Time to give up on the Hester experiment (1 Viewer)

Sep 11 After making virtually no impact in Chicago's loss to the Chargers, Hester likely will be more involved in the offense beginning with Sunday's game vs. the Chiefs, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Recommendation: "We need to get the ball in Devin's hands more," coach Lovie Smith said. "I definitely will acknowledge that. I thought [san Diego's] punt team did a good job of keeping the ball away from him. Then on the kickoffs, he didn't have a lot of opportunities with that. But he's one of our playmakers that we need to get involved more." Hester was on the field for only one offensive play last week, but that figures to soon change if the Bears want to get the ball into the hands of the explosive athlete.

Why would anyone expect immediate results from a guy who just switched to offense in the offseason? Not to mention, he played against what is probably one of the top 3 defenses in the league. Any experiment with Hester would need to be a long-term one.

I felt from the start that this would end up being like when the Chiefs said they were going to get Dante Hall involved as a WR after he broke out as an elite kick returner. Nothing much ever really came of it. His best season as a WR was 2005, with 34/436/3, and that was playing in a top 5 passing offense, which the Bears obviously don't have.

Ya its a rare find. The S. Smith and the T. Davis that start on ST, rarely transfer to highly producers on offense.

Maybe I'll hold for a month or 2.

The experiment will look a LOT better in either of the two games vs DET I'm guessing.
I didn't draft him; he was a WW pick up for me.... I feel for anyone that wasted a pick on the guy (I seen him go in 7th round). Might be a little early to give up.
I had assumed you were speaking from a football standpoint. Not a FF standpoint. Just saying they'll likely continue tinkering with Hester at WR and he'll get some looks in games like the DET games instead of games like last weekend.

I didn't even know I was supposed to experiment. Seems to me to be a waste of roster space unless you're in a deep league.

I have him in a league that gives points for return yards. I'm holding for now.
Same here. I'm hoping he puts together a two high profile games where he score crazy points with returns and then I'm gonna try to move him. With scoring in this league, Dante Hall was a top 3 WR the first half of the season the one year he went crazy. We'll see what happens, though I can't envision ever starting the guy, hoping I can get something for him.
