Donning a fire suit to read some of the HotSportsTakes in response to LeBron's "I am the best player in the world" quote.

Analytics side has pretty much awarded Finals MVP to LeBron win or lose; add Kevin Pelton to the group with his column today.

Talking heads side is still trying to say stuff like "now LeBron has to back up those words tomorrow night" and keep a straight face.
I really don't think it's all that controversial of a take. He did just say he was the best player in the world. When you say things like that, you kinda have to prove it every night.
He has for the last 10 years.
Sure. I never said he wasn't right but people love giving him ####. So he'll get shovels full if doesn't play great in game 6.
And those people are idiots and should be ignored.
It's not idiotic to hold an athlete accountable for a completely arrogant statement. That's just sports.

Apple Valley HS got game, eh?
They are having a nice run. it's a nice part of town near the MOA and several big employers, so it's a desirable place to live. There's some level of open enrollment in the Cities, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if Trent Jr lived in-district.

Anyway, the kid already has offers from most of the Big Ten, and the rest of the country is discovering him - Duke is recruiting him as well.
Future Gopher, imo.

When that statement is true, yes, yes it is. Why do you hate it when people tell the truth?

And what is there to be "held accountable" for? Having a bad game does not change anything about his status as being the best in the world.

He could go 0 for 30 with ten turnovers tonight while standing around picking his nose when he's supposed to be playing defense and he'd still be the best player in the world when the final buzzer sounded. To trash him for saying a thing that is very clearly true isn't demanding accountability, and it isn't sports. It's just idiotic. The fact that Skip Bayless would do it is pretty definitive proof of its idiocy.

Someone is going to make the plays down the stretch to win the game tonight. When you're saying that you're the best player on the planet, it better be you.

And by being held accountable I mean that he'll get asked questions he doesn't like, he will be compared unfavorably to Jordan AGAIN and there will be tons of columns written about it. All that it is fair IMO.

Are there really people out there that still think Stephenson is good?
Good Lance is an valuable two-way player who makes life a lot easier for your best perimeter player.

Bad Lance stops the ball on offense and watches it on defense.

Doc Rivers is exactly the kind of coach who thinks he can bring out Good Lance and bury Bad Lance. He's very Lucasian in this respect.

There's also the benefit of getting out from under Spencer Hawes's contract.

LAC apparently also thinks they are playing with house money on the Likability Scale. After decades of Donald Sterling, LAC thinks they can get away with a couple more b-holes on the roster without hurting their image, a risk other franchises can't take.

Again, I don't think that's a "hot take". He essentially guaranteed a victory because he's the best. Now we want to see him take over the game and show us.

Great, the game Cleveland should be getting makeup calls we get Scott Foster of the 11-game road team winning streak as head referee. Pack it in, boys.
Hopefully the shot clock operators in the Finals change. The Cavs are owed an extra possession today.
Did the Cav's have some magical 18pt* play on the books for that "stolen" possession? ;)

*Average margin of defeat over the last two games.

The take is hot with this one.

So now all opinions are hot takes? Everyone has the same shtick as the pftcommenter. It is pretty funny sometimes I guess.

No. Just Bayless-esque comments are generally referred to as hot takes and you've dropped about 4-5 on this page.
Again, what have I said that's controversial at all? Actually, I didn't even really say anything other than agree with a scorching hot take apparently.

As Cliff said- not controversial. Just stupid. Hot takes are really more stupid than controversial, anyway.

Ha, JR Smiff might think so.

Regardless, we saved this one for tonight.

My confidence is pretty low right now, as maybe it should be, but I'd really like to see a Game 7.

and this is exactly why it is a hot take.

So... Tonight's game... Is it gonna come down to which chorus makes more uncontested jumpers? Is there anything CLE can do to keep GSW from pulling away in the 4th?

If they can own the 1st 3 quarters they might be able to hang on through the 4th. And/or they could start really gooning it up.

Jvg and Lowe were discussing the MVP thing on today's podcast. Jeff made a point that I think is illustrative of how good James has been: if you flip lebron and curry, this is a GS sweep. As good as curry is, lebron is that much better.

Doesn't matter, it's a team sport. Give Lebron every accolade. Just as long as the Dubs get the trophy.

Well that's lock solid, bullet proof, scientific reasoning right there. And by that I mean, it's a classic example of begging the question.

Since random thoughts.....

I like Mike Malone for the Nuggets. He was doing well with Boogie and he'll be way better than Shaw.

I also like the Stephenson deal for the Clippers. CP3 should keep him in check and with Blake Griffin around he's should know his place on the offensive pecking order. Worth a gamble for them.
Hmm. You must either think taking the ball out of CP3's hands in a good thing or Stephenson playing without the ball is a good thing. Which is it?
You can't get the good Lance without the bad Lance. This will likely be a #######ed disaster.
His success in Indiana gives me hope. He failed miserably as a lead dog in CHA, but the environment in LA is similar to IND.

On the court, he'll give the Clips size, defense, and another playmaker to pair with gunners like Reddick and Crawford. Next to CP3 and Blake he'll fill the same role behind George/West.

Born Ready as a role player can help teams....I think.

The games have been entertaining. But watching last night I started to think about teams that have won an NBA title and wondered how either of these two would rate against them. The eventual winner, imop, may be one the worst "teams" to ever win a championship.
This Golden State team is one of the better teams in NBA history.
Two weeks ago, I would have agreed.

However, them struggling this much to beat a Cavs team that is severely outmanned takes them down a few notches. Regardless of how awesome LBJ is, one of the better teams in NBA history would have won disposed of this Cavs team in 4.
You mean like the 72 win 1996 Bulls did to a Sonics team that was Payton, Kemp, Detlef Schremp and a bunch of lifeless corpses? They started 34 year old braided and eterna-stoned Sam Perkins and their bench player who got the most minutes was 36 year old Frank Brickowski. Took the Bulls six games to dispatch them, including a 21 point blowout loss in Game 4 and a double digit loss in Game 5.
Too soon.

Awesome post

Bittersweet to watch the game tonight. My dad passed shortly after game 5 on Sunday. We had the game on for him, as he definitely wanted to watch it.

Loved watching NBA and talking hoops with my dad. Tons of great memories.

Have one for my dad tonight please guys.
