Titans to retire Warren Moon's jersey (1 Viewer)

Gonna be kind of an awkward ceremony don't you think? Sure wish the NFL would have afforded Houston the same priviledges as Cleveland and let us keep the name Oilers and the franchise records. Too bad everyone here hates the owner so bad they let 'em walk without a fight. Of course, it was nice to invite Bud into the brand new stadium we refused to build him.

Kudos to Moon for a fine career and some entertaining football. It sucks he can't have his ceremony here in front of his real fans. It was exciting to watch and absolutely devastating all at the same time. At least we had hope, something the current franchise may never give us...

R.I.P. Houston turmOilers--I will avenge all of your most painful defeats on Techmo Bowl '93

The Titans are a continuation of the Oilers in a new location with a new name.

The Texans are a pathetic new franchise that likes to think of themselves as the continuation of the Oilers.

Lmao...the texans...ahahaha.

That is wrong plain and simple, Moon should be honored in Houston.

Like someone said, the ideal situation is what happened here in Cleveland, where all the records and tradition stayed in the city. When a team moves it should be considered a new franchise.

This is like one "special" kid ridiculing another one. Yeah, he may be worse off, but you both ride the :11:

Thank goodness Cleveland kept the records and wonderful tradition! The Browns have been a stellar 36-79 since coming back.

Officially, that's true. What's interesting is that most of the "Glory Days" Baltimore Colts hated to be associated with Indy, and occasionally attend Ravens functions. There's a statue of Johhny Unitas front and center outside the Ravens stadium. The Ravens "Ring of Honor" has one spot for the Baltimore Colts Hall-of-Famers.Most of the tradition is still in Baltimore, even if the official franchise designation and the records went in the Mayflowers under the dark of night in '84.

WRONG!!!!! :hot: Colts = IrsaysAnd Manning did NOT just break Johnny's franchise completion record. I, like the old Baltimore Colts players, do not equate the Indianapolis Irsays with the old Baltimore Colts. I love the Ravens now and would not want to bring the Colts name back after all this time, but it doesn't belong in Indy either. It should be returned to Baltimore and retired from use. I do REALLY miss the Baltimore Colts fight song though. That Ravens song SUCKS!!!! The NFL should have done what it did for Cleveland for all of the cities that lost their beloved teams. And for what it's worth, as someone who had my heart ripped out by the NFL, I am very sorry that you Cleveland Fans had to go through that. I am however, very thankful that they learned from the past and quickly corrected a wrong. If they had given that expansion franchise to baltimore instead of Jax (what a joke) , I wouldn't even be posting here. And just so I'm not too off topic... Oilers = RIPTitans = TitansWarren Moon should be honored in Houston.

Shouldn't the Houston Texans being doing this? He never played a down in Tennessee.
No, Moon never played a down for the Houston Texans. The franchise(see Business) that is retiring his number is the one he played most of his NFL career with and the one who was paying him for all of those years.

Why not honor him in both? The Texans don't have to retire his number since the former Houston franchise is in Tennessee, but his fans still remain in Houston.

Because it's not the same business. Moon has absolutely no connection to the Houston Texans franchise. He never played for them and he was never paid by them. His "fans" are rooting for a franchise he never played for. Why would the Texans owner want to retire the number of a player who never played for his team?

Warren Moon never was and never will be a Tennessee Titan, the franchise can retire his number but his fans, the people that cheered for him and watched his hall of fame career were all in the Houston.

We the Oiler fans that lived and bled Oiler Blue are the ones who can apperciate all he has given to the game and to his fans.

Heres to you Warren, they were indeed exciting times. :banned:

Montana's Fans = San FranciscoElway's Fans = DenverMarino's Fans = MiamiUnitas' Fans = BaltimoreMoon's Fans = HoustonTeams have no allegence to their fans when they move, the memories are for the local fans... that still live in Houston, Katy, Grapevine, wherever... Moon is a Titan by technicality... not by spirit, soul, blood, sweat nor tears... Retiring a jersey is not a 'technicality' matter.... especially extra since they changed the name.

Where did I say he did? Honor doesn't mean retiring his jersey in the Texans organization. It could just be a symbolic gesture by the Texans franchise and let him come out and be applauded by the people who cheered for him all of those years.

Thus is just a weird no-win situation. The Texans aren't going to retire his number and there is no Tennessee Oilers. The symbolism behind retiring a number just doesn't work with the Titans. It only seems to highlight several things, none of them good. If the Texans can't retire his number they can at least have a "Warren Moon Day" and do some kind celebration thing before a game or at half time.

The smart thing to do would be to retire his number at halftime of the Titans/Texans game IN HOUSTON. That way the team still retires the number but his real fans get to honor him. No one in TN cares about Moon.

Sometimes rich me can be so stupid........
