This forum is useless unless you play dynasty (1 Viewer)

Honestly, why would you pay the bucks to join here for redraft leagues. Just go to rotoworld or some other free site in August.

Veteran fantasy football and nfl addicts live here.

I wish there was more dynasty/keeper talk because in the rest of the fantasy football world re=draft dominates the media.

The Shark Pool seems to have less "riff-raff" because of the low tolerance for trolls. I appreciate it and that probably increases dynasty/keeper interest here which probably also creates more consistent off-season activity.

It's a good recipe.

Huh? These message boards are FREE....so joining them takes no skin off anyone's back.Redraft info is prevalent here in the SP, you just have to look a little harder (I guess) and with an open mind towards what you are reading.

Team spotlight threads are a good idea. Getting rid of the player spotlight threads is not a good idea. The two are not mutually exclusive. A team spotlight thread with links to the player spotlights, and a player spotlight thread with links to the team spotlights, would be the ideal.

In some of the spotlight threads I have linked to more player specific threads where I thought discussion related back to the team spotlight. I could see more of this perhaps being an improvement as fred suggests. The timing of the threads could be sooner.

People are going to talk about what interests them and they are not going to wait for a spotlight or any other kind of thread to do so. So if you want these threads to be more active I think they need to be started sooner.

Most dynasty articles are relevant to my 14 team redraft keeper league so I completely disagree with the OP.

Players Ive been able to acquire before my league mates clued in include:

Keenan Allen, Julius Thomas, Josh Gordon.

All thanks to keeping up on rookies/bench guys with the info from this forum.

This is a critique that I never understand. I just need the news/information/opinion. I can figure out the importance for dynasty, re-draft, both or neither without being "told" or it being "obvious' where to place it.

Unsure if I should be offended. :topcat:

If you don't know what you are doing in redraft I pity you.Dynasty gives me a leg up on redraft. All I have to do with redraft is figure out where guys are getting drafted. Not saying I'll win every league but I went deep into the playoffs in every redraft I've done after starting to do it again with friends the past two years. Redraft isnt boring but it is easier. It's only good if you do it with a close group of guys though.
I was going to post something similar. The more dynasty focused I get the easier redraft is. Though you may have to adjust any age bias if that's your dynasty style.

other forums are talking redraft now... there's plenty to talk about that doesn't have to do with dynasty
Excellent, start a thread about all this interesting other stuff, and if other people agree, it will spawn a very active discussion.

I look forward to seeing your contribution. :coffee:

There's no point in talking about players when we are over a month away before even the earliest redraft leagues start drafting. You don't own any players now and you can't trade so there's no point in discussing players value at this point. Dynasty leagues own players all year round and can trade all year round, so it's important to discuss players value at all times. Plus, dynasty leagues are currently undergoing startup drafts and rookie drafts now, so there is a lot of talk about that.

Just like every year, as soon as it becomes mid-August, this forum will be mostly about redraft and not dynasty.

Did you complain as a kid that the ice cream truck doesn't come around in the middle of January?

I dont think you remember being a redraft only player. The best redraft conversations happen before people own players. Once people draft, a lot of people just pump up their own guys and refuse to aknowledge any faults. Before they draft, and every player is a potential target, you can get quality discussion because people are still figuring out who they like, instead of defending their stances. We used to have our best redraft discussions before training camps began, because people openly shared information, dug up interesting stats, looked at the schedules and came up with dtbc or good week 14-16 schedules, etc.So in that sense, dynasty posters do take some of the steam out of conversation here. People already have entrenched opinions about players they drafted or traded for or traded away, long before training camps. So there's no unfettered talk - almost everyone has an agenda, some people are more objective than others, and its hard for a redraft poster who hasn't read the dynasty threads to get a feel for who's who.

The other thing that sucks for redraft talk is the oft heard "I can't wait to bump this in december". That's not useful conversation. Im way more interested in the process people use to gather and decipher information than I am in individual pissing contests and who gets credit for which call. I feel like we used to do a better job of clearing that nonsense out of here, but its gone by the wayside.

A good example of this is the 2014 trent richardson thread, which was immediately overtaken by trolls who had taken over the 2013 thread, and who have bumped the 2013 thread repeatedly because they would rather bump their thread full of lols and chest bumping I was rights. as soon as someone posts a dissenting opinion, one or more posters swarm in to stifle the conversation. Its a bummer because it completely prevents the discussion that should happen this time of year. But most of us have aged with the forum and don't really need it anymore, and the moderation in the pool has become much less concerned as the owners have shifted their focus significantly since the site started. So for better or worse, I don't expect that to change any time soon.

I see what you're saying, but if you're strictly a redrafter then you can still get all the information about a player in "dynasty" threads. The information is interchangeable. Before I started playing dynasty and strictly played redraft, I would read on here a lot and learn a ton from the dynasty people. Those people monitored players all year round and just reading through the player threads you can get a feel for how the players value has gone up and down given the players situation and team.

If that isn't relevant for redraft people, then what is? What are "redraft" threads? If they are just talking about where guys should be drafted in redraft then again...it's too early for that. Players value will change before it's time to start drafting.

All you can do now if you're strictly redraft is read about players and soak up as much info as you can. What else could you be trying to do anyways? This forum is as great as any for that kind of thing. The only threads outside the player ones are typically dynasty at this point because those are the only leagues currently drafting and currently "active" right now.

Some guys like to make their redraft board early then move players up and down. Or talk about why player x and player y are basically identical but one is cheaper. Or talk about a guys prospects before the hype starts, so they can sanity check themselves when the guy they thought sucked breaks a 40 yard td in the preseason or the guy they like has a bad start. If you wait until august to talk about this stuff, then the guys saying its knowshons job to lose are going to get drowned out by the ball and hillman supporters.

Its all the same information, you're right about that. But if you only read dynasty threads, you'll probably overdraft sammy watkins and christine michael this year and all but ignore josh mccown and roddy white. And no matter how good you are at keeping these things separate in your head, its still a valid concern for people who only care about redraft and don't want to have to pick through a dynasty thread to see what some guy thinks about cutler in july before he throws a 90 yard bomb to alshon the first play of the first preseason game.
