time to drop greg jennings? (1 Viewer)

Just saw he will have surgery with no timetable...
Says it's not season-ending:From Rotoworld:Greg Jennings will undergo surgery to repair an abdominal tear next Tuesday in Philadelphia. As coach Mike McCarthy suggested earlier in the day, the surgery will not be season-ending in nature. Jennings offered no timetable for his return, however, upon announcing the decision Thursday afternoon. In retrospect, Jennings regrets trying to return to the field after suffering the groin injury in Week 1. It's shaping up as a lost season for the impending free agent. Randall Cobb and James Jones are locked in as every-week WR2 options, perhaps for the rest of the fantasy season.

Yea season ending could mean he could be available for the playoffs. Is he really worth a roster spot considering he would be very risky in the fantasy playoffs?

Playoffs is roughly a month and a half away, not sure he can recover from surgery and get into game shape to be effective for your team by then.

If it is hernia surgery, which a number of "groin" surgeries are, there have been NFL players return with only 1 missed game. Not saying that will happen here, but that its happened in the past.

Some relevant quotes from Jennings in the locker room today:

In my situation it's an abdominal rectus abdominal tear. The way he described it to me was simply two people pulling on the end of a rope and it starts to fray and the more tugging, the more fraying, which means the more tearing occurs. That's what I have going on. Two options: Either to inject or to get the surgery. I'm opting to get the surgery so I can be done with it. As far as the timeframe of how long the rehab and recovery will be, my body will tell me that. They give you ceratain time frames, one week, two weeks, three weeks, four weeks, whatever the case may be. But at the end of the day, it's going to be determined whether I feel good or not is when I'm going to return back onto the football field. But not season-ending. Hopefully I can return before the season ends. We'll see. But it's not season-ending.

It will be out in Philly. I'll get it taken care of next Tuesday. 20, 25 minute procedure. Outpatient. I'll be able to get up, walk out on my own and I'll be back walking in the locker room and you guys will never know, on Wednesday.

The biggest thing, he was saying, I should try to get as much cardio in as possible to help the recovery time as far as returning back onto the field of play. Being in shape, that's the No. 1 thing that's going to take the longest when it comes to me being physically active is how much I can endure and my stamina and different things like that. Just trying to do different pool works, swimming, whatever it is that doesn't over-exhaust the tear, but definitely works it. I can make it worse, but the surgery will fix it no matter how bad it gets, if it gets worse. But in this short period of time, I doubt that I'll make it worse.

Nah, doesn't sound like he's coming back that quickly; likely to miss around 6 weeks. Here are more details:http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=662099&view=findpost&p=14936374

I would not drop him if I owned him and I'd pick him up and stash if dropped in my leagues.

He'll be back by week 12 latest

they said his timetable could be 3 weeks after his surgery next week, or it could be 6 weeks...week 12 vs week 15, plus he will need time to get back into game shape. i guess we can hold for 3 weeks to find out more info, but it still seems like a wasted roster spot.

Has Jene Bramel weighed in on this new info yet? It is hard to tell with multiple threads.
Jene said on the thurs show to hold if possible. I'm trying to hold for this week at least, although he's on the short list with a couple others because I need a kicker Sunday. That league only has 16 bench spots tho :wall: I figure after he actually has the procedure we might get a better idea. Also, Jene mentioned Jordy's hammie on the show. If Jordy plays w/o issue this weekend, the Pack might be more cautious with Jennings. If he can't go or plays and aggrevates it or James Jones starts dropping balls/making mistakes again then they'll certainly be missing Greg a lot more. Not saying that stuff is likely or that it will necessarily effect how fast Jennings can get back on the field, but there's definately more data to be had next week.

I got a feeling Jennings best days as a Packer are behind him. I'd be selling in dynasty/keeper.Hope I'm wrong. I'm a Packer guy.
I actually feel the exact opposite, and would be looking to buy in dynasty leagues. What, though, do you think his price would be in a dynasty league? Future 1st round rookie pick? More?

Tough to say. If he stays a Packer, he probably commands a little more value than if he goes to most other places, 40td 4500yd QB and all that. But GB's talent pool is deep and Cobb is making a play for the WR1/2. Jones is a bargain and Jordy is the deep threat. Would hate to see Jennings go and maybe this is premature but I just got a feeling. So, what's he worth? His value is probably pretty low right now. If/when he enters the starting lineup, I'd trade him after his first good game (6-75 kind of numbers). A first round rookie (top 3 or so) plus a prospect or a handcuff might be a decent deal.
