Because I'm a software developer, I have access all day at work, so I can spend FF time at work when I'm not working on a hot project. So on the average I look at FF for 30 min before work, and at least 2 hrs average per day at work (when I'm not actually working, so times may vary), and 3 hrs every night M-F. then probably 12 hrs on the weekend for a grand total of 39.5 to 40+ hrs per week in Fantasy Football.

One thing I have to do is spend every night at least 2 hrs (M-F), and all day on Saturday with the wife when she doesn't work. That's our agreement. How many of you have had marital problems because of fantasy sports? Do you have a similar agreement with your wife / girlfriend?

I know of a couple owners who have lost their wife / girlfriend because they spend too much time on fantasy sports. I hope that my agreement with my wife is a good one, because if it wasn't I would do something about it.

Zero, zilch, none, nada. I never waste my time on the stuff. I have a life.
Bruce, I know you are a liar. Hell, you are right on time late at night when the waivers run to see who drops who. You spend more time on FF than anyone I know.
By the way, flawed poll. Where's the 10-20 hours per day category? :excited:
LOL

I'm only in college....but have found it severely detrimental to study habits. I have found that I load my spring semester up so I can slack off on courses in the fall. God knows I can't even look at a book on Sundays.

Not quite as hardcore as you gentlemen, but I would put myself in the 20-25+ hrs category.

I constantly surf the shark pool and fantasy sites. Probably like 3 hours at work, when I should be working and 2 or 3 hours at home a day. And then a few hours on Saturday and Sunday I watch the games while hovering over my laptop...its sad really. And my girlfriend HATES it

Does everyone else look back and see how much other stuff they could have accomplished if they weren't scouring the waiver wire, injury reports, trade possabilities for hours at a time?

before i quit my job i would spend the entire lunch hour on ff, and about 3 hours at night a week...then 4-6 hours a weekend...my gf is seriously threatening to castrate me..but i think i could live without her sex, but not without ff

My wife is cool with this. She is a mild fan of the NFL, but when I won three $$$ league titles and told her she got to help spend the dough with me, I got a lot of cache for now, and down the road.

She also believes there are a lot more dangerous and vile hobbies and, uh--diversions--I could be spending my time on besides FFB. She is correct. <ahem> I am an honest less than 10 a week, not counting watching the main game on Sunday (Seahawks)

So far...bliss. Plus, after the fantasy playoffs I dont spend tons of time prepping for next season---I got Footballguys.com for that.

Hey--It could be much worse....I could be into fantasy baseball, which is an April to October mess.

Now this is just a patent lie.

A ton of time...

Let's see; every morning when I wake up the first thing I do is fire up a smoke, drink a cup of coffee, fire up my laptop and start surfing the FF sites....say 30 minutes before I jump in the shower..

During the day; maybe 30 minutes. At night; at least 3 hours. On the weekends....probably 5-6 hours each day (excluding watching the games, researching injuries, etc.)

Total time per week.....30-35 hours per week.

Throw in that I also do a NASCAR pool which pretty much lasts all year long. I would say I invest 600 hours during football season (inclusive of pre-draft prep) and another 100 hours on NASCAR.....mmmm; 700 hours, 40 hour work week...almost 18 weeks a year.....

Wow....never thought of it that way....but I also like the challenge and better yet....winning!!!

The last 4 years....4 Superbowl titles, 2 2nd place finishes and 1 3rd.....I think it takes work in order to do well....otherwise it would be all about the draft.....

And do what? Get married and have kids? Whatever dude, now let me go back and do my research on this David Patten guy from New Orleans.

Count me in at 30+. The only way I could justify this amount of time was by playing multiple high stakes leagues...

 How true that is. You have to click at 11:59:59 to make a waiver wire pickup, hoping your click gets registered at 12:00:00, or you'll never beat him to the guy you want.

10 -20 I say. And it would be less if people in the room would stop interupting me. "Honey, I know I spend a little time on this, but I'm investing the initial setup time to develop long term strategies that will save time in the long run." That's my story for the last two years and I'm sticking to it.

Yes. None of it seems worth doing, though.

I spend a lot more time "surfing the net" than I need to.

I play in 4 or 5 football and baseball leagues per year. All of my leagues have organized WW systems that run either Wed or Thurs night with drop/adds thereafter. Set lineups on Sunday. My record would be the same in these leagues with a time allocation of ~ 30 to 45 minutes per week per league (a little less because there are economy of scales). Don't need to really do much in advance of Wed evening. Yeah there's a lot of excitement in the SP on topics that break before then, but the reality is that 99% of that "breaking news" is blasted on the CBS homepage before WW are run or before lineups are set Sunday a.m.

So again, its tough to seperate time surfing the net because I'm bored at work or after the wife goes to bed (she goes early during the week) and I sift through sports websites to find out free agent rumors, drug busts, etc.

Fantasy Sports has become "mainstream" and there is much more "market efficiency" with regards to information. I spend a lot of time in the SP because I am interested in some of the topics, the reality is that it provides a de minimis return on my investment for fantasy purposes (outside of during draft times in August)

wow , let's see.

I'm in 9 football leagues (cut back the last 2 years) and 2 nascar leagues.

about 15 minutes each morning.(before my wife wakes up)

about 2 hours when I get home from work. (before my wife gets home from work)

about 30 minutes before I go to bed.

2 hours on saturday.

1 hour sunday morning before church.

off and on the rest of the day sunday. (maybe another 3 hours)

that all adds up to about 20 hours.

sort of like a part time job.

lol

look on the bright side.

my wife doesn't complain as much as she used to.

as you get older (I'm over 50 now) , things will get better.

once she starts going thru menopause, she will want to spend less time with you.

meaning less sex and more time for FF.

besides , fantasy sports will be the only fantasies she will want you to have.

or they may be the only fantasies you can have unless you get viagra.

maybe that's why I keep getting all those spam emails for viagra.

anyway, on a more serious note.

if she complains, take her serious.

don't let it effect your relationship.

just tell her you are cutting back for her.

that will make her feel more loved.

at least until you get caught again.

I can spend up to 12 hours on a Sunday alone - TV and a laptop.

It begins with NFL network about 9:00 a.m. CST, and goes through the Sunday night game. All day, I'm either watching a play, checking live scoring in all my leagues, looking over everyone else's roster for the ten millionth time trying to find a trade proposal that works, or wading through all the crappy posts in the SP. Plus I usually carry on several IM conversations about FF throughout the day. Luckily I'm divorced.

like... sleep? Be competent at my job?

Welcome to my world. Although my grades haven't suffered, I often find myself crunching in the morning before assignments are due or before a test. I tell myself I am going to study, but I just can't.

Have any of you woken up on purpose because waivers opened at a certain time? One of my leagues a while back was set up to FCFS, which wasn't very fair. Anyways, I remember waking up at 3 AM, with alarm might I add, to make the pickup. Sad.

My wife calls herself a FF widow starting about mid august. I'm only in 2 leagues so the necessity isn't so bad. I just love it.

I don't think she minds so much as long as I don't let any important stuff slide for to long.

Plus the way I see it. I'm always home on the computer or watching the games. I'm not out at the bars or running around getting in trouble.

:LawSchool: This was horrible for me. Graduated just fine, but I had no motivation to work my ### of to get all A's. I'm just not sure if FF was a symptom or the cause?

I've been able to keep my FF to <10 hours per week. Can't say the same for Baseball. That requires much more time investment than FF. I actually think FF is the downtime for fantasy, as its pretty easy to stay caught up with what's going on without checking every single day (thank God for FBG). What do I have to know on Wednesdays that I won't find out on Saturday/Sunday? In fact, news that occurs Tues-Thurs can often be "noise".

Anyone who has "lost" a wife or GF due to FF is a loser. Period. No debate.

Anyone who puts FF over their kids is an ultimate loser.

Work it in when you can.

I lost a wife once to a drummer in a band in 1980. I can't go into bars with live music, because when I do I always pick a fight with the drummer :lmao:
