They are remaking Road House (1 Viewer)

Remaking The Running Man, remaking The Naked Gun.

They remake them because we are an idiotic society that continues to give them money. It will never stop because we are increasingly getting dumber.
I can understand remaking a movie from the 40's or 50's. Something like North by Northwest that was a great movie but hasn't aged all that well could make a good modern film. Road House they just made worse.

Running Man was a terrible movie, and I'm actually looking forward to the remake.

What are you lot complaining about? They remade Ben Hur with a different plot. Also The Three Musketeers. If they want to make a different movie, why don't they just make up a new name to go with it?

Really pisses me off.

Well allegedly the original running man didn't follow Steven kings book as closely as this one so we shall see?
Based on the short trailer I saw, this version doesn’t look too close either. Looked more like a heist movie. I guess on paper, actually have a scene take place outside and not in some ridiculous MadMax arena would technically make it closer, if only on a macro scale. Might still be fun though.

Never read the book so don't know...only going off of articles and interviews

Been a long time since I read the book, but the gist of it is a down on his luck “engine wiper” - which is apparently a horrible job where you are exposed to radiation on the regular or something, signs up for the most popular TV game show going, think he has a sick daughter that needs treatment.

To win you have to evade capture/death for x number of days, but the whole country is incentivized to report on your whereabouts to professional hunters. The powers that be will do anything to make sure no one ever wins.

The end of the book is sort of problematic now.

North by Northwest has aged just fine. Better than the original Running Man, that is for sure. And while I like the original Roadhouse, it's not a good movie. It's more in the so bad it's great range. It wasn't a huge hit instantly, took awhile to become a VHS and cable TV sensation. I am surprised some people would put Roadhouse or The Naked Gun movies into some kind of untouchable category. Somtimes remakes and re-imaginings work great (Nolan's Batman, 1950s Ben-Hur, Bogart's The Maltese Falcon, MASH the TV show, Fargo TV show The Magnificent Seven, The Thing, The Departed, The Fly) and some are disasters (Psycho remake, Point Break with X games athletes, the 2016 Ben Hur, Stallone in Get Carter, Jason Momoa's Conan the Barbarian, Robocop: The Series, etc.)

Naked Gun is simply untouchable because of Leslie Nielsen (and to a lesser extent George Kennedy).

I mean I like them and the new cast isn’t as good but to me it’s just a spoof series of slapstick comedies spoofing an even older TV show.
