**Titans at Broncos**(-8.5, 42.5) 4:05 (1 Viewer)

I think the Titans take a tangible step forward this season, but they are overmatched this week. I don't hate this as a survivor pick.

I do think Cam Ward will show signs of why he went #1 and even in this awful matchup will clearly look like an upgrade from what the Titans have had post-Tannehill. Pollard should have success for as long as the Titans are in it, and Ridley feels like a guy who could feast in garbage time all season.

I think the Titans D is actually gonna do a pretty solid job against the Broncos run game, but Nix should pick them apart. Maybe a young guy (Mims? Franklin? steps up eventually, but this week I think everything flows through Sutton and Engram.

Broncos win but don't cover as Titans get some garbage time points.

The Titans were the worst team in football last year. This should be a nice warm up game for the Broncos. Their should be that healthy fear that if they're too cocky, the Titans can now win. That's probably going to be the theme all year for opposing teams.
The Titans had an excellent defense last year. Maybe the best coached pass defense I've ever seen.

CB Jarvis Brownlee allowed 483 yards
CB Darrell Baker JR allowed 315 yards
Slot CB Roger McCreary allowed 454 yards

These no names led the defense that led the NFL in yards allowed for almost all season til dropping into second. Do you see how low those totals are? Big name WRs would matchup with Brownlee and compliment him after the game. Definitely a steal of the draft.
To add a little more- do you know how often Levis and Co gave it to the other team?

So they're backed up by pro bowl almost all pro Amani Hooker and a slew of old name Safeties.
DC Denard Wilson is an up n comer with great blood lines and will get head coaching interviews. He's got the corners playing so feisty. They are so "in your face" at the line and during the route and they're gonna slap at the pass too. They will make ya wonder who is a primadonna at WR and I just love how he coaches it.
Journeyman Baker has been said he's not good he's just annoying. He stunk before the Titans and "came to life" last year under Wilson. Annoying is a fine word for a CB.

The Titans have two of the best DTs in Big Jeff and Sweat. I can't believe some people still haven't seen Sweat. He's the biggest guy with surprising wheels you've ever seen. Offenses are not moving these two. Just don't try.

"The Titans have no edges and no LBs" obviously exaggerated but ok. Arden Key is soso. He's a decent player that if you forget about him he'll make a good play. Femi is the rookie edge that is a beast. He was an ILB til late last year so he's new to the position. It's still up n down for him. He has an OMG play and he also gets shoved aside like nothing. As the off-season wore on, he had more good plays than bad but he's not all ready just yet.
They have a good crop of tough scrappy backup DL but they are backups.
Big Jeff will be moved around this year and play some DE. Nix has to have the ability to audible some run plays. They can possibly find success running at Big Jeff but why try? See where he is and go the other way.

Barton is the Titans free agent addition at LB and he's been outstanding this offseason. He was let go from the Broncos and even benched last season so the Broncos look at this as fools gold.
The Titans also have Cedric Gray. A draft darling that had an attitude and sat and then practiced and sat some more. He got in and did not know the defensive calls and was pulled. Late last year the light started to come on for the rookie. This year he had a pretty good camp but clearly was behind James Williams. The last two weeks a beast awakened in Gray and he rocked. Highlight reel type play and he stole the starting spot.

Williams is a converted safety with a supposed bad 40 time that can fly. When he got in last year he was everywhere. Watch him ten seconds and you know that 40 time was bogus. He had this uncertainty at the last second early. Like make a play kid, what are ya doing? Later in the year that was gone and he looked like a real good ILB. He was the starter almost all offseason so he's expected to play a good amount.

The Broncos are gonna have a battle with this defense. Wilson has coached at famous Dematha high school, the Redskins, the Eagles, the Ravens...you sorta see it. The Broncos are better but they are gonna have to earn it. One radio host called them the Ravens b team or the Eagles second string last year. Fair enough. Those are great Ds. This is -again- where the Broncos better not get cocky and just take what's given and play their game.

Titans have a revamped line on offense and this will be the first game. They've possibly gone from an atrocious group to one of the better lines. The first few weeks usually have miscommunication so the Broncos should get some freebies sacks or TFL. The other 95 percent of plays I'm very curious how they'll do. We've drafted a gazillion linemen while other teams get star athletes and ...I'm so over ready for it to actually bear some fruit and be a great unit.

Ridley versus Surtain we discussed.
He's gonna move around, will Surtain? The Broncos didn't move Surtain against Chase and he cooked em last year. I'm sure it's a coaching principle but...stick with it? Ridley is Cam's guy. He looks better than ever and they're in sync and every rosy off-season thing you could say. Will that translate to the regular season?

What's Tyler Lockett have left in the tank? Is preseason Van Jefferson actually a complete WR? Did you know he could run 22 mph? Big credit to him he looks way better than expected.

The Titans didn't make a decision on all these other WRs. The stinkers must hate fantasy football. They're gonna rotate them all and rotate the spots too. They will still playing the hot hand style of camp.

Elic Ayomanor is starting and that was a shock after how everything played out- but yet he himself referred to Find coach McDaniels quote and doesn't really believe it's starting WR amount of plays.
Oliver is the "you shouldn't be starting" UDFA that could be or he could be fifth WR. He's not blessed with elite athleticism but he made a play a day since spring and reporters were shocked when he made a mistake. Ward loves him too. When Snead was being tested the other day, he asked for Oliver. Oliver also wore Ridley's uniform in practice and it took guys a while to notice. He's....no one knows. We drafted these guys and signed these guys but last year's UDFA keeps making plays.

