Time to retire Favre... (1 Viewer)

Seems like he comes unglued when it matters. What and INT throwing machine.

Which is why, perhaps, that even though he has all the pretty records/numbers, when people speak of the Greatest QB of all-time, his name is rarely mentioned at the top of that list.

Listening to Favre post game on ESPN. Now he says that even if the Pack would have won today, he still isn't certain if he is coming back next season. :goodposting:

Didn't he say a few weeks ago he felt younger than ever and that his daughters want him to play next season and that he wanted to be back?

He changes his mind more than my GF...

When Farve loses he is tired..when he wins he feels like a kid..Farve had a great season but it is time to pass the torch.

That's funny, your GF had a one-track mind last night!I'm sorry, the joke was there, I had to take it.

Another record for Brett Favre. With his two interceptions today he moves into a tie with Jim Kelly for the most all-time postseason interceptions, 28.

LOL, something truly up for debate, I was going back and forth on that too.

Probably should be questioning the guy with the new 5yr contract extension who decided to throw 70% of the time more than Favre.

Did you know that Tom Brady threw more INTs than Brett Favre did today?
Yeah, but because his TEAM bailed him out and he won nobody says boo. but 5 years from now stats will be shown about why so and so was a choker in the playoffs and they will show the interceptions this QB throws as proof he is a choker...Of course, "he" did the same as many winning QB (Roethlisberger in the SB), but people will always fail to understand that football is the ultimate team sport and the QB is less than 15% of the team...(see my sig)

Maybe the daughter can help him choose between CBS and FOX.

I doubt it... I'm guessing it will be a tractor.

He never said he wanted to come back. He just said his daughters wanted him to play another year. I don't know why people are making a big deal out of his interceptions yesterday. Brady threw 3 interceptions, and his weather wasn't as bad as Green Bays. Peyton Manning threw at least 2 interceptions in his game. QB's aren't perfect.

Why is it time to pass the torch? At 38 years old he has played just as good as the younger quarterbacks. Everybody has a hard time when you are playing in weather that is below zero degrees.

That ices it...he'll be back. Favre won't go out without locking up every INT record on the books.

It was -24 degrees with wind chill. No one wanted to be out there truth be told. Actually, watching the game, Favre didn't look like he wanted out, but he did look like the nerves of getting another SB opportunity caught up to him. He forced throws much in the way he did in recent seasons in Green Bay; when he thought that taking chances was the only hope his team had of winning the game. He got impatient yesterday and forced things when there was no need.

I was surprised to see Favre wearing the long-sleeved shirt and open-face ski mask, while many of his teammates were dressed like it was 75 degrees. Old-school Favre is gone.

The Favre haters have had to bite their tongues for a whole season.

Favre just had the best season of any QB over the age of 35, and now all the bashers want him to retire.

The Packers played like crap yesterday. Grant ran the ball 14 times for 28 yards, and the defense played well below their normal standards (see Harris, Al, and has anyone seen Nick Barnett? Anywhere?). Thats a recipe for disaster for any QB, Favre, Brady, Manning, Montana etc.

I think it was classic Favre at the end. I told my wife as soon as overtime hit he would lose it. The defense was having a hard time stopping the Giants and had given the Giants two chances already to win the game. The offense was unable to move the ball on the ground and every bit of the Win was going to be on his shoulders.

I think Favre knew that drive was the game and if he didn't do it they would lose. Therefore he ended up pressing to much as usual when the team is on his shoulders.

With that being said I see no reason for him to retire he proved he can still play the game and his supporting cast should improve again next year.

After the game they showed Favre talking to Manning, Favre looked like Grandpa Jones.

I didn't think Favre showed any fire in the second half of the game, maybe it is time for him to move on.

The only way the Packers were winning was on Favre's arm; their running game never showed up. Don't get me wrong, Favre's last throw was a poor one. But the Giants' D had them figured out.

Lost in the theatrics of Tynes' misses was the fact that one team was moving the ball and the other team wasn't. I never thought the Packers were going to win it in OT.

The game plan was definitely questionable. It's -300 degrees and you completely abandon the run. Not quite sure what they were thinking. But Favre had a poor day. It happens. To say he had no fire, though, is ridiculous. The guy plays to win. Unfortunately he made some very poor decisions yesterday, and one ultimately resulted in the key interception. Brett Favre remains a top 5 qb in the league. If he wants to retire because he has had enough after a remarkable career, I can understand it, but he will not be walking away because he is no longer an upper echelon qb.

Why throw facts into the mix when it's easier to blame Favre for the loss?

(KFFL) The Associated Press reports Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre said he hopes to make a decision regarding his future sooner than in previous years. "I'm not going to rush to make any quick decision, but I think probably it'll be much quicker than it has been in the past - and people will probably appreciate that," Favre said. "But I'm just going to try to enjoy this season we had as much as I can and try to block this game out. It's going to be very hard. I'm not going to let this game sway my decision one way or another." Favre said he would likely speak to head coach Mike McCarthy Monday, Jan. 21, then go home to make his decision.

Not really. He's still throwing the same game-killing interceptions just like he's always done. Greatest QB of all time? Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha!

I will disagree and say the abandoned the run far too early. I blame the coaching staff as much as anyone. Favre made a huge mistake with the INT but I don't understand why they gave up running the ball.

That DID look like the Favre of the past 3-4 years yesterday...but he had an outstanding season. No reason for him to retire unless he's ready to.

That said, I can't imagine sitting in negative fn temperatures to watch my team lose in grueling fashion like that. I think I'd kill myself afterwards, just for being stupid.

I don't think anyone said the loss was all Favre's fault. What people did say is that he played very poorly. Do you disagree with Favre played very poorly?

That's not what a lot of people are saying here. I do agree that Favre did not have a good game. I don't necessarily think he played "very poorly" as you characterize it though. (I'll reserve that for Al Harris and Nick Barnett). The Giants shut down the Packers run game with 7 in the box, and had their corners playing inside leverage, (taking away the slants) hard all night. That leaves them vulnerable deep, but Favre and the Packers weren't able to take advantage of that. The fact of the matter was last night the Giants came in with a better plan, played harder and smarter and should have blown out the Packers. The only reason it wasn't a blow out was the Tramon Williams return, and Drivers long TD. Favre certainly wasn't part of the solution, but he was no more at fault for the loss than anyone else on the team.

Yes, he did.And for the record, I would like to see Favre come back next year. Frankly, I don't see why Favre can't play into the next decade. Testaverde played well at 41 y/o.

Between Favre and LT, there's a lot talent getting roasted today.

I'm sure everyone crushing BF is telepathic and knows what he thought about the whole game.
