This class sure looks weak (1 Viewer)

Loving the 4th pick. This draft is underrated
What is so appealing about 1.04? I ended up with that pick. I traded down from 1.01 before the 2nd round tonight.
awful move. you could of gotten more now.
Thanks! I obviously understand that now. Who knew lacy was going to end up in his optimal spot. I was just trying to salvage something positive by figuring out why loose was so high on 1.04.

first year in dyno? the draft was only 32 picks od. geez talk about over-reaction.

Wow dude. Wow. I'm sorry I don't manage my team to your satisfaction. If Lacy doesn't fall into his optimal spot, I am sure you would be singing a different tune.

I still don't really care for Lacy in Green Bay. I'm not sure how this is his optimal spot considering they are probably the most pass happy team in the NFL.

I do see what people man by it being deep a bit better now. After sliding from 1.1  to 1.10 and 2.1 via trades, I am now staring at guys like Robert Woods, Justin Hunter, and maybe even Montee Ball. Kudus to the FBG guys who were stating this. I guess it took actually doing a quick league mock to see it. I had previously proposed trading back further but I think I am standing pat at this point.

Don't like that trade at all. And no way Ball is available at 1.10. Dude will probably be off the board at 1.02 in a lot of drafts.

Four RBs went to good spots.

Ball at 1.10?

Benson was averaging 14 carriesg/game the five games he was healthy for the Packers. That plus some catches and GL looks is valuable.

Do you think all 4 rb's will go before Austin?
Guessing it's Bernard, Bell, Ball, Lacy and Austin in the top five. Then Patterson, Hunter, Hopkins and Eifert in some order.

After that? No idea -- think this draft is a hot mess.
in ppr? It seems like the big ten backs might fall behind Hopkins/Patterson.

Back to the draft class, only 1 QB drafted per round after 3; 3 QBs after 3 rounds that has to be an NFL record. Truly weak.

As 'weak' (talent wise) people gotta admit that players landed in some nice spots.

Ball at 1.10?
ehhh maybe not but this is a 2qb league so Manuel and Gino will go in the top 10.

Someone else can take Bell in the top 5.

I would take Lacy, Bernard, Ball, Manuel, Hopkins, Hunter, and Eifert overt him.

Still not loving this class. I would still rather Lamar Miller or David Wilson over the 1.1

eta: OR, not AND

For the RBs there's no one in this class I'm in love with, but Austin and Patterson look like legit talents. I'd probably but both of them very close to Blackmon last year. Patterson's workout numbers are slightly better than Blackmon and you could argue that his highlights are also more impressive. Granted their games are very different, but still

I am actually loving this draft IF you have those late 1st round picks. I think there are a good handful of players that could help your team that will fall into your lap if you are picking in that range.

And the fact that the consensus seems to be that everyone DOESN'T have a clear ranking only strengthens that thought because we are talking up everyone fron Bernard to Austin and everyone in between in every conceivable spot from 1-6. That means in some drafts, you are going to see guy like Ball and Hunter fall to 8-12 or so and they might be the best talent/situation combos available.

I agree with this....total crap shoot. Ball could go #1 or #8 depending on your league. I have the 1.10 and 2.1 picks and I love them there (but only because I was able to stash picks for next year to go along with them). The good thing about owning the top picks this year is you get your pick of the litter and have positional flexibility. If you need a wideout, you can take Austin or Hopkins at #1 and the opportunity cost isn't as great. If you need a QB, you can probably slide back to 7 or 8 and still get Manuel in most formats.

My guess is that Ball and Bell don't fall.

I think a LOT of drafts will have Lacy-Ball-Bell-Bernard as top four, in some order.

With no QB anyone loves, and no clear top WR, people may just play it safe, go for RB. So I agree with you, some talent will fall, but I doubt it'll be the backs.

Yeah, if done right, this could be a dream draft for a rebuilding team with multiple picks. havign multiple needs, you could pick what you need or trade back or whatnot.

I think you are right. It think Austin slides in there (as he should seeing he was picked a full round before any backs in the NFL draft). But the backs will dominate.

Guess it will depend on the league more so than most years. In a ppr once you get past Bernard and probably Ball, I think there are enough genuine ??? to where a team thinking long-term might have reservations on the other RBs and IF they really need a WR or TE long-term, I could easily see them pushing Austin, Hopkins, or Patterson up and letting those backs fall.

A few months ago it may have been inconceivable but today, I would not be surprised at all if Lacy was the 1.04 or 1.05 in some PPR drafts. I can totally see Austin, Patterson, Ball and Bernard going in front of him without as much as a "HUH?".

Popular narrative, but not really true at all. Unless you count 16th in passing attempts as most pass happy team in the NFL.

I put Gio and Lacy well above Ball and Bell.

And that's just on talent. Situation? I don't care. A crappy back goes to a good situation, it just means he will be a backup to some rookie next year, that gets drafted into the same good situation.

Been saying this all year. The top 5 is weaker than usual. The next ten are stronger than usual. This draft might be weak at the top, but the depth is terrific.

Clark Hunt: Chiefs would have liked No. 1 pick last yearBy Kareem Copeland

Around the League Writer

"At the end of the season I certainly had those thoughts," Hunt said to The Kansas City Star's Adam Teicher. "I was like, 'Why could this have not been last year when there were the quarterbacks sitting there (and) we had a need at the quarterback position?'

"When we were able to pull off the trade on Alex Smith, really for me that issue went away. We ended up getting a first overall quarterback. He just happened to have been taken (eight) years ago."

The Chiefs have placed a lot of faith in Smith. San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh revived Smith's career in 2011 before Smith lost the job to Colin Kaepernick in 2012. We don't know if Smith will be as efficient sans Harbaugh.

This was not the year to have the No. 1 overall pick. Eric Fisher is a nice tackle, but Kansas City Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt admitted his team bottomed out a year too late.

The Chiefs are confident though and were active in free agency with the signing of tight end Anthony Fasano, receiver Donnie Avery, defensive lineman Mike DeVito, cornerbacks Sean Smith and Dunta Robinson and backup quarterback Chase Daniel. They kept receiver Dwayne Bowe and offensive lineman Bryan Mattison.

"We didn't have to draft somebody to come fill a hole here or there," Hunt said. "We were able to take the guy John Dorsey thought would be the best for the Kansas City Chiefs in the long run.

"So, actually, it turned from being a little bit of a negative to very much of a positive because we were going to be able to get a player who would help us not only this year but down the road."

The Chiefs made the best of the situation and are in a much better position than in 2012. But Smith and Fisher still don't equal Andrew Luck or Robert Griffin III.

I hear you Clark, as I have the Rookie 1.01 pick in one of my Leagues, and would have preferred to have it last year instead.

While the talent wasn't ideal in this draft, it's probably been the best draft in recent memory in terms of the situations that players landed in. Typically if there are five running backs on your radar, two of them get drafted to teams that already have clear-cut starters and another two get drafted to teams that have a really poor rushing attack. This year, of all the RBs on people's radar, really only one (Michael) ended up in a bad spot. All of the rest landed on teams that not only have a fairly clear-cut path to the starting gig, but also on teams that should produce pretty well for fantasy if they do get that starting job.

Meanwhile, we have two fairly unique WRs in Austin/Patterson and both of them ended up with teams that have shown they know how to use that kind of WRs.

Talent over situation is great as a general rule, but it's not a hardfast end-all be-all. There have been plenty of merely "good" players excelling in good situations and a lot of the guys in this year's draft will have a chance to do that.

I'm stating to look for some 2011 and 2012 players that may have fell through the cracks to make up for this draft class. Some of the player I like went to bad spots and that weakened the class even more.

Pretty excited for my IDP options still.

Today I turned the 1.01 into 2.01 plus two 2014 firsts. Not bad to drop 10 spots in a week class.
that could hurt if those are late 1st's
No doubt.
do you feel good about it still?
absolutely. I could still end with high picks next year. I don't think a ton separates 1.1 this year and 1.10 despite the post draft intoxication. A turd in a good situation is still a turd.

Not a chance. Lamar miller wouldn't br top 5 or close. David Wilson maybe 1.5
disagree.
After seeing what I've seen so far I think I agree with BBT. I'd have Austin, Patterson, Hopkins and Gio before Miller or Wilson. I'd put Wilson at 1.5 but Miller would be in a crowd with the rest of the RB's and Eifert after that.
Not a chance. Gio looks like a 3rd down scat back to me right now. He's been getting crushed any time an NFL level player makes contact with him. The only rookie back I'd even entertain ahead of Miller or Wilson at this point is Lacy. I still don't think I'd put him there but the reports on him are all pretty stellar and I like his ability more than the other rookies. The WRs are tough to call right now. I personally don't think Austin should even bein the conversation as it relates to guys like Miller and Wilson. He's never going to be a true WR1 in the NFL IMO and its very difficult for me to put a guy like that ahead of RBs with stud potential. Hopkins could become a WR1 but I've got him a slight bit behind Patterson, who I think has tremendous potential in the NFL.

In the end I'd still take Miller or Wilson over any of these rookies. I guess that could change in a few weeks but I've certainly not seen enough in 1 preseason game to change my mind.

Jurb do you favor Wilson and Miller because they both have a full year ahead of all of these rookies? Or do you just think that Wilson and Miller are far more talented than these rookies?

I think it is reasonable to expect these 2 2nd year players to be closer to producing useful numbers in 2013. However long term I think all 3 of those receivers are going to be more valuable than Miller.

Wilson is a tougher call as he is in a plum situation and was at least a 1st round pick by an organization that has a pretty good track record drafting the position.

I'm loving Christine Michael right now. He does not offer the value for 2013, but will in the next two years.

Eiferts needle is posting up. No way I'd pick him over Wilson though.....or Miller
It's Econ 101. Hernandez is done. Gronk is banged up. Witten and Gonz are old. No Pitta. All we have is Jimmy. When you look at Jimmy and Gronk they have aging QBs. Eifert-Dalton could be the top TE-QB combo in two years. You can find several RB in any draft. If you have 2-3 backs already and no Graham, Eifert should be in serious consideration.

I like Wilson and miller because I see them as more talented players. I don't know that I would say far more talented, though. I was very highly both guys last year as prospects and I've seen nothing from them in a year of action that would sway that stance. I do like Paterson a great deal. From a skill player standpoint he's my top guy in this class and it wouldn't surprise me to see him out perform both guys long term. It's a gamble with him though.

Austin isn't in the ball park for me. I just don't think he'll ever live up to the hype and I can't see him ever becoming a WR1 for his team. For that reason I can't rank him higher.

Hopkins is an interesting guy. I like him but don't know if I like him to ever be a WR1 either. I get a feeling he will be a strong WR2 on several teams but never really break through.

The guy I have closest to Paterson is Lacy. He seems to be a forgotten man right now and I'm not sure why. I like both Miller and Wilson as players more but Lacy is built for a lead RB role in the NFL IMO. I don't know if being in GB is good or bad? I know he should get scoring ops but will he really touch the ball enough in a Rogers centered offense?

In the end I'd rank theses guys as so;

Miller

Wilson

Paterson

Lacy

Hopkins

Eifert

Ertz

Austin

Bernard
