Todd Heap + Cam Cameron = ? (1 Viewer)

Just taking a look at TEs, and I had forgotten Cam Cameron had gone to Baltimore as the OC. Does anyone know if he plans on using the TE as much as he did in SD? Obviously Heap is not the athletic talent Gates is, but when healthy he is still among the best in the league.

Not sure what the TE stats looked like in Miami, but they didn't have a TE of Heap's caliber, and that whole team was basically a mess.

Any Baltimore homers care to chime in on how the O is looking thus far in practice and if Heap looks to have a bigger role?

When healthy Heap has always been utilized alot and done quite well. I don't foresee a dramatic change in stats.

The overall O will change and Cam might have him do this while his previous coach had him do that but, stats-wise I don't imagine a big change

Was just digging through my baltimoresun.com RSS feed, and saw this from the other day:

The biggest injury news of this morning's practice didn't involve who watched from the sidelines, but who was confined to the sidelines.Tight end Todd Heap did not take part in the latter half of practice due to a right calf injury. Heap, who had his calf wrapped, walked off the field with just a few minutes left in practice.Due to Heap's limited status, Adam Bergen took most of the reps at tight end with the first offense. The 6-foot-4, 267-pound Bergen, who was waived by the Arizona Cardinals this past offseason, seems to have leapfrogged Lee Vickers, who played in eight games and started two last season for the Ravens.
So might all be a moot point if Heap can't stay healthy .....

Someone(can't recall) liked Bergen alot years ago so I paid extra attention to him. I don't think he's very good. What happenned to the Ravens terrific depth at TE? I guess to be fair, Leonard Pope seems like he'd be a beast in the red zone yet they don't use that extremely well either. Maybe Bergen isn't so bad

As a 2007 Heap owner, I have been pretty down on him. I had him pegged coming into 2008 as an "gets injured a lot" guy. Turns out that's not the case. He's really only been injured three times...of course the downside to this is that each injury has taken him out for huge stretches. That said, if Cameron does decide to use him a la Gates, my fear would be that he'd get injured and would be gone for half the year. So, I'm of the opinion that he's an impossible guy to predict performance for. Maybe he's 900/9, maybe he's 300/3. I'll stay away.

Heap is probably my favorite value at any position this year. If he can stay healthy he'll be a top-5 TE no question. With Cam on board I think top-3 is very realistic.

Everyone mentions Gates, but if you look at Miami last year their starting TE(Peelle and Martin split the job) caught 63 passes for 531 yards and 4 TD's. Keep in mind that Heap is 10 times the talent either of those guys are and Baltimore for all their woes is still a much better offense than what Miami was last year.

As for the Heap is no Gates argument, Gates is a better athlete(though Heap is more athletic than all but a handful of guys) but I'd argue Heap has better hands and is better in traffic.

Heap's 06' seems like his floor if he's healthy. 900 yards and 8 TD's seems very possible to me. Outstanding value that you can get in the 8th round of drafts.

This guy drives me nuts. Some people just can't take the pounding, and Heap may be one of them.
