How did the Spurs fit Aldridge under the cap?
can someone explain this? They have Duncan, Ginobili, Parker, Leonard, Green all under big contracts? How did they have another 20m under the cap to sign LA?
All of those guys aren't under big contracts.
home team discounts?
Pretty much. Duncan and Ginobli will be signing below market deals again. Then they'll sign Aldrich before Kawhi and Green since Kawhi and Green's cap holds are lower than their salaries will be. Already traded Splitter for nothing to clear his salary. To top it off, may be getting DWest for the vet minimum.

As fun as it is to laugh at the Kings, Knicks, and Lakers, the Blazers and Clippers had by far the worst offseasons in the league.

Dodging Rondo was all I needed to be happy with the Lakers' off season. Pretty happy with the guys they drafted. If Russell turns out to be good and Kobe actually retires, I think they'll become a bit more attractive to free agents in the years to come.

With the varying degrees of (paraphrasing) "this guy signed with _______....it won't make them better" and "I can't believe that _________ got X amount" running thru this thread....it's hard not to like what the Sixers have/are doing even more. No point in being invested in a league's FA period when most of the moves seem irrelevant.

Totally disagree, but we will see what happens. As bad as the offseason for the Knicks looked, at least they added 2 functional pieces and the 4th overall pick while leaving themselves plenty of cap room again next offseason. That's more than the Sixers can say. Never mind a team like the Bucks, Orlando, or Utah that actually improved themselves to potentially playoff quality.

There were plenty of cheap moves that could be made, and to not even bring in a passable PG to aid the development of Okafor, Noel, and I guess Stauskus is just a huge mistake.

The Spurs can sign LaMarcus Aldrige, but it will be complicated
That makes it sounds more complicated than it really is and the cap will be closer to $69m than $67m in the article. The Only possible sticking point now is Ginobili taking the under the cap mid level. I assume the Aldridge trade was made with Duncan's buy off, so now it's just a matter of how the paperwork is processed. The Splitter trade, the new Duncan contract and renouncing Ginobili's rights have to come first, then they'll sign Aldridge, then they officially sign Green, Leonard, and Ginobili to the mid-level. I haven't looked at the specifics, but it's also possible with the cap a little higher than originally expected, they could get Ginobili under the cap and still have a the mid-level available for somebody like David West.

If Felton gets stretched out (which seems likely of Lin signs and Narea returns) then does he have any value anywhere but at Golden Corral?

Not really and he's not a good locker room guy either. If he was a solid locker room presence, he might be worth having around if you had a solid starting point guard and you only needed a 12 mpg backup or a nice 5th guard.

I get what you are saying, and most on this thread know more about the NBA than me (although if I got most of you on the blacktop...my Kurt Rambis looking ### would take your lunch while putting on a clinic for you) so I don't have the ammo to really fence with anyone on this......but I've just been beat over the head so much with this "it takes a superstar ( or several) to have a realistic shot to win in today's NBA" that anything less than a complete teardown and rebuild just seems futile. The Sixers at least seem to acknowledge this.

And you're talking to one who got laughed out of the Delaware Valley for advocating that that 2012 Sixers team ( that seemed to be a deep, yet unremarkable team) could have added a piece or two and been a legit contender(the reason givenas to why the could have never won was that they couldn't compete with a 2-3 superstar team no matter how deep they were) . So it's not like I've always thought the teardown was the only way to win.

GB the Lakers.

I cannot wait until Kobe verbally abuses Hibbert and Hibbert takes a swing at him.

The Blazers lost 5 of their top 6 players. That's got to be one of the worst offseasons in NBA history.
I couldn't disagree more. Once they knew Aldridge was leaving it was very smart to get rid of Batum, Matthews, Lopez, and Affalo. Better to go young at this point with Lillard, McCollum, Leonard, etc. Hope to get a good lottery pick next year. Nothing worse than getting bounced from playoffs in first round every year. I like what Portland is doing.

Agree. He lost his confidence for some reason even though 18 months ago people were talking about him as one of the best centers in the league.

I think hibbert is a nice pickup for the lakers. He is 28 but if he can regain his form from a few years ago, he and Russell and Randle could be a nice little core for a few years.

I just find it funny that the Lakers have been denied every single free agent they've talked about or coveted the last several years but now they "love love love" this move of course.
