Let's say Chad Johnson forces a trade or sits out in 2008, can TJ Houshmandzadeh improve on his 2007 numbers? (112 REC, 12 TD, 1143YDS) Also take into account Chris Henry's release and the new TE Ben Utech.

His numbers will go WAY down. He'll be facing the teams #1 corner, possibly double teamed. The TJ owners will feel like fools for saying he's better than CJ.

I don't think he would improve on his numbers with or without Henry/Johnson. He had a really good year that was overshadowed by two receivers that had career years in TO (at least top 2) and Moss...and when those two have career it is something special...but i still think it will be hard for him to improve on 112 receptions and 12 TDs...he has an outside chance of improving on the yardage.

No. CJ makes Housh. Not the other way around. Take away CJ and Housh would struggle to match his current numbers.

Housh was targeted 169 times last year and CJ 160. Without CJ I don't see the amount of passes throw to Housh increasing substantially and as mentioned he will be the focus of the defense. I think he would still be a top 15 receiver but the numbers won't match last years.

I agree with this. It's almost like saying Wes Welker's numbers would go up if Randy Moss signed with another team.

Well, I think it would be really hard to predict TJ's numbers going up with or without Chad in town. That's a damn good season and hard to improve upon. Only thing I saw last season was a slight drop in TJ's numbers when Henry came back from suspension.

With that said, I'm not sure you can just flat out say TJ's numbers would drop off huge without Chad around. Many people used to say the same about Reggie Wayne and look how he did as the #1. Not sure there is THAT big of a talent difference between Wayne and TJ.

As for the Welker/Moss reference, I somewhat agree it would be crazy to expect Welker's numbers to go up without Moss, but I'm not so sure it would hurt his numbers either. He is a different type of receiver and one of the most difficult guys in the league to cover. NE and Brady will find a way to get him the ball even with a nobody next to him at WR.

Housh is FOOLS GOLD. The question is, are you a fool? :lmao:
Care to explain?
I think the point here, which I made earlier in my own post is that TJ would get covered by the teams #1 corner and possibly double teamed, neither of which he has proven he can handle because he hasn't been asked to have that responsibility because other teams feel and know that CJ is the best WR on that team.

I can somewhat seem how this argument could be made, but there are lots of examples of guys who step into the #1 role and do just fine. I used Reggie Wayne as an example but there are many more. Heck, TO for that matter benefitted from Jerry Rice and then blew up on his own. Again, not saying TJ = TO, but you get the point I hope. There are also lots of WR's who have floundered when given the chance to be a #1. I just don't see TJ as that guy. I am a very biased FOOL who has owned TJ in route to my last two titles though :penalty: TJ's finish the past 4 seasons in my league were 5th, 8th, 13th and 30th. Pretty good for FOOL's GOLD if you ask me.

All things considered, T.J. is already better than Chad as an all-around receiver.

Subtract the "I want the ball too" from Chad, and the production for T.J. increases.

With Henry released, a Bengals team without Ocho Cinco would lack an entire downfield dimension that would impair EVERYONE's numbers from Palmer to Housh on down.

The Bengals also (finally) have an intriguing fantasy option at TE this year, too...which will impact Housh more than Ocho IMHO.

Good point. All things considered at this point, however, is that Carson Palmer should be the one screaming for a trade!I'm not kidding. What a mess in Cincinnati...

So if CJ stays you expect Utech to eat into Houshy's production more than CJ?
