Anyone who enjoys sports should have a healthy sense of competition. Nothing is better than see two opponents on a level playing field fighting each other on the basis of skill and skill alone. But over the years the Al East has been a complete and total joke. Teams like the Red Sox and Yankees don't win on skill. They win because their pocketbooks are bigger. And don't give me the argument that there have been high payroll teams that don't win. Everyone knows it makes it a LOT easier to compete.

The East is a joke. Anyone who enjoys sports as competition should not have one ounce of respect for the teams like the Yankees, and the way things are going the Red Sox. They are trash. Don't cry for Yankee Stadium. Its a dishonorable hole in the ground that won't be missed, and neither will the memories of their cheap and tainted "world titles".

Sure its nice the Rays are competing this year, but they can't compete long term with the Yankee and Red Sox Dollar, and the way baseball is structured that's all that matters.

At least in the AL Central, you don't have franchises that have enormous advantages in money. A real sports fan could actually pull for any of these teams.

But the East is a friggin joke.

I've always referred to the Yankees rings as ##ss# titles. Be men and compete on a level playing field. Don't hide behind that skirt you call a big payroll.

I agree for the most part about the lack of parity due to $$...the playoffs are a large % luck..so IMO the Rockies, Marlins, etc don't sway me.

That said...it just goes to show how amazing this year by the Rays is.

Sooo...because you think the rules major league baseball drafted are not fair you think the AL East is a joke, got it.

Misdirected hostility?

:( The Rays are in 1st, Yanks in 4th. And theres 3 teams in the East not named the Yanks or Sox. So please tell me how the AL East is a joke. Dont u mean just Yanks and Sox?

There are some things you tend to be spot on about, and then there are things you're not.

This is one of those things where you're not, BGP.

:(

The Red Sox and Yankees should be awarded a title based upon which team wins the season series and not be eligible for post-season play. This award, I think, is more important to both teams as well as ESPN. ESPN can have all the rights to their games(if they don't already).

Maybe then I could root for a season in stead of just one game at a time.

One more thing, Yankee and Redsox fans shouldn't be able to travel to away games. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Once you start winning, everyone becomes a fan of that team so no one really travels.

AL Central? The White Sox, Tigers, and Red Sox had very similar pay rolls last year.

Spoken like a bitter downtrodden O's fan.

TOP 10 MLB PAYROLLS (all the $100 Million Dollar Teams)

1 (1) Yankees $209,081,579 AL EAST

2 (9) Tigers $138,685,197 AL CENTRAL (An Increase of $43,504,828 since 2007... largest in MLB)

3 (3) Mets $138,293,378

4 (2) Red Sox $133,440,037 AL EAST (A Decrease of $10,086,177 since 2007...largest in MLB))

5 (4) White Sox $121,152,667 AL CENTRAL

6 (5) Angels $119,216,333 AL WEST

7 (8) Cubs $118,595,833

8 (6) Dodgers $118,536,038

9 (7) Mariners $117,993,982 AL WEST

10 (13) Braves $102,424,018

11 (12) Cardinals $100,624,450

It's pretty much the Yankees... then everyone else. Not sure how you can claim that's an unfair advantage when they're not winning. They've blown through well over $1 Billion over the last 8 years with nothing to show for it title wise.

Good trivia question: Who was the last MLB team to lead the league in payroll before the Yankees?mytagid = Math.floor( Math.random() * 100 );document.write("

The 1998 Baltimore Orioles. I'm sure our good buddy avoiding injuries was denouncing this unfair advantage back then.

Ah Yes, the last year we had a winning record. This was also the time that the Orioles were trying hard to compete and block a team from going to Washington. :headbang:
