Theisman out on MNF (1 Viewer)

**** Vermeil would have been my first choice, but I'll take Jaws. Reality for me is it doesn't matter that much. Joe T wasn't that bad. Not as bad as our very own FFA version of Joe T.
If JoeT here is worse than JoeT there, what does that make you, Turico?I hated that MNF Broadcast with Theisman. Him and the steak can fall off the face of the earth and I wouldn't miss them.Jaws knows football, and is a better comentator and student of the game than JoeTh.

I am clearly in the infinite minority here: But I liked Theisman, right until last season when he stated it was easier to throw a wet football because it was tacky. Then he lost me...
I think Theismann is better than most give him credit for, but I can even as a 'Skins fan appreciate what it is about him that makes him grate on people. Unfortunately for him, what gets lost in all of this is what a great QB he was for some Redskins Super Bowl teams - he organized and led practices, for example, during that many-weeks long 1982 strike season when they ended up winning their first Super Bowl, and for a couple of years he was as good as any QB in the NFL. Like I said though, there are certainly better analysts out there. There are also far, far worse ones.
I think he grates on people with his arrogance, that comes from being such a good QB and living the NFL High life. But I'm mature enough to look past that.He just said too many foolish things, just like the tacky ball. And if I am remembering right he stated Kurt Warner could still be an MVP like player in the NFL. I like guys who think differently, but not those that just throw "it" out there.BTW-The Skins are going to be VG IMO this season.

I like Jaws, but find listening to him for too long is like scratching a chalk board with finger nails. He's a frenetic talker and clearly has worked hard on proper enunciation...

Unbelievable - do you mean to say a network is actually doing the right thing for football fans? Losing Theisman was great, but I figured he would be replaced with Jessica Simpson or Lindsay Lohan so as to continue MNF's quest to appeal to the 'casual' fan and continue with this misguided "Monday Night Football is more entertainment than sport" garbage. But to replace Joe T with Jaws? Pure gold.

People do realize that Kornheiser and Miller before him are/were not in the booth for football geeks such as ourselves, right? It was kinda hard for Tony to provide levity when he and Theisman so obviously hated each other. However, when Jaws is on PTI, he and Tony banter quite well. I think Jaws will not only up the football analysis, but also the entertainment factor. Now lets just hope this is true.

dparker, I couldn't agree more. Jaws and Tony have a great relationship already and that should come out in the booth next year. For everyone that hates Tony and thinks he's stupid and for the common fan, how else could he possibly call out Theisman at every turn for being an idiot without getting fired?

Good point, and may i just say :banned:  :pickle: to not having to listen to joey sunshine anymore this year. I've never seen a guy (outside of DC that is) flip flop on an issue or person so often in the span of a 3 hour game.Oh, and i think you mean "banter"....fyi

I am hoping the hiring of Jaws is in fact true when all is said and done. I would prefer a MNF booth consisting of Jaws, Vermeil and Suzy Kolber. Terico is better suited for sideline reporter duties including game analysis and "up to the minute" reports (injury or otherwise.)

Melissa Stark coming back to the sideline is definately worth dreaming about, but unlikely IMO.

Am I the only one who didn't like Kornheiser.

If I have to hear about a guy he has on his fantasy team one more time...

I really liked Mike Patrick on the play-by-play. Why did they replace him with Tirico?

Theisman was the only reason you watched MNF?
When I watched it yeah... I loved watching the old SNF crew with Paul and Joe always getting at each other...Quality entertainment...

Kornheiser sucks on the radio, in the newspaper and PTI is a waste... Have no idea what the powers at be were thinking on this attempt...

NEWSDAY CONFIRMS THEISMANN REPORT

Neil Best of Newsday confirms that Joe Theismann is out as an analyst on ESPN's Monday Night Football, citing an unnamed person familiar with the decision.

Newsday also reports that Theismann declined comment "until I fully understand what has taken place," but Newsday says that he did not deny the news and hinted that it came as a shock.

An ESPN spokesman told Newsday and Michael David Smith of AOL Fanhouse that the network has "nothing to announce."

Hey, we're grateful that someone has corroborated our report, which was posted on Saturday night. But we're disappointed that Newsday pulled a Pasquarelli on this on, creating the impression that it broke the story when, in reality, Newsday did not.

i hope they bring in Wilbon and get the ticker on the side of the screen
The times when Mike Wilbon visited the MNF booth were like a breath of fresh air. Korny and him work great together.

That said, Jaws will be a big improvement, he just needs to slow the AK-47 like cadence he uses when speaking. But at least the words he says makes sense.

Id

:goodposting: Joe...good riddance

i didn't love TK, but i'm willing to give him a shot with someone he doesn't have to continually call out for being a moron.

Theisman was one of the few broadcasters who communicated a genuine enthusiasm for his job and the game of football. There are better analysts, but too many have no personality. That really is his #1 job - to be an ambassador for the game, to make people understand the excitement. Its going to be very hard to replace what he brought to the table.

If only he'd harnessed that enhusiasm to actually do the job they hired him to do: inform, and add to the football telecast in an entertaining way. He's definitely not the Norman Einstein of NFL broadcasting.

PS How's the knee, Joe?

The banter between Jaws and Tony K on PTI is outstanding (Jaws does the '5 Good Minutes' segment a lot during the football season). It's amazing how well two or three broadcasters can interact when they are professional, intelligent, and don't care who's getting the most airtime. Theismann would be better utilized in a 2 man booth doing college football imo.Tirico, Kornheiser, and Jaworski will be a definite upgrade for ESPN's Monday Night Football coverage.

I see your point. My reality is he made me want to jam pencils into my ears every time he spoke. So.... :pickle: :pickle: :pickle: :pickle: :pickle:

Theisman out on MNF, per PFT
Also according to the New York Times: Theismann Dropped From Monday Night Crew
After one season as the lead analyst for “Monday Night Football” on ESPN, Joe Theismann will be dismissed and replaced by Ron Jaworski, the network is scheduled to announce today. Theismann is expected to be offered another job at the network.

He had also been ESPN’s analyst on “Sunday Night Football” from 1988 to 2005.

Replacing Theismann with Jaworski, who is known for his ESPN studio work but not for booth analysis, means exchanging one former quarterback with another. Jaworski, 56, played for the Eagles, and Theismann, 57, played for the Redskins.

About 20 posters in here have stated their dislike of Kornheiser.
Kornheiser sucks on the radio, in the newspaper and PTI is a waste... Have no idea what the powers at be were thinking on this attempt...
As usual, I find myself in complete disagreement with you. Kornheiser's old radio show was the best two hours of its kind.

 :lmao:

This is great, but until ESPN states that there will be no more non-football "guests" in the booth then I still won't watch unless my team is involved.

Makes sense that you're a Browns fan.

Mute button down?
that would require espn to actually show the action on the field during the promo... which has become a real problem for them of late...

JT never bothered me, but I guess I'm glad the masses got good news. I'll agree wholeheartedly the single biggest improvement they could possibly make is immediate termination of the guest. That was unbearable to watch. It adds nothing and in fact takes away from the electricity of live sports to interrupt it with the cover of People magazine. What's next, a red carpet seeing what famous fans are wearing to the game? Bad addition to the broadcast.
