Watching the Rockets-Clippers game. The crowd is chanting "M-V-P" for James Harden, who is shooting 3-for-12 on the night.

I had to double-check to see if the game was being played in Houston or Los Angeles.

ESPN devoted an enormous amount of space detailing (and praising) the Sixers organization and their philosophy. Simmons, in his new column trashes it in just a few sentences.

It's like he's just itching for a fight with ESPN management.
It was a long-read, and it dovetailed with the analytics issue of The Mag, but it's not like ESPN has any sort of alliance with the Sixers. I mean, they're not the NFL.

Reasonable minds are going to differ, I suppose. If ESPN can have two jerk-offs like Bayless and Smith try to HotTake each other to death for half an hour a day, certainly they can have a couple of different writers take opposing views on the same franchise.

That said, the theory about it being some sort of Ponzi scheme is dumb.

And the worst part of it is that someone WILL 'woo' him this offseason. Despite how decidedly mediocre he's been this year. Dude should be on 1 year deals rest of his career, but someone will pay long term for his continued decline into his 30s.

Rajon Rondo is unlikely to return to the Mavericks after this season, according to Tim McMahon of ESPN Dallas.
While Tyson Chandler expects Rondo's recent run-in with head coach Rick Carlisle to bring the team closer, McMahon thinks the altercation and ensuing one-game suspension will lead the free-agent-to-be to bolt Dallas after the season. A winning season could cure everything here, but Rondo has spoken about his desire to be wooed during the free agency period so this latest incident likely won't help the Mavericks' chances to retain the mercurial point guard. I really don't think he'll get a multi-year deal. He hasn't been mediocre, he's been downright awful and has proven to be a malcontent with multiple coaching regimes.

I don't think "Trade Value" means what Bill Simmons thinks it means.
yea but he got that DEFLATEGATE reference in there tho. keep gettin' dem checks bill.
I chuckled when he had Haralabob on his podcast, and said how they "think about things similarly" re: the NBA, and was basically met with silence.
they need to have him on more. I loved when he bashed Bovada and you could tell Simmons was thinking "wait... what other books are there?"

Sagarin has GSW by 4.5... guessing he's not factoring in how hot Cavs are w/ Lebron, road trip for GSW, etc...

Yah. I learned my lesson after the Hawks game. They had the day off yesterday, but they were schmoozing with the prez. I'm just hoping for a good game.

A couple takes from the Bill Simmons article talking about the Grizz.

In Gasol’s case, his “freedom” doesn’t matter — he went to high school in Memphis, he has only played for the Grizzlies, he loves the city and he’d be crazy to ditch a contender for a what-if. Let’s stop wasting print/airwaves/Internet bandwidth even mentioning it. That includes you, Knicks fans — you guys are like those drunken unmarried floozies on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills who hit on married guys and convince themselves that “I know we only talked for three minutes at a cocktail party, but I think he’s ready to leave his wife!” Just stop it. Have some dignity, for god’s sake. You’re not getting the NBA’s best center. You’ll see Jalen Rose give up a plate of lobster tempura before you see Marc Gasol stabbing Memphis in the back to sign up for that gawd-awful Knicks situation.

By the way, are you ready for an Atlanta-Memphis Finals? Can you imagine the lengths that David Stern would have gone to in order to prevent that from happening? Would we have seen this Shawshank-like moment right after Memphis beat Houston in Round 2?
(We see Conley leaving the arena late at night; nobody else is around. Stern emerges from the shadows to meet him. He’s smoking a cigarette.)
Stern: Thanks for meeting me, Mike. You must be really excited about playing Golden State.
Mike: I really am, it’s gonna be a great series.
Stern: They’re a great team. I like the way they play. People love the Splash Brothers. That’s a big market too.
Mike: It’s gonna be quite a challenge for us, but we’re ready.
Stern: And you’re gonna do everything you can to win that series, I assume.
Mike: Absolutely. I just want a chance to make the Finals.
Stern: That’s what I thought.
(Stern puts out a cigarette and nods to **** Bavetta on the roof … )

LOL.

Icon, do you even follow sports these days?

Finally some good news for Rose. Good for the Bulls announcing a timetable. Something they've never done. He's no longer THE franchise. No need to over protect him.

Never had an issue with any of the previous upgrade, this board upgrade is awful. Is this a work in progress? (I hope)

I read/heard some speculation that Rose might cause drama again about coming back this year but I really doubt it.

All year, though, the Bulls have seemed to be a team yet to hit their stride. I'm not sure there will be enough time before the playoffs. Maybe they'll get out of the first round but they'll likely be heavy underdogs the second round.
