Things to do in and around Huntsville (Sweet Home) Alabama (1 Viewer)

The FUBAR clan will be moving to the Huntsville, AL area this summer.

We're not sold on living in Huntsville. Madison seems to have better schools. But we're not too familiar with the area.

Aside from Space Camp and other space related activities, what is there to do in the area?

Where would you live with school-aged kids?

Madison is certainly where you want to be. Newer, nicer, etc.

I lived around Huntsville for about 15 years of my life.

What is there to do? Eh....sorry to say, it's not loaded with great stuff. It's a small city. The Space Center is cool...but not something you'll do more than once or twice. So you're left with mall, movie theaters, the usual stuff.

They have some neat festivals in Huntsville a few times a year. Great beer festival.

They have an outdoor mall that is one of the best malls around. The movie theater there is the best movie theater I've ever been to, seriously. Taking the kids to the mall is an experience because there are great restaurants, etc.

I live in the Nashville area and to be honest, life isn't a whole lot different here than it would be there. Yeah, Nashville has NHL and NFL, but those aren't exactly normal activites, more like something you do every once in awhile. Downtown Nashville is in another world from downtown Huntsville (which has a nice park, but otherwise is kind of lame), but again, I don't take my kids downtown all that much.

Enjoy it's a nice city.

We enjoy the outdoors more than malls most days.

How's the weather throughout the summer? We're in eastern NC now and lived north of Nashville for a few years.

I don't think north nashville and Huntsville will differ much at all in terms of summer heat.

Cool hiking trails at Monte Sano State park if you like the outdoors.

Looks like that will be a short bike ride or long run from the house we're looking at.

Bump for any other advice / recommendations. Looking at Madison right now.
