They need to do away with the Pro Bowl (1 Viewer)

Have either the best college team or best college all-star team play the worst NFL team. I remember when the Super Bowl champs used to play the college all-stars, and that wasn't good either. One thing I do know is that not too many folks really care about the Pro Bowl.

I thought I read that next year it is getting moved to the weekend before the SB? I searched (briefly) but couldn't find it.

That's worse. Obviously no one playing in the SB will participate. Edited to add that if you think no one cares now, I'm pretty sure no one will have interest in the Pro Bowl the weekend before the SB.

College all-star team vs worst NFL team would be interesting TV for a while until the college all-star team started getting whipped 35-3 each year.

I always thought the Hall of Fame game should have been the Pro Bowl but now they are doing away with the Hall of Fame game so I guess that won't happen.

They need to just have some event to honor the pro bowl players without the game. Heck, I might even buy into a senior bowl game in which they also honor the pro bowl players somehow.

The actual pro bowl game is pretty much a joke at this point.

They don't participate in it anyway. You want a competitive pro bowl people and more importantly for us, the players care about? Pay them, a lot.
He didn't just say 'Pay them alot'?
I did. The only way you are going to get a good turnout from players is if you entice them with money. I didn't say it's right, but it would work.

So none of the superbowl players can play in it? Great decision.
Many of the players in the Super Bowl don't end up playing in it anyway.I like the idea of the game being played prior to the SB. Two weeks off is too long and that'll put sometihng right in the middle.I'd even vote to push it further and have it mean something, like the Baseball All Star game. In baseball, they have the winning team of the All-Star game get home field advantage for the World Series.......that's pretty big so coaches and players play to win.I'd suggest something similar. You can't do home field advantage and you can't award any points but you could do something like offer up who automatically gets the winning coin toss. So, if the NFC wins the Pro Bowl the week before, they get to choose if they want the ball etc... as if they had won the coin toss. Having the Pro Bowl weeks after the season over is a waste. I'd actually like to see the top players in the NFL minus those in the SB actually compete against each other. How awesome would it be to actually see the top NFL players really compete vs. each other rather than the pro bowl we're used to seeing where it's a joke.

I'd 100% watch this anyway.
That would be fun to watch, unlike when the SB champs used to trounce the college all-stars, I think a game with the worst NFL Team against the nations best college players would be more competitive than some think.

Players elected don't play and brush it off so casually

Any other level of sports, an all star game is an achievement and one in which guys hope to play in.

Some NFL players don't want to practice, play in preseason, or play in the pro bowl.

Football is not a sport that lends itself well to an all star type of game at this level. Just can the entire idea already.

Like a bunch of all-star college kids want to ruin their careers just before they go pro?

The game is meaningless and never should be played in the first place.

Lol, it's so true though. I haven't watched a Pro Bowl since I was about 9. I am now 21. But the events they have the day before the QB Skills/Fastest Man/Best Hands etc. they are all pretty fun to watch.

I disagree 100%. For one, the players on the losing SB team almost never play as it is... and a number from the winners cant due to injury, or just show up almost as a token exercise. However, the fact that the game is SO insignificant, a number of other players dont show up, and those who do end up playing a game NO one cares about. The SB is the pinnacle - the pinnacle game, the championship, the pinnacle event.to have such an anticlimactic meaningless game happen AFTER the SB guarantees no one cares. Now, even without participants from the SB teams, how exciting would it be to have SOME football to cut up the very long feeling two weeks between the championship games and the SB? We are all still in prime football mood and would be juiced to watch SOMEthing to kill the time between games. If you could then reinforce participation (either dont get paid and/or dont get COUNTED as an All Pro if you dont play in the game or something to that effect) I think you have a game people will actually watch. It CANT be worse than playing the week after the most important game in the world. it could be exciting if done right, the week before.

Just thinking the sort of same thing. Maybe ditch the game itself and just do the skills competition and add the big bucks for winning.Or maybe something like the old Superstars show

I love the skills contests, the game is stupid.I hate hockey, but even enjoy their skills contests.I would even watch a bunch of fat linemen pushing a sled in competition.

I say move it to the preseason and make it a flag football game played in street clothes. It would be no more ridiculous than it is now.

I would put it in the middle of the season with the week after it a bye week for everyone, then only have one week off before the superbowl.

I would think there's be even less Star participation mid season. Makes sense time wise though. Everyone else (except for College FB) does theirs midseason.

Some truly awful ideas in here.

Players today aren't going to risk injury for a game they get very little to play in. Not to mention deal with all the interviews and other crap the NFL probably forces them to do.

Either pay the winners a significant amount or just can the thing.

They should get rid of the pro bowl and have a "Superstars" type competition. That would be sweet!

"Competitors participate in different sporting events, including a 100 meter sprint, 800 meter (half-mile) run, obstacle course race, weightlifting, rowing, tennis, bicycle racing, gym test, and swimming. The sports used have varied somewhat over time and between the European and American competitions. Points are awarded for the position in which the competitor places in each event. The competitor with the most points at the end of ten events is declared the champion."

Give the winner a bunch of $$$$.

Superstars

1) I enjoy the Pro Bowl :lmao:

2) They should move it up to break up the two week gap between conference championship games and the Super Bowl

3) Have the game in the Super Bowl host city

I think the single best way to get stars to come out to the Pro Bowl is to have HOF voters begin considering it in their deliberations. They should consider who makes it and plays as a positive and who makes it but bails for any reason other than injury as a serious negative.

No.
Winning players get a week at that 8 star resort in Dubai.Losing players have to spend a month living out of a Motel 6 in Detroit.

Not a chance if the game were treated seriously and not an exhibition. A college all-star team would be 95% comprised of players who couldn't even make an NFL roster, would be years away from being good or out of football in 2-3 years. Just look at any draft year and make up an all-star list of those players, put them BEFORE their rookie year when they haven't received one minute of NFL coaching and see how competitive a team you come up with. Remember, you aren't getting 2007 Tom Brady, you're getting 6th round draft pick never taken a snap in the NFL Tom Brady.

What would be the incentive for the worst NFL team to even show up for this? Would never happen.

Bingo! Send them to Hawaii. Bring in the recently retired/not-quite-over-the-hill guys and have them play the Flag game in the sand. Have the skills contests. Have a big bash/party, and give all the Pro-Bowlers a pat on the back and send them home for a nice "off season."Nuff is E-Nuff.

First year rookies should play aging retired stars.
Yes, let's watch Ronnie Lott try to tackle ADP. :bag: Ummm, on second thought, how about reruns of Golden Girls instead?Skills comp = fo shizzleGame = waste of 3 hours (haven't watched on since I was about 14 - after that one I turned to my dad and said, "That stunk, it wasn't even football." He said, "Yep.")

True, but it sure would make for great TV wouldn't it?

I had not heard that they're doing away with the HOF Game. Is this true???

Completely agree.I'd much rather see a skills competition, maybe with some highly thought of Seniors from the upcoming draft at each position. I think the college kids would push the vets.I'd also like to see the events go to checks made out to charities made in the winners name. These pro's can afford to use the tax write off and the charities could certainly use the $.

There's no good idea to "fix it" -- in fact, most of the ideas in here are absolutely awful.

The game is, um...what it is. Either watch it or don't. Who really cares? Why does it need to be more than what it is? Doesn't the NFL provide you with enough entertainment?
