This week's games are the most critical... (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

If you skipped a lot of the preseason games, you might want to tune in this weekend. Odds are that whoever you see take the field with the starting unit this weekend, will likely start in week 1 of the season unless injuries have something to do with why they are in there. In weeks 1 and 4 you see a lot of garbage that might not make the roster, but this week is the final dress rehearsal if you will for the 2008 season.

Example: Last night I think for sure we now know that JT OSullivan is the starter(most sharks knew for the past few weeks), but I also feel like he will be up and down most of the year and I don't take his stats in the preseason all that seriously, however I do think you have to respect the fact he continues to operate with the 1st unit.

Another guy that made a big leap last night on the 49ers was probably Jason Hill(Sorry), and if he slides into the WR3/4 slot, he might make a very nice late addition to your roster...most guys will not draft him. He is a 2nd year wideout from WSU, and he looks like he is starting to get it...he made Mike Brown look trerrible last night and he got good seperation...Isaac Bruce will not be running fly patterns, and Hill might be the deep threat, easily could crack the top40-50 this year.

Keep an open mind as you watch the games this weekend. It would be nice if people would check in and share what they are observing...much tougher to view all the preseason games vs watching a ton on the Ticket in week 1.

Great post MOP. Things I am looking for. How does the Rams O-Line fare tomorrow night. Not televised in St. Louis, so I need some Baltimore homer help here.

Beyond that the things that most intrigue me are Perry vs. the Saints and Ricky against KC. Slaton against Dallas tonight is also something to look at as well as Rice vs the Rams tomorrow.

I want to see how Mendenhall runs against the vaunted Viking run D. I also want to see what Hightower can do against Oak.

I also want to see what Kevin Smith does against the Browns.

And most of all I want Sept. 4th to be here so I can get my game on. It's like the weeks leading up to Christmas and I'm 4 all over again....

Chase says it's not smart to put much weight into these games. I'm torn. :hifive:
This is the one game to put weight into. Next week will be all scrubs. This week we see the first teamers the whole first half usually and some of the second for younger guys that need the work...

I guarantee you it will seem as if all offensive questions for the Bengals were answered on Saturday night. Leinart and Schaub looked like MVP candidates vs the Saints in weeks 1 and 2.

Chase is right. But notice I am not saying use the stats as a gauge for the season, but more about who is going to be starting intiially anyways. Don't put a ton of weight into the stats, but do pay attention to who is under center, who starts at wideout, who is getting the 1st team snaps...these games mean a lot this weekend.

Exactly. It's more of a gauge of who is going to have the opportunity to perform. Skill without opportunity doesn't do a whole lot. Mendenhall may look fantastic but FWP is the starter for the foreseeable future. But in a situation like Miami, Brown is coming back from a severe injury. Ricky may not be as good as RB at RW's age, but it looks like he will get the opportunity, etc. Look at the WR's. Will Royal get the opportunity to play opposite Marshall this season, etc?