Elic I've been absolutely stomped on for comparing to Plaxico so y'all pick someone else. He's got an Allen Iverson crossover of a sidestep on some routes and otherwise he's always using long arms. I think like Plax and people don't remember Plax running ordinary routes but nonetheless he's a nice looking rookie. Real good feedback from opposing DCs and players in intrasquad. He's a fourth rounder and still has some rookie ness he needs to shake off.

Dike is a slick runner with a Vick like explosion to fifth gear that isn't ready. They're throwing him to the wolves as a returner and probably gonna do the same at WR. He looks quite ordinary then damn wow when he takes off. His biggest problems are typical rookie stuff. He gets pushed around on routes and plays patty cake at the LOS and he didn't seem to understand spacing with the other WRs en route. Everyone predraft loved this guy's potential and ...they're trying to push him. He could play just a bit on offense or maybe it clicks and we get a good dose of Chimere.

Chig has two dawgs behind him. Gunnar and DMR don't mind blocking or playing rough with the DBs. The pressure is very much on Chig to finally be the guy they've put so time into. He's in a prove it year and they haven't even offered a contract yet. He's starting. He's got the opportunity.

Cam is Cam there's nothing new to say on him. He's an OMG good kid and great teammate. It's a rough defense and rough place to get his first start.

Hopefully y'all will see what I've been loving- the Titans seemed to have an affinity for guys that will absolutely fight you for the football. They have a few that would make Randy Moss proud of their my ball mentality. Also if the Broncos lose one of these, they better not get a stupid penalty right after as that's super predictable.

Pollard is a smallish back next to Henry. Giant Henry carried them with ease. Henry picked up the Titans stadium and put it on Pollard's back and he's trying to hold it up but it's almost too much for him.
Spears is made of glass so he hasn't taken any of the workload off Pollard.
Mullings hurt his ankle a couple weeks back. It hasn't healed up as expected. He should have been fine by now but he's questionable. He's a violent runner that likes to get his nose dirty. He could be the goal line back or short yardage or even just spell Pollard. He didn't pickup ST or pass blocking very well so the odds are against him right now. Last week of preseason he had a few good snaps in pass pro so there's hope.
Perennial camp star Julius Chestnut is back. He never gets carries or catches for years now. I wonder if that's bad in a predictability manner. The kid is like Henry junior or ol Thomas Jones or 80s backs. He needs carries just to get his motor going but if he does then he is gonna break one. He's kinda useless with 3-4 carries. They've been on him all off-season to work this out and produce without the warmup. He's made a number of plays cold so there's a bit of hope he's shaken this but these types usually don't. He's a good player though. He's a fine third RB that can do everything including ST. He just...he doesn't get the rock.

"Ward has a gun and isn't afraid to shoot it"
I think that's the Broncos biggest issue today. Much like defense. Don't get cocky and disrespect an NFL team. Take your win and play correct or the rookie could getcha.

Oof on cadence offense offsides
Way too hard overthrow
HUrried panic dump pass to Bidet dropped

Yelling "No" or "I know" at the sideline real aggravated. Called timeout

Jekyll and Hyde for Nix

Big Jeff sack avoided almost threw to defender.

Nix looks angry on sideline as they went to commercial.

Idk what happened exactly but geesh he changed and better get it together

Two TE offense
Little one to Chig
Nice medium to Helm
Run and holding
Chig falls off his block for another little one
Ayomanor deep (didn't catch it) penalty on offense
Punt

Ya can't have Ridley neutralized and not use the other WRs. The goal was to find out who belongs. Use the WRs!

I think Ayomanor has stayed in. He didn't even come in the screen on two plays. Get off the line kid!

Jefferson Ridley two TE
Fumble by Pollard

Everything is still weird into second Q.
Cincy doesn't even know what 2 TE set is. Whatcha doing Callahan?

Broncos go with extra lineman and predictably the Titans stop the run
It was second down.

These coach OCs stink so far

Also Badie not Bidet was RB name I messed up

Stupid four yard passes and runs into Titans well regarded D linemen followed by bad trickery by Nix which Simmons pops away for fumble

Totally blame Payton for all that

Elic with an excellent big boy route and veteran dive finish
Detroit guard Zeitler clearing the way for Pollard a couple times. Latham with a nice block too
Chestnut in for a few straight ahead

TE (I guess, not on screen) let OLB get right on in and sack Ward to end drive in FG

15 yard dump to Badie was all they got.
Nix pointing with both fingers guns. Looks frustrated again.

Titans were excellent in coverage again

Almost a safety throw in dirt
WRa got routes tangled up, throw in dirt
Ward sacked as he gets set. Cooper flew by Latham
Safety on replay
Why not?
Oh home field TD?

Announcers saying Titans should have run out the clock
Another ya gotta be kidding me call. Brownlee had a hand on the ball, that isn't PI

Nice play to Sutton for TD. Leading, up high, he got up and got it. Very nice.

Absolutely bogus that even came to be though.

I thought it was poor up 6-3 under a minute left and the Head Coach drops a rookie QB back into the end zone on 3 straight pass plays
I would have run the ball and burned the clock/timeouts for Denver but that's just me

Titnas manage to tack on 3 at the very end on a nice kickoff return
Titans look a lot better on defense thus far vs last season

Great run by Nix, a tough run by Dobbins...otherwise not so good.

Somewhere Cecil is starting to realize I wasn't shining about the Titans defense
