This is why Brett Favre is a big deal (1 Viewer)

I admit it. I've come out and pissed and moaned about Favre as much as anyone. He quit on my team. He intentionally sought out the chance to pee in the Packers fans' cornflakes. But there is a reason I care about his legacy so much. He gets a ton of attention because this is how he plays the game. I'm not sure why I watched this video today. I guess it was to remind myself of how much fun I had with my family and friends watching my idol since my first year in college. I remember the joy he brought to my neck of the woods for so many years. It was an annual tradition of joy and fun. I went to his first start in Lambeau with my brothers. Brett was on the TV when I proposed to my wife (halftime though of course). He played his best game ever after his father passed on and I sat with my 5 day old first daughter in my arms. Tears in my eyes watching him win one for his old man.

So maybe its time for this bitter Packer fan to just acknowledge that it hurt when he left even though I like Rodgers a lot. Time to put the bad vibes behind and just enjoy watching this guy play, because once he's gone, it ends an era. Make no mistake about it. He's a big deal. He's got as many admirers as perhaps any man in the world. He's a big deal because he's what most guys wish they were (well on the field anyway). How can you watch this and not love it?

I Missed You Brett.

I have always admired and enjoyed watching him play even though he played for one of the two teams I hated most. He was always fun to watch and last year watching him QB my favorite team was icing on the cake. I was more upset during the NFC championship game because the season was over than I was because he threw the pick and they weren't going to the superbowl because it was such a fun and magical season to watch. No matter what people say, he will be greatly missed when he does finally keep his word and not come back because love him or hate him, he had an aura about him that made him very fun to watch. I wish the media wouldn't gush over him so much because that is part of the reason the majority of people don't like him IMO.

Pretty entertaining. Boy he sure does respect Chilly doesn't he? How many times did he talk back to and belittle him in just that small video? Chilly should just steer clear of Brett on Sundays and let the OC and Brett figure out the gameplan.

Yeah I noticed that too, There wasn't a normal conversation between them...it was awesome.

My favorite was the him grabbing the pylon at the end, idk why but it caught me as extra hilarious

He's a great QB and I love watching him play. I do think he has tarnished his legacy with the texting deal. One thing I notice is he really likes touching and slapping male butts.

Almost every old Favre video you see will have him doing that...just really giving them a nice stinging smack. When asked if they mind, his teammates respond, at least he is not texting me. :)

No worries. It was fun as hell watching and rooting for this guy for my entire twenties and into my thirties. Every year we were in the hunt.

is that link safe for work?

Meh, nobody really knows what happened. And you know what, I don't really care.
My last post got deleted.....you can like him all you want on the field, but it's hard to root for him with the way he is off the field. Even if you don't believe the croc pics story, he's got a ton of allegations against him as far as him hitting on other chicks. Where there's smoke, there's fire. Add in the addiction to painkillers and the wishy washy retirement spiel every year and it all adds to a guy that is very from from a "good guy".

The retirement flip-flopping never bothered me. I can only imagine how hard of a choice it would be to leave something you love behind like that. And I understand the painkiller addiction. It's not like he got addicted to crack or meth...But I agree with you about him hitting on girls like that, it's inexcusable.

Based on the Packer fan treatment of Brett when he's played in Green Bay since leaving, most of them must think he quit on them. Otherwise you'd think someone who did so much for their franchise would be treated a lot better, like the way the Philly fans applauded McNabb this year when they played the Redskins...

As a Vikings fan, I can sympathize. I hated when Moss was traded and really hated watching him in NE. But I got over it. It's the nature of the game--not too many players stay with one team for whole career.

He did?
I'm not getting that one either. I also don't get the whole "I must hate Favre cuz he's playing for the Vikings" stuff that so many Packer fans have. That makes no sense to me. The Packers didn't want him. They told him directly they had moved on. So why shouldn't he be allowed to play for a potentially great team that badly needed a QB? Blame him for the drama. I think even the most devout Favre fans will agree he's a drama queen. But I don't understand why anyone should begrudge him the opportunity to play football for the best team that needed him. He'll always be a legend with the Packers in my opinion. He's earned that and unless he goes O.J. on someone I don't think it should ever be taken away from him.

I thought the Eagles fans showed a lot of class with how they responded to McNabb this season. And it was surprising considering how rocky that relationship had been. Pity Packer fans couldn't have followed suit with Favre last season.

The comparison between the ending of Favre's career in Green Bay vs. the ending of McNabb's career in Philly. McNabb had no control whatsoever, and he never put himself ahead of the team. Favre put himself ahead of the team for years in Green Bay. He's still putting himself ahead of the team in Minnesota, it's just Minnesota is obviously so desperate to win, they'll put up with it.

IMO the Packers treated Favre worse at the end of his career their than the Eagles treated McNabb. If the Packers wanted to move on with Rodgers they should have done what the Eagles did with McNabb, just go ahead and trade Favre.

The Packers didn't want to trade Favre. Like I said it's my opinion that Favre put himself ahead of the team which made it easier to not bring him back after saying he'd retired and then unretired :lmao:

He just wanted to keep playing football. I wouldn't call that puting yourself ahead of the team.

Sure, he wanted to play football but always on his terms and always seperating himself. You're a Viking fan.....you've witnessed the first private jet with Chilly picking him up incident. Then this year the 3 Vikings that took the jet down to beg him to come play. Skipping any offseason and training camps. And who do you think lobbied hardest to get Moss into town? He has been putting himself above his team for many years. Personally I think you're just :pokey: for argument's sake.

