Da Guru

Fair & Balanced
Having watched both of them twice this year I am very suprised. Young looks pretty good.

Having watched both of them twice this year I am very suprised. The Pro games seems taylormade for Leinart. Lienart looks like a seasoned vet on the field, he sees the whole field which is rare for a rookie. And the thing that suprised me the most was he looked much quicker moving around the pocket and running that I thought he would. Vince just seems to be years away from being a polished NFL QB, and if he has any kind of leg injury he is toast.
Did you watch the college championship game last year?

Yes I did watch the "college" game last year. If Young tried to play like that week in and week out in the NFL...RIP. Vince would not last one season.

And some wonder why I was happy to see Leinart go to AZ. I think he fits in very well in that offense, and has some incredible talent around him... if he had gone to Tennessee, he'd be floundering right now...

Certainly they are both in identical situations and we have plenty of NFL footage of each so it's easy to make comparisons. Both also have 2 top 10 WRs and a top 10 running back. This is definitely a well thought out scientific study.

I still can't figure out why Tennessee was drafting 7 spots higher though.

Yeah, he went over to Ryan Leaf's pad to watch it.

Anyone remember Ryan Leaf's preseason in 1998?

A whole two games, huh? During preseason. Yeah...It's about time to decide who will have the better career.

:wall:

Vince Young is not dependent on his legs in the way that Michael Vick is; he's mobile but he's not inherently a runner. There are legitimate questions about his passing polish, but it's entirely possible he'll turn out to be a great NFL QB.

Leinart's early success is no surprise to me; I thought he looked better than Carson Palmer at USC. By staying an extra year, he lost his timing to be the top pick; on the Gartner Group's "Hype Cycle" curve, he was at the Peak of Inflated Expectations at the end of his junior year, and he was drafted while in the Trough of Disillusionment. But that also means he's closer to the Plateau of Production.

So did I.Palmer has actually surprised me.

There is a lot of nonsense in this thread, but I do agree with the main point: the Titans will regret selecting Vince Young instead of Matt Leinart.

I think Da Guru should take his "Titans will Regret Young over Leinart" and his "The Lions are Undraftable", as well as any other prediction he comes up with based on two pre-season games, and consolidate them to a single "I'm Going to Overreact Big-Time" thread.

Leaf looked much better than Manning.

Jeff Fisher & Norm Chow wanted Leinart, owner Bud Adams made the Vince Young selection. Hopefully that move allows Fisher a couple years to get the team back to the powerhouse they once were.

Vince Young has rare talent, you almost have to take a shot on him especially after he showed not only the ability to get much better year to year but then to dominate on the big stage.

The thing that really makes the Young selection puzzling is the way Steve McNair was shown the door. It may be a business, but that's no way to handle business relations. If Vince does develop will he show himself the door the first chance he gets? That little incident may play into other people's decisions as well, because McNair took years off his life with the sacrifices he made for that team.

This whole thread is ridiculous.

You come back and emphasize the "MAY" i "MAY" go buy a new corvette today. probably not, but i may.

I'm a titans homer, and was as high on Leinart as anyone, and as down on Young as anyone. I cringed at the pick. But the stuff you are baseing it on...2 preseason games...

Leinart has a ton of weapons...Young has...?

Young was dubbed a project coming out...The jury should be out on him for a few years...I don't doubt that he'll bust, but dont be the cool guy that calls it now...alot of people are already down on him...you're really not the first here...

That is exactly what I meant. Young is a project, Lienart is more polished and seems ready to play. I did not mean that Young does not have a chance to be a decent QB.

I think it would be better to say that Young regrets not going to the Cardinals. Arizona has a good RB, awesome receivers (Bryant Johnson could start for the Titans imo) and a history of losing. The Titans have a #1 RB who doesn't want to be there, a rookie RB whose most famous NFL accomplishment is spitting and they made the playoffs a couple of years ago.

Whoever went to Arizona would be in a better position than the one who went to Tennessee.

I agree here. I view Young more of a Donovan McNabb than a Michael Vick...

Where can I make the long term prop bet that Kellen Clemens is the best QB of this class and the only one wearing a gold jacket in about 18 years?

Ohhh so you're going out on a LIMB. I'm glad there IS a point to this thread after all!

Titans may disagree with you there smart guy. FYI: VY starts tomorrow. ;)

That doesn't mean that Young is more ready to play, it just means that Arizona is more likely to make the playoffs. If Arizona was 0-3 and looking horrible in every game, then we'd probably see Leinart under center, too.

:goodposting: The Titans are probably saying to themselves "what the heck" at this point. Its not like Young can do any worse than Collins.

Didn't the rumor come out earlier this week that we would see Leinart? He'll be in soon enough, then people will blame the Titans supporting cast for VY's struggles while Leinart performs well for a rookie.

Sounds like Da Guru has an old chip on his shoulder. I don't suppose your statement against Young has anything to do w/ him running up 5 TDs against Michigan in the 2005 Rose Bowl? Hmm?

All kidding aside, I guess we'll see this season if Leinart is the better QB.

Agree that Leinert looked better than Palmer in college. Carson had one good year, Leinert had two. Disagree that Young is not dependent on his legs. I live in Austin and saw him play many times for university of Texas. His game is based on leadership, mobility/running ability, and escapability/keeping passing plays alive by evading the rush. His escapability was based as much on strength as speed. I don't think that he's a bad passer, but he's not a good passer, either. Atlanta is running the same offense that university of Texas ran last year. I expect Vick's pummellings will get worse each week. Once Vince gets on the field, I'll expect the same for him, but with worse results, because he's not going to be a man among boys in the pros.

People have doubted Vince his whole life...He has that something "special" that you cant measure. He's a winner...and that wont change in the pros.

Altered to be a bit more realistic.
