Thoughts on the Panther D after Sunday... (1 Viewer)

I don't like to overreact, but a lot of things added up are starting to bother me about the Panther D, thought to be a top to top 5 (some had #1) defense.

Couldn't stop the run vs. ATL

Morgan suffers another concussion, status unclear

Offense a question mark with Smith out, so won't have big leads to force other teams to throw

Schedule - doesn't look that easy -

Maybe this is like NO in game 1 last season. I have nothing more than hope to back this up, but I think they turn it up about four orders of magnitude from here out.

LB is going to be the problem area all season long, perhaps. When does Diggs get back?

We have serious problems at LB, but the rest of the D should be fine. One game in and I'm not worried........yet. I actually don't think our schedule looks bad, some good opposing defenses....but no real offensive powerhouse until week 7.

:banned:

Falcons offense did their part by getting out to an early lead and the Falcons D did their part by holding that lead.

End result?

They just got creamed by the NFL's #1 ranked rushing team for the past two years.

Now if the Panthers had gotten out to the early lead and held it, I bet the rushing yards their D gave up would've been drastically different.

I don't know what it is, but I avoided the Panthers defense this year. I ended up with Chicago and Baltimore.

I just had a feeling that the Panthers D was overrated. Their D-linemen are old and injury prone (other than Peppers). They have a good secondary, but the LB's are questionable as well.

I was burned by them a few years back (maybe that's why I avoided them this year). But it just seems like they can't stay healthy enough or they don't have the horses to stop the run.

I envision more of the same...I just got that feeling.

Old?!?! Whose old other the Rucker? And even away from the d-line the only old player I can think of is Minter...

:o Wow! I honestly thought they were all in their 30's! They certainly play that way! :lmao: They aren't very good either way. And certainly the LB's.

I dunno. On our free agent wire are the Falcons (team may be really good right now, and Abraham is a huge addition for sacks and forcing interceptions), Chargers, etc..
