This is what the Giants get (1 Viewer)

Just read that the Giants' opponents next year combined for 139 wins this year. That is the 2nd most wins any team faces (and the Giants hardly deserve the 2nd hardest schedule). If you remove all the division games and the common games among the Giants, Cowboys, Eagles, and Redskins, here's what's left:Giants have games against Chicago and Seattle.Cowboys have games against Detroit and Arizona.Eagles have games against GreenBay and SanFran.Redskins have games against Minny and StLouis. So not only do the other 3 NFC East teams face non-playoff teams (seriously, not one of those 6 teams made this year's playoffs), but the Giants face the top two teams in all of the NFC (this year's 1 and 2 seeds). Thanks for letting me vent.

this is how it works. not sure what the problem is. When you win your division, you face the other division winners the next year. 2nds faces the other 2nds, and so on. Chicago, Seattle, and Tampa get the same treatment.

This is standard - you play the teams that finished in the same place as you in their division. Giants won their division, so this is the schedule they get. Be proud of your division title instead of moaning about the resulting schedule.

I'll be the first to say it would only be fair if they gave the Giants just 7 home games. :)
Beat me to it. And division winners always get harder schedules than non-division winners. How is this surprising?

Quit your whining. Like other people have already said the teams they play next year were set the second the regular season ended. Maybe next year there will be another unfortunate event and the Giants will get one or more extra home games again.

The joy of winning the division typically means that you get to face good teams the following year. Sure the Giants schedule may look tough now but the salary cap and free agency may change the landscape in the next few months. At the very least, if you're playing a strong schedule, nobody can argue that you end up with an inflated record due to playing subpar opposition. Besides, the Giants tend to play stronger football versus better teams. It's the cupcakes that typically give them problems. I'm looking forward to seeing how we'll match up next year.

Nice already looking for excuse's.The Giants just stink use to it. :yucky:

FYI, the Redskins would have been happy to take that home game in the playoffs from you if they'd known you were going to complain about stuff like this because of winning the division. :bye:

I know how it works. I was just venting. But in response to the replies...Even if you take away that extra 'home' game the Giants had against New Orleans - and made it into a Loss, the Giants still had the most wins in their division. And there is no guarantee at all the Giants would have lost had the game been a true 'Away' game. But even if you assume it would have been - that's still 10 wins (tied with the Redskins and more than the Cowboys and the Eagles). And speaking of New Orleans, it hardly seems fair that of every team's schedule next year - their opponents had the most wins: 145.But yes, I know how it is done - and that is just the way it worked out.

. . . And the 'Skins would have won the tie-breaker . . .

12-4 ;)

With as quickly as teams' fortunes can rise and fall, who's to say the Giants schedule doesn't actually turn out to be easy next year?

Okay, I edited the title to the thread.Does everyone feel better?Hey, I guess it will just be that much sweeter when they win the division again.I predict another 11 win season next year.

It's what happens when you win a division title.Traveling to Seattle again might be the only thing I don't like about the schedule, but all in all it's very fair.:finger: to those that bring up the extra home game. I don't think the Giants forced that. it was imposed by the NFL to play the game there. Is there another city with as many people with disposable income to afford a ticket to an extra NFL game? If you played that game in any other city with such short notice, it would have drawn around 20,000 people. Seeing as profits from that game went directly to charity, it was important the game was played here.

That is all fine and dandy, but considering it gave them an unfair competitive advantage, it shouldn't be hard to understand why some of us find it absurd that a Giants fan would complain about the hard schedule they have next season.

I have no sympathy for the Giants. They got a 9th home game this year.
I agree with the above poster 'ThisGuy' in that the Giants did not ask for that home game. They did not ask for it. They did not start the idea. They were simply approached by the NFL - with a slant towards wanting it there to raise $.

Tell me a team that honestly would have said, "No, Mr. Tags, we will not cooperate. We do not want to have a game here. We'd prefer to travel. And we definitely don't want to help a good cause. Please, let's have it in Arizona where they can't even fill the stands given a whole year to sell tickets - as opposed to being given just this one week prior to the game."

Not complaining - just venting.Seems hard. But it's all good. We'll win the division anyway.

Correct that the league approached the team and not the other way around. But did the Eagles/Redskins/Cowboys request the Giants play a harder schedule this year? No. Hence, the hypocricy of a Giants fan complaining about the implied 2006 strength-of-schedule.If you want to be the best, you have to beat the best. Either you believe your team is championship caliber or you want to limp into the playoffs against inferior opponents. Which is it?

(psst, it was still an extra home game.)

Wow ... I didn't think this thread could get worse for Giants fans but now we've followed up whining about the schedule with having to rehash the extra home game.Do me a favor Hear the Footsteps, don't start a thread whining about our schedule and then brush it off with a "we'll go 11-5 and win anyway". If you truly believe that then there's nothing worth whining about.

In all seriousness, while the overall result of the season was of course positive for the Giants, I think there are some things to be concerned about. Plaxico Burress showed that, while talented, he's not much of a leader and he's not very tough. I don't think he's quite the playmaker they thought they were getting when they signed "the best FA WR" last year.Shockey on a couple of occasions completely lost his cool on the field (e.g. the Lemar Marshall INT in the 2nd Redskins game) and was even accused of quitting during the playoff game along with Burress. Tiki ended the year by saying the team was "outcoached" by Carolina in the playoffs. Eli, while certainly showing development as a QB, still does not have a high completion percentage, remains mistake prone despite the talent around him, and seems not to deal with pressure well. His career has not advanced as fast as Peyton's has. The cornerbacks are probably the worst duo in the division. And every other team in the division has to certainly be mindful that this year was made much easier by Philly's horrible injury problems. They'll be back next year and this will be a four-team race.

I agree that this schedule is unfair to some teams. The Skins will have to play Rams & Vikes with Culpepper & Bulger back. They will be playing teams that are improving and will have much better years in 2006 than in 2005. I don't see how much more unfair you can get.

Plax's baggage was well known to Steeler fans. Some Giants fans may have gotten tunnel vision with the guy, allowing their excitement to gloss over his flaws. Hopefully the guy doesn't continue to go the route of top flight ##### but time will tell. I'd like to think that Plax will realize that he's playing in a huge media market with a young offense that has a lot of weapons. Plax has the ability to be a star in NY provided he can shelf his ego. I'm not convinced he's capable.Shockey loses his cool more times than I can count but by and large he has matured this season. He posted the best numbers of his career and isn't being asked to block nearly as much. I don't ever think the Giants will fully get the redneck out of Jeremy but I'm OK with seasons like the one he just posted.

I'm not concerned with Eli's growth pattern. The completion percentage will improve. It's quite common for young QB's to struggle in this area. The only thing I've seen with Eli that worries me is his ability to protect the ball in the pocket. He proved to be very fumble prone. He also seemed to have an alarmingly high number of throws where he threw a "wounded duck". I'm not exaggerating when I say this was happening at least once a game. The media never pressed him on this and I never heard Coughlin address it, but I've never seen so many throws get away from a QB in my life. However, that being said, I'm confident he'll be a Pro-Bowler within 2 years.

Tiki's comments were out of frustration. He and the coaching staff will be fine.

The secondary is a concern as I'm sure Will Allen won't be resigned. That leaves Will Peterson (assuming he can come back from injury), Corey Webster, Deloatch and Frank Walker. Webster didn't start getting significant playing time until late in the season. I think he'll be starting caliber with more experience. DeLoatch is a physical freak but his technique sucks. If the Giants can coach him up a bit they could wind up with a quality contributor but the jury's definitely out on this one. Walker is nickelback material only. The Giants do need to improve in the secondary but I do think they have the potential to exceed last years performance.

I absolutely agree that the East will be a dogfight next year.

Teams go from good to bad very quickly in the NFL due to FA, coaching changes, injuries, etc. 5 of the 6 NFC teams that made the playoffs this year were not in it last year. So chances are Seattle and Chicago will NOT be the best teams in the NFC. They may not even make the playoffs. So even though they pair up first place teams with the 2 remaining games, I don't believe they are actually getting harder schedules. This past season, looking in retrospect, the Redskins actually had one of the hardest schedules in the NFL. And they finished last in their conference last year.

What, upset you don't get an extra home game again this year?Suck it up.

Look at it this way, you get to go see Chicago and Seattle while I get stuck riding into town to see Green Bay and San Fran... yet again... :yucky:

And speaking of New Orleans, it hardly seems fair that of every team's schedule next year - their opponents had the most wins: 145.
Hay Carumba their schedule is tough. Even the two cupcakes they play (Green Bay and Cleveland) are played away...winning at the dawg pound or lambeau isn't a walk in the park.

And their stadium smells like crap. Maybe with some Vicks Vapo-Rub they can turn that into a homefield advantage.

Don't only 2 or 3 games change when you win a division? If they win in the division they won't need to worry about the rest of the schedule.

Redskin opponents this year had 138 victories if my count is correct. It's a good way to get ready for the playoffs.
