will the Bears turn around the running game, or are both Jones and Benson doomed to be worthless this season? i'm thinking i can scoop up TJones cheap and i'm in need of RBs. if you've traded him (or for him), what was the deal?

I personally am holding him in the one league I have him. I suspect he'll get better. He's proven in the past that the talent is there. I also don't think Benson is going to be a factor, at least too much, this year barring a total team collapse, which I highly doubt will happen. I think the Bears are for real.

I've seen TJ traded twice so far this year and both times it was for next to nothing. Once was for Lamont Jorden. I'd far greater prefer TJ at this point over Lamont.

If you can get him cheaply, I'd say it's a big profit for anyone who does.

Don't underestimate Thomas Jones, because the team has been throwing more this year. Once teams stop trying to stop the run all the time and play the pass more (usually they don't respect the pass because it is Rex Grossman)... running lanes will open up.

BUT... I would definitely rather have Lamont Jordan. Don't give up on him. All they need is one stable QB to run the offense and Jordan's numbers will skyrocket.

I don't buy this argument -- last season Kyle Orton was the QB last year, everyone knew they were going to run the ball, and TJ still managed to successfully. This year, with marked improvement at QB, he can't run the ball. Something is wrong in Chicago - whether it's TJ, the O-line or a combination of both - they just aren't as effective right now.

i kind of agree with this take. having said that, i do think TJones can be had pretty cheap, and that he cannot possibly get any worse. it certainly doesn't look like Benson is getting the gig anytime soon, and i can't see TJones averaging < 3ypc all season on a team that's not having any trouble scoring. my question is, whats a fair offer for him? i just offered Colston for Jones straight up in a keeper league. i think it might be a bit low, but the way our league is setup, young players have added value. what other WRs would be a fair offer for Jones?

Wow, I am thinking of cutting him because I have so many rbs and need the roster spot.
One man's trash in another man's treasure. If you are in a 12 team league, and a few teams are loaded with RB's, then with the recent injuries and bye weeks some teams are DESPERATE for RB's. You can surely trade him for an upgrade at WR, QB, etc. If an 8 team league, maybe not..

I've been watching the games and just think the holes aren't there yet, partially due to not getting into the flow (both Jones and the oline) and partially due to the limited run plays. However, I personally like the T Jones/Benson combo for this year and think they're at an all-time low right now.

Factors:

- Exact same offensive line as last year

- Same backs, neither is coming off a serious injury

- Bears have a weak schedule and strong defense; the passing will slow down, especially as teams take away some of the things Grossman is doing the most right now (lots of TE, certain routes, etc.). Eventually, his success will slow down.

- The weather and conditions in Chicago

The Bears are fundamentally a run-first team still. At some point, they will force the issue in my opinion. To me, they just haven't been patient enough with it yet because they haven't needed to be. Last year, there was NO CHOICE but to kill a few drives by forcing the running game. This year, the Bears aren't having to punt NEARLY as much, but only because they are bending to what the defense gives them (passing game). I think it will balance out.

Figured I'd fire this thread up tonight.... Benson not doing much.... but god,.... Lovie's run calling is crap, is the o-line somehow not good in the running game?

This is clearly a passing team, as they should be, the way Grossman, Moose, and Berrian have been playing. But that should help open up some space for the running game. But i think they will stay a pass oriented team all year.

Pulled off a pretty good trade for him last week. I gave up Fred Taylor, Kevan Barlow and Randy Moss for Fitzgerald and T. Jones.
