickle" talk is all about. I kept reading about it throughout the thread. I actually think I might have commented on in it, but just now am seeing what it actually meant. Smh

I'm not accustomed to commenting on these RT ratings...

50. The Carol Burnett Show: --/--
49. The Leftovers: 91/90 (wow!)
48. Six Feet Under: 81/96
47. House: 89/96
46. Taxi: --/74
45. Dexter: 71/81
44. The Muppet Show: 100/91 (WOW!)
43. The Wonder Years: --/88
42. ST:TNG: 92/90 (wow!)

...but it strikes me that we have two shows here that are very highly rated from a FBG standpoint but not so much from either a critical or viewer standpoint. I assume Taxi would probably exceed 90% critical approval but even so, 74 popular RT rating is very low. You have to go all the way back to Family Guy at #89 to find a show with a lower viewer score.

I understand why Dexter may be considered niche but have to admit I am a little surprised at how low Taxi's viewer ratings are coming in.

On another note, happy to see Muppet Show getting so much love from RT critics and viewers alike.

Picard is really good. The last season is such a ridiculously over the top tribute to TNG lovers, at least watch for that. It’s kind of bad but you won’t care because the TNG nostalgia is there in DROVES.

Season 2 is awful(see below), but the rest of the series is top notch.

The original doctor was having arguments regarding the sexism of the show with a writer, and threatened to quit. The producers called her bluff. They hired another actress and she was terrible. Ratings suffered, producers caved, and the original ghost loving, tap dancing doctor came back for the rest of the series.

Almost didn’t stick with this at first until I got used to the constant stress levels, but it was well worth it and the second season has a couple of the best single episodes of tv in the last decade (to me).

I understand why Dexter may be considered niche but have to admit I am a little surprised at how low Taxi's viewer ratings are coming in.
I think there might be around 6 people that have seen Taxi AND vote on Rotten Tomatoes. My estimate might be a tad high, but I wanted to be conservative.
Good point. IMDB (7.7/10) has less than 2,000 votes.

I'm not a Trekkie but my first wife and her dad liked this show so I saw many of its episodes. And I found it riveting for the most part.
I'm also not a Trekkie. I've probably seen half of the original series and saw maybe a dozen episodes of DS9 and Voyager combined, but TNG was a family staple and we all really enjoyed it. It was the right mix of monster of the week (it's always a tachyon emission field) and longer storylines, plus it seemed like a calm, smart show.

my Taxi memory is when Nardo gets an awful haircut so they decide to go and confront the stylist. Nardo takes the high road and leaves, Louise lingers and dumps water on the stylist than on his way out grabs the receptionist and kisses her.

I forgot about this on my initial list and it was one of three things I swapped into the last spots at the last minute. It would have been a bit higher if I’d taken time to do a careful analysis.

It’s pretty hit and miss — it didn’t click with me until episode 4 of the first season and the third season was lower in quality than the first two — but at its best it’s hard to beat. “Review” from S1 and “Fishes” and “Forks” from S2 are among the best episodes I have ever seen on any show. “Fishes” is basically a mini-movie and can be appreciated if you haven’t seen any other episodes because it’s entirely a flashback.

Yes. At least the muppet movies

He hates all things Muppet. I didn't think he could be serious, but he was lethally serious about it. One of the things he thought is that Henson feminized his male leads somehow or ridiculed them for their masculinity. otb didn't like that.

I never caught that from the show (otb's complaint). In fact, I always thought Henson's send-up of Miss Piggy was the controversial part of the show when it came to male/female dynamics, but Henson had her and Kermit nailed regardless. They were perfect. Controversy also seemed to follow Gonzo and his chickens. Hwarf.

Regardless, I loved that show. I still do. Makes me do nothing but smile. I still can't believe our GB otb hated it so much. Ah, variety and spices of life and all that.

I think the first season of The Bear was great. Season 2 dips a little and I haven't even finished season 3. Shows like The Bear and movies like Anora or Uncut Gems that are just loud chaotic curse fests grate on me after awhile. I really enjoy the drama part and running the restaurant and the issues with that.

Funny, I watched that clip and LOL'd probably 3 times.

I don't think I LOL'd as much as marveled at how Lloyd made Jim completely looned out for the game. He was just smothering Louie to get to it, jaw wide open, eyes bulging.

Forks is probably my favorite episode of the series thus far. I liked Fishes, but the yelling made me really tense, and it was an hour long episode, so it was extra stressful. I like the show and look forward to season 4. I had it on my list at one point, but punted it for The Big Valley. I'm certain that TBV won't be in the top 50, so I'm not spoiling anything. You people can catch the Barkley family and their adventures every Saturday at noon on MeTV!
