There's no way the Yanks aren't Team of the Decade (1 Viewer)

I know that certain fans proclaim that a certain other team is the team of the decade (ignoring the fact that the decade actually runs 2001-2010, I don't think many people acknowledge this distinction), but the Yankees resume trumps that of the Sox and any other possible nominee.

From 2000-2009, the Yanks have two WS wins, four AL pennants and nine playoff appearances.

The Yankees also have the best regular season winner of any team to win the Series this decade.

The Sox have the same number of WS wins, but only two pennants and have only made the playoffs six times, five of those as the wild card.

Not this. The decade runs from 2000-2009. The millenium technically ends at 2000, but decades are different.

Unless of course you think 1990 was part of the 80's.
link
LinkLet's be honest, we can go back and forth all day on the technical definitions here. And the term "Team of the Decade" is rather meaningless considering it's an arbitrary starting and ending point. But in the sports context, teams of the decade are grouped by "Team of the 80's", "Team of the 90's", etc. There's no way the year 2000 was a part of the 90's, so it has to be a part of this one.

Then it should be stated as such in the thread title, as wrong as it may be.

Ok chief...hey Oddibe, please re-name this thread to reflect that the Yankees are the team of the 00's but NOT the team of the decade. I will officially never understand some of the people in this place.

:lmao:

Who was the team of the nineties? :goodposting:
I'd say the Yankees there too. If the Braves had beaten them in either 1996 or 1999, then they'd be the obvious choice. They'd each have 2 titles, but the Bravos also had pennants in 1991 and 1992. And won the division every year from 1991-1999 (except the strike year of 94).But since the Yanks beat them, they have 3 WS titles to the Braves' 1 and five total playoff appearances. While the Braves had 8, I would vote that 3-1 on titles >>> 8-5 on playoff appearances.

PS I remember in 1999 when the Yanks played the Braves in the WS many people were saying that that would determine who was the team of the 90's. In other words 2000 is included in the next decade discussion (the team of the aughts?)

Umm The Roaring 20's = 1920-1929The 60's = 1960-1969The Team of the decade = 2000-2009Now you can argue who that is all you want (I dont really give a ####) but you cant argue that the decade is 2001-2010.
The Roaring 20's ran from the Nov 11, 1918 through Oct 28, 1929. The sixties ended w/ Nixon's inaguration, the first moonwalk or Altamont. You could make the case that this decade began on Sep 11, 2001.

Plus....the Roaring 20's doesn't have to mean the entire decade....but only the part of the decade that actually roared.

The Yanks will be the team of every decade until MLB fixes the system, deal with it. (I'm still working on it myself)

WTF?
It invalidates the Yankees' 2000 WS title so it works for me. The decade will also end when I say so.

The 60's ran from Kennedy's assassination to Nixon's resignation.

Agreed, but it's never going to change. Part of me still follows the game more than others because I believe the NFL/NBA have crossed the imaginary Real Sport/WWF-esque line in ways that are more than obvious and should be public knowledge before long(Donnaghy pretty much exposed the sham that is the NBA with his book, that the NBA crushed as quickly as it possibly could, I'm sure all the crooked refs are receiving 8 figures to keep their mouth shut) and the NFL is no better, imo....I see the same thing in the English Premier League and it's never going to change there either...Moral of the story, follow the NHL...

Most of the world is this way too. Life is unfair.

This #### kills me. I know what you're getting at, but it's absurd.The 60's ran from January 1, 1960 to December 31, 1969.
