Thomas Jones (1 Viewer)

My good buddy Righetti and I had a sig bet earler in the offseason regarding Thomas Jones. I have been a believer since his days in TB, and after last season I swore that he has the ability to be a top-5 fantasy back. I think he was previously one of the most underrated talents at the position in the whole league. He can do it all.My GB swore up and down that he was a bum. We made a sig bet, prior to the Benson signing that, if TJ can stay healthy for a whole season and can start for a full season, he would be a top-10 fantasy RB, and potentially top-5. (sadly, I cannot locate the thread, and my GB, who bumped it after the Benson signing to rub it in my face, conveniently is now forgetting the bet -- so if anyone can dig up this thread, I would greatly appreciate it).Well, here we are approaching week 7. Thomas Jones, in standard scoring, is right now sitting at #4, just 4 points behind Mcgahee (will probably fall to #5 tonight after Edge plays). In PRR leagues I suspect he is even higher.I don't believe in Benson, I thought the drafting of Benson was a complete and total waste for that team, and I don't see Jones being replaced anytime soon the way he is playing now. He could very well finish in the top 10, even WITH the Benson drafting.Any thoughts generally on Thomas Jones? I'd particularly be curious to hear from those who bashed him all offseason. Have your impressions changed? Were you wrong, or are you still unconvinced? Thanks.

For a 5th round pick, he sure is paying off more than Portis in the 2nd. TJ should have had 4 TD's yesterday.

this just goes to show that Caddy is the MAJOR exception, and not the rule.

The ones who I remember bashing him the most were Groovus, FreeBageL, and CalBear. They've been noticably absent from all Thomas Jones threads lately.

Stay healthy, TJ. He's a lock for the top 10 if he does.

Oh, and I loved this...

John Mullin, of the Chicago Tribune, reports Chicago Bears RB Cedric Benson struggled Week 6 against the Minnesota Vikings. He gained only two yards on three carries and also missed a blocking assignment that almost resulted in a turnover and a Vikings defensive score. Benson was supposed to help OT John St. Clair but Minnesota Vikings DL Lance Johnstone blew by him and sacked QB Kyle Orton, forcing a fumble that was returned for a touchdown before the play was nullified by a penalty. After that, RB Adrian Peterson was used in relief of RB Thomas Jones.

I think this is the week that Benson finds a new home on somebody else's roster.

I pronounce thee Cedric Bustson

Before the season started I claimed that Thomas Jones would be this year's Drew Brees. Both had their team's draft a rookie to replace them in the Top 5 of the draft... both had the rookies hold out and miss almost all of training camp... both have some talent (Jones was a top 10 pick; Brees and early 2nd rounder)...And in how many of my leagues did I draft Thomas Jones??? Zero... :bag:

Me too.

Solid outing against BAL. Thomas Jones remains top-5 in standard scoring through week 7. :pickle:

Better yet, don't let Cedric hear it, he might  On a serious note, I think it's a sad reality that at some point, regardless of whether it's deserved, Benson will probably get a shot at overtaking Jones, simply because of his high draft spot. The Bears won't want to admit it was a mistake. And sadly, as a result, the much better NFL player here (Thomas Jones) will probably get swept under the carpet again. Sad because I think he is one of the more talented RBs in the NFL. Hopefully he can put together the complete season this year that he has been missing so far, and maybe people will start taking him seriously.

True, they'll likely have to give Benson a shot since they drafted him at #4 and paying him a ton. That said, Jones I'm sure has continued to open eyes around the league, and may find some willing suitors next year if he demands a trade. Only problem is you have guys like Alexander, Edge, Westbrook and the rookies to compete with.

Also a shout out should go to Steeler4Life, who I know was high on Jones all of last year. I also had him last year, and was impressed what he did with no talent around him but missed a chance to get him this year :(

He is saving one of my teams.. Him and Jordan.. I thought I was doomed after investing in the Denver RB's.. To my surprise TJ has given me my #2 RB.. Jordan #1 and to top it off I got LJ for next year.. ;) .. I love my team next year.

The thing that can ultimately keep Jones holding off Benson is the Bears staying in the hunt for the NFC North crown. As long as the Bears have a chance at that playoff spot, they have to keep their only offensive weapon out there.Edit to add......Two years in a row I have sung Jones' praises seeing him in training camp. At camp he was head and shoulders better than Thomas, and now Benson. He is a solid back.

Thanks! On this board, it hasn't been easy being a supporter of him over the last few years! I've got him 2 dynasty leagues - one, I picked him up when he was on Tampa Bay to be Pittman's backup. In the other, I traded my 2006 1st rounder and Michael Jenkins to get him and a 2nd rounder a few weeks back.I can understand why people who only looked at numbers still considered him the same back he was in Arizona. Thing is, he looked great running for Tampa Bay in 2004, and I really liked what I saw of him last year with limited help around him. He's obviously turned the corner and become a very good NFL RB, but some people still don't get it.

People scoff about Kyle Orton, but the guy has a good arm and at least has the THREAT of a downfield pass that wasn't there last year.

Before the season started I claimed that Thomas Jones would be this year's Drew Brees.
 If you made this claim, I missed it. For the record, I made my call on Aug 5th: "Hey Cedric, Phillip Rivers just called and he wants his career-derailing holdout act back."You did, however, write on Sep 16th (regarding the 49ers) "I think 6-5 would not be out of the question, and 8-8 in the NFC could slip them into the playoffs (or even win that awful division), making them this year's Chargers and Tim Rattay this year's Drew Brees. Nice call. :P

i smell a sig-betOtis,if Thomas Jones finishes in the top 10, I will post the followingThomas Jones is well on his way to be the next Walter Paytonif he finished in the top 5, I will post Thomas Jones is the next Walter PaytonIF he does not finish in the top 10 you will post the following as your sig for 1 yearThomas Jones is the next Adrian Murrell
I do not have access to any standard scoring rankings, but I think Thomas Jones finished the season a top-10 RB. Can someone please confirm who the top-ten RBs are in standard scoring format?TIA

Thomas Jones is RB 9 in most standard scoring systems. He is going to be a difficult choice for people to make in 2006 with Benson back looming.

Thomas Jones = NY Jets Starting RB in 2006 with NY sending their 2nd rd pick to Chicago

Wow, that's not that bad. I think the Jets have a lot of decisions to make and the least of their worries is RB. They could use next year to see if Houston is worthy. But it does have merit.