I don't agree at all on the "he quit on his team". The Packers quit on Favre, and no matter how well Rodgers does, I will never forgive TT for the way they treated Favre at the end. Why the hell (at his age) would he come back and back up Rodgers? What's the point? I'm a Packers fan and a Favre fan, but I will always appreciate what Favre brought to the team and always hate TT. In terms of people saying he's not a team guy...IMO there is nothing more you can do for your team than to play with your whole heart EVERY SINGLE GAME. No one has ever come close to accomplishing what he has in terms of never missing a game. There isn't a fan out there who wouldn't want that for their team.

I was actually thinking that about you. Favre didn't ask the Vikings to fly around and get him. I just don't get all the Packer hate for a guy who won them a Superbowl.I think bbuster addressed everything well in his post.

I don't have hate for Favre at all. I just don't like how he handles himself. Like I mentioned to bbuster, we have differing opinions, which is okay. Have a good weekend! Looking forward to SNF

A the situations were quite different.B. They also booed McNabb and burned his jersey in the parking lot.

I don't hate Thompson (though admittedly I'm not a huge fan) but my belief is both he and Favre made terrible decisions throughout that entire saga. I don't think either one was totally right nor do I believe either one was totally wrong. It was an unfortunate situation which grew out of control due in my opinion to equal parts Favre's ego and Thompson's ego. As far as quitting on the Packers, I agree that makes no sense. Few players in that team's history put more on the field than Favre did. For that, Packer fans should be eternally grateful and I find it curious how much anger there is toward Favre from many of them. They act like spurned lovers only they aren't the ones who were spurned. Favre was. Again, blame Favre for not handling his "retirement" the way you could hope for but at the end of the day all he wanted to do was play and the Packers made it clear they didn't want him on their team. That was their decision and they were the ones who traded him. Why so many Packer fans can't seem to figure that out is what I'll never understand.

I'm fine with Favre's legacy as a player but not much else.

He intentionally hurt fans that had his back(be didn't have theirs). The sooner he stops playing the better.

You mean the same fans that brought out the venom as soon as he decided he wanted to play again? With "fans" like that....who needs enemies?

Question for you: QB Aaron Rodgers was quoted earlier in the season as saying that he wanted the Packers to go out and get Marshawn Lynch at running back after Ryan Grant went down for the year. Was his doing that (lobbying probably five-times harder away from the media than the bit that made it in front of cameras and audio recorders) "putting himself above the team?"Even when Favre was still a member of the Packers, I didn't see him lobbying for Moss, or telling Javon Walker to get with the program, or ________ as him putting himself above the team. I took it as he wanted the team to do everything it could to win. He's a player who has given a lot over his career to put butts in the seats (and dollars in the NFL's and owners' pockets), and when he thinks the team is close to getting into that rarefied air (Super Bowl), he wants them to get it done.

It bothers me that his refusal to participate in mini-camps and Training Camp hurts the team related to the timing of the offense and the timing of him and the WRs, in particular. However, even then, I assume that he is doing it because he probably feels it will give the team the best chance to win in the end. Keeping his arm/body as fresh as he can. The thing that bothers me though is that he won't just come out and say that. He has to go through all the drama of retiring, then having inklings of a return, then riding in on a golden chariot in August to save the day.

Just say out in the open that he wants to substantially reduce the wear and tear on his body and then let him be around to build rapport and go over days worth of film with the WR, RB, TE and O-Line. Then if Childress, or Wilf, or Goodell, or whomever doesn't like it? Cross that bridge when you get there. Just be honest about the situation though.

As to Vikings fans vs. Packer fans, I think the primary difference is this: Vikings fans realize that the NFL is a business. A business whose products have only gotten more expensive, even when the economy has gone South in recent years. Packer fans? It's a religion...or at bare-minimum some sort of cult. Favre doing what's best for Favre is like a priest holding out for a 50% pay raise before giving the weekly sermon and hearing confession. Whereas when you realize that professional football is a business, you understand why a HOF player at the end of his career wants to take it easy on his body while getting wooed, respected and PAID. As the next time you'll be hearing #4's name called in relation to the NFL, it'll be in Canton in 2016. Favre taking care of Favre?! Of course he is! Wouldn't you?

Absolutely. See, it was the Packers who offered him $20 Million to retire and he rejected them. They were loyal and he quit on them. It's pretty clear cut.
So the Packers wanted him to quit, and he didn't want to quit. So you think he quit on them? :bag:

My thoughts exactly. Hey Packers fans, I'll give you $200 ( about the equal to what they offered Favre in athlete terms) to never watch football again in your life. You may love it but I don't care, I don't want you to do it any more. If you don't take this offer I'll consider you a quitter. Does this make any sense to you? I know you're going to say I'm not your team and you don't owe me anything where Favre did. BS the guy LOVES to play football and they wanted him to stop. You only have so many years in you're life to be able to do something like that and I don't blame him one bit for wanting to keep playing. He didn't quit on the Packers, the Packers wanted to move on without him and didn't want him to play for anyone else so they tried to force him to retire. He also almost retired for them like 6 times!

Exactly. I think the Pack trying to keep him retired was one of their biggest mistakes. I know that if i played for a team for 16 years, never missed a game for that team, and never gave them anything other than my best effort only to hear "we're moving on with Rodgers...oh and btw we also don't want you to play for anyone else...so here's a big paycheck...please stay retired". I would be pissed! Personally, I wouldn't feel that I owed them anything at that point and in fact, I would be out to kick their ####$ when I played against them.

I admit it. I've come out and pissed and moaned about Favre as much as anyone. He quit on my team.
He did?
Absolutely. See, it was the Packers who offered him $20 Million to retire and he rejected them. They were loyal and he quit on them. It's pretty clear cut.
Wow, that is some serious spinning. So when the packers tell Farve is he too old to play for them, he should just quit and accept that it is his time to go to pastor. Then when Farve proves them wrong and he puts up two more outstanding years, it is Farve who is the one who quit? Seems clear it is the Packers who quit on Farve.
